Today we visit a super cool spot where the Chillicothe, Mendota, and Barstow sub all meet. There's lots of intermodal traffic, because both the Chillicothe and Mendota feed directly into Chicago.

In Missouri we Pronounce the City of Chillicothe, MO as “Chill Aah Caw Thee”. Never heard this Pronunciation before. Thanks for the video. 👍

Nice Video, about the Barstow Sub, all long distance trains heading North end up in the Twin Cities as there is no connection for them to head east down the Aurora at Savanna in case you were curious

2748 is kinda a shame. It was laid up about 2 years ago during an intermediate fleet reduction, and a lot of our non-PTC geeps were laid up. We pulled it out of the weeds at GI yard this past June, intending to clean it up and display it for railroad days. Unfortunately in its 2 years sitting in GI yard, it must have taken a very hard joint, because it's rear draft gear pocket is blown out, so we had to quick scramble to find another low horse non-PTC unit that we could use that wouldnt hit the no move report. Its number boards disappeared when it was sitting in GI, and unfortunately are probably in the collection of some foamer. Number boards and horns have a strong tendency to go missing on units that are stored there.

CSX also has the AC60CW, I caught one on a trip one time. It has a rough idle, the screws were falling out of the ceiling.

none since 2016 or 2017.... they were derated and sold. The 3 they have were prototypes and only had 4400hp prime movers but cw60ac bodies.

That first location is great! You mentioned another track on the far side. Is there a spot to set up over there so you can cover all 3 lines?
@Southern_Plains_Railfan
@Southern_Plains_Railfan Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is Peck Park on the other side of the bridge that lets you see the Barstow sub. (The 3rd line) The only problem is that it’s an afternoon-only spot, and it’s also very hard to tell when EB trains are coming on the transcon, since it’s a no horn zone. They tend to sneak up on ya. Also your sight lines are reduced quite a bit on the N-S tracks.

Nice video! I see a bunch of intermodals where I am from because they are coming from Long Beach/Los Angeles and then I see some coming from the east (Tucson) here on the Yuma Sub. Also, the trains here are very long -- and usually always have mid DPUs. Was that guy at 4:17 talking to you? Have you seen any Southern Pacific auto-racks? I see AC4400s all the time on the Yuma Sub, in-fact, they are probably the most common locomotives on my line. Keep up the great work!!
@Southern_Plains_Railfan
@Southern_Plains_Railfan Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That’s cool that you have all those intermodals where you live. If I’m not mistaken, some of them come all the way from Chicago. I think that guy was talking to me, but I didn’t even see him until I rewatched the footage. Yes, SP autoracks are a relatively common sight for me. Will do! I’ve got no plans to stop!

Glad to see Warbonnets are still around and kicking in 2022. Really wish BNSF had kept more of the pre-merger paint schemes preserved in their roster.

Hope 2748 can end up in preservation some how, with how impressive it’s history is. How did you not know that UP isn’t the only RR to use AC60CWs?? Because CSX also used them. The AC60CWs were basically made during a time where GE and EMD were experimenting with higher horsepower units. EMD had the SD90MAC and GE’s said AC60CWs. Both models weren’t successful for multiple reasons.

Me too, 2748 sure has quite the story! Well, I’d never really seen them until that trip, and I don’t railfan UP or CSX tracks.

@@Southern_Plains_RailfanI kind of thought that, but the windshield looks like a triclops, and I don't think there are any BN triclops SD60s still on BNSF. I think they all got repainted. Might be wrong though.
