This video contains material included under Fair Use. In this case for criticism and educational purposes.
The now quite famous KZfaq video of Trevor Jacob’s plane crash has raised questions with many in the YT community and beyond. In this video I aim to look at some of the anomalies that have not made ‘the front page’ so to speak in the hope that others will fill in the detail with more expert knowledge.
Here are the main points I found on watching the full video. Most are covered by others. This video will, I hope raise more questions have it answers.
Points
1 Crass opening now removed at, it is believed, request of sponsors and possibly family of deceased.
2 Always wears a parachute - except when he doesn’t.
3 Fuel selector valve - doesn’t appear to be connected to wing tank.
4 Engine stops he panics - is this the response of a highly trained and skilled pilot?
5 No attempt made to solve the problem and restart engine.
6 Strange use of controls - should he not be getting the nose down?
7 Exits aircraft 15 - 20 seconds after engine stop.
8 In spite of panic and fearing for his life he remembers his GoPro.
9 While in free fall he remembers to video his plane as he falls away.
10 After free-falling for some time he videos his plane some distance below.
In free-fall he is falling at approx 176ft/s. If he is in free-fall for 20s (as seen in the video) he will have lost approximately 3000ft. His plane is seen happily gliding away at, according to real pilots, about 1000ft/m decent. Accounts from others in unrelated videos etc state it is almost impossible for a plane to catch it’s jumpers.
11 He appears to have a fire extinguisher attached to each leg.
12 What’s under his jacket?
13 Why were there so many Gopro’s in/on the plane?
14 If he’s so safety minded why wasn’t he carrying hand-held radio/satnav etc?
15 What happened to his paraglider and snowboard?
16 There are claims he had the wreckage removed to an undisclosed location before the FAA could inspect the crash site. Why? This is now being addressed by others suggesting that the removal of the wreckage may have been at the hands of the FAA. The explanations given are quite logical.
17 Why no video from the forward facing GoPro during or after the engine stoppage?
18 His choice of parachute has been questioned.
19 His wounds appear to have healed rather quickly…
20 Was the plane airworthy or not? Accounts are not consistent on this.

OK, I have to say, I lost an engine in my aircraft. I realized I had lost all engine power. I made no effort to restart the engine. I to, exited my aircraft within 15 seconds. However I did not have extinguishers attached to my legs. I did not have a selfie stick to take with me. I did however make a very brief radio call. In mitigation; My engine out occurred at approx. 200ft over the runway... I flew the aircraft to the ground and used the fence at the end of the runway to dissipate energy, broke through the fence and impacted the road, carried over the road into another fence. ... yes and still managed to exit the aircraft within 15 seconds after the loss of power! And I have NEVER worn a parachute! I had 4.1 hours on type and 108 total hours in microlights (light sport)! I thank my instructors for their excellent training!

Also, 2 pilots demonstrated by gliding their own similar airplanes that he could have glided to 2 different airports. One with almost 3 miles to spare, and another with 2 miles to spare. On top of that there were over dozen sandbars on the riverbed below that he could have landed. He easily could have landed that plane on all of them. He's one sick individual. There are several state and federal laws he violated that are felonies. The FAA can revoke his license which I'm sure they will but otherwise the FAA have no teeth. The justice department, National Park Service, and California law enforcement divisions can charge him under 11 different statues. I hope they do. He could have easily killed someone on the ground or started a forest fire that could kill dozens of folks as previous wildfires have already done this past year. That fact that he had 2 clearly visible fire extinguishers strapped to his calves under his pants are proof of his planned misdeed.

There are also several dirt roads below him. They look like they could be creeks but if you look on a map, they are actually roads. Lots of safe places to land in that area... spoilt for choice in fact! That aircraft can fly as slow as about 35 knotts. The list just keeps growing. Strange too, that an experienced skydiver and pilot would be terrified while in an aircraft that's at 9,000ft, fully controllable and while wearing a parachute, something no other pilot would have. His first option would be to try restart the engine, The second would be to choose a place to land... preferably an airport but really not necessary as there are plenty of locations in the area where he was. And finally, should a wing drop off (why the hell would it but lets just imagine) he has a skydiving parachute AND a reserve. Yet he was terrified? Yeah, right!

I just suddenly realized that the water he's drinking is in someone's backyard because you can just barely see the slant of the house's roof over his right shoulder! Holy shit, I never saw that before! I was really hoping he'd get sick from drinking out of a stagnant pond but that's probably a chlorinated water feature at someone's house.

I doubt the story about his dog is even true tbh, hes a perpetual liar. I had come across the guys channel a while back, as I often watch videos from Travis Pastrana doing stunts etc. And this guy appeared on one of them, he was also featured on a documentary about injuries of stunts going wrong and what not. And as I was watching some of the videos on his channel, I instinctively noted this guy as a liar, a drama queen and a bit of a narcissist. Over exaggerating his stories He spends 30-60 minutes telling stories that can be said in less than 5 minutes, often fake crying and pittying himself along the way. Even though its extremely apparent that he's the one who gets himself into these situations in the first place

The funniest thing I found about all this was that the plane he was flying was a taildragger, a landing gear design that is perfect for rough-field landings, the sort of landing gear used by all bush planes. A tricycle landing gear, (one that has 3 wheels fairly close together with one leading wheel,) has some difficulty in rough field landing. But a taildragger with about a 40 mph stall speed is the perfect plane for a safe landing in this emergency. In the hands of even a modestly experienced pilot they probably wouldn't even consider it much of an emergency.

A good overview. It’s not just that there are two or three questionable items, but scores. I can imagine a factual incident in which a few occurrences might seem inexplicable or unlikely, but practically no part of this chain of events seems plausible or rings true. I hate that a classic plane was destroyed, even if it was in poor condition. He’s fortunate there was no fire, despite his leg-mounted extinguishers. The account of him hitting the dog was difficult to hear. Finally I’m convinced by your English accent, because everything sounds more authoritative when spoken by the British. My GPS is British and I tern when it tells me, even if I think it’s wrong.😹

Ridiculous 🙄 He's in absolutely no immediate danger. He has plenty of time to do (whatever). -And he IS a trained pilot. He has been through all this in flight school. I happen to Know! that from personal experience. On the other hand, "if"... this was all planned, it makes perfect sense. My only real question is... how many people were involved 🤔 🇮🇸

Apparently there was footage of the GoPro that was looking forward. It was the one he was holding in his hand next to the yoke of the plane and when he jumped. You can see the short selfie stick underneath the camera when it’s mounted behind him looking forward, bent exactly the same way it was when he was holding it on the way out of the plane. Also the plane shot from above looks a lot like a drone shot, the way the camera is stabilised and panning. It doesn’t look at all like a GoPro clip. Did he also have a filming crew on the ground? The two fire extinguishers that were strapped on his legs would be just as useful in case of a wild fire caused by his plane crashing, as a sneezing to put out the fire on a fireplace. Obviously that’s all speculative but given the guy’s history I can see why so many people are questioning him.

One of many things that doesn’t make sense to me, he has great dash cam videos holding the ashes, giving thumbs up. When engine stops the only inside camera view is a close up of his mid body, no dash cam, just a jacket view. Is this from the dash cam or the selfie stick cam which was mounted behind him early in the flight. Where is the rest of the video? Why didn’t he use the dash cam to record panic? There's so much more in this than I've seen in the other videos. So much that it's hard to know where to start and I already had about 20 points that didn't add up. Watch him pretending to drink water from the creek. No water goes into his mouth at all, he just touches the water with his lips... several times. Just as striking for me was the part you pointed out where his head wounds have miraculously disappeared. Also, you're the first commenter I've seen that's questioned where the shot from above the aircraft came from. While he was a few thousand feet below it and dropping at about 120mph, someone was filming the plane from a few hundred feet above it. My guess is he had a drone with him (or one of his helpers did - he didn't do this alone). I hope they throw the book at him and get those who worked with him on this.

Here are the results of my investigation. He clearly had a panic attack when the engine packed up and simply jumped for his life. Cannot be convicted for being scared. Like a good responsible citizen he took it upon himself at great expense to clean up his own mess and remains mortified to this day that the planned restoration project on this little classic aircraft could not take place by his engineer friends up in mammoth who he posted the Tech logs too before the crash. I know some of you suspect that this was a STUNT for youtube hits 1,504,413 views to date. Having reviewed the evidence I can conclude it is unlikely to end in a prosecution unless he confesses to it, and he really would be an idiot to confess to that. At worst he will be told off for disposing of the wreck and losing the tech logs.
