This is worthy of it being submitted for an A+ paper at the best universities. I admire the courage and sincerely it takes to tackle such complex issues. Very well done. Fr. Casey and Fr. Pat: you are the personification of what you teach, unlike the angry, dismissive, rude, condescending and judgmental theists, including some theologians online, which is very unfortunate. I hope your channels grow to millions of subscribers. Thank you. Huh... I'm still not sure why I did leave the protestant church I was attending, but the single thought about coming back to the Catholic Church was enough for the Holy Spirit. Was it because I felt lonely there? Odd, cause they were very open, friendly... but I'm 30+ years old single, introverted guy and most of their demographic containted of elders, teenagers and young couples. I've found (or rather, God introduced us) literally one girl to connect with and it still failed (much to my issues with self love). Or maybe was it because my pastor dissapointed me many times? He never had time, and not only for me. He never did what he said he would do. And on our final meeting, where I spoke about why I leave, he showed some of the most basic, stereotypical views about the Catholic Church I've ever heard, claiming he had studied it. And once again, he proposed to give me some time to study the Bible with me on the topic, which I immediately knew he wasn't going to do - because he would not have time. God closed so many doors for me in that place, through my introversion, sure, but also using the pastor. Don't get me wrong - he was an amazing teacher, a man of the Bible. But... only Bible, it seems. Like many other protestants. Why am I writing any of this? Cause I wonder if I left simply because... of people. And yet, in the Catholic Church, I'm still rather solitary, but I've never felt closer and more united with other believers, with the Body of Christ. Christ truly does unites us in the Eucharist. That is something worth living and dying for.

This is a deep truth and you articulated it very well. When we see people who disagree with us as dehumanized, "the enemy", we can't hear them and they can't hear us. Focusing on our common humanity is the only way to reach across an ideological divide.

There is no such ideological divide. It is yes or no, good or evil. We have been lead to a point nowadays where we are pushed to understand all, agree with all, tolerate all. No one dehumanizes the poor people who suffered the attacks, here or there, no matter what they think what truly happened, but the ones who lied to those who claim for truth and justice and, far from giving honest response, they acuse those of being "conspiranoic".

Hi Fr. Appreciate the inclusion of the latin mass in the list of strong opinions. I really like the TLM itself but really struggle with the attitudes of many commentators on both sides when discussing it. I rarely go to the TLM because while most of the congregation are wonderful people, it can at times become too defining of a stance to take. I’m soo happy this is being discussed, critical thinking and taking a step back is very important. It allows us to take a moment and use kindness in response to opposition or in every day life. But also seeking truth is always best, even if it hurts. As an french Canadian indigenous women, I was raised not to blame god, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for the pain my family went through. Because, it was the choice of the individuals who hurt or those who choose to cover up the stories. And, not God’s. But, if we were to see everyone within our faith or even Christianity as “bad” only robs us from healing, learning and supporting one another. As my Pépé said, “one or two rotten apples on a tree doesn’t mean the whole tree is rotten. And, simply that the tree needs to be nurtured. “ This can be said for every single topic, perspectives, opinions….. finding a middle ground is key. I'm curious on what one is to do when the conspiracy is actually being conducted by the trusted sources vs the fringe people. The origins of COVID seems to be a case of this. We can't be experts at everything, and so yeah, we have to trust people around us and connect with them, but in this instance, trust was actually broken by the conventional experts, and the conflict of interest in what these guys were claiming about COVID being from a wet farm was public information. So even if a conspiracy theorist might be wrong, his wrong conclusions might be accompanied by a semi-necessary skepticism about conventional takes on events. What you would have to do then is to make apparent the motivating causes. Are we supposed to trust these sources or not? Are they trust worthy? And then, ask them the same of the alternative sources.

Father, with all due respect, but there is no trick needed to convert anyone. The truth is enough. We ask God to know the truth, and the Truth reveals itself (or Himself). I would love to see more of our Catholic priests open their minds and hearts to realize that evil operates and conspires, and that the devil lies and deceives. The ad hominen of conspiracy theorist feels more like a compliment these days. I'd rather be called one than be a coincidence theorist. Do I have to theorize motives or what is, when there is enough evidence to show what is not? Do I need to know and should I choose to believe, or am I comfortable realizing there is a difference between believing and knowing? Do I have to believe so-called experts and authorities? Let me say it: there are lots of catholics out there that ought to be convicted of transgressions against the first commandment, upon bowing before the altar of purported science, and delegating their discernment to third parties. Yes. We as christian catholics do not put our faith in men, but in God. Especially over the last 3 years we have been urged to act against basic teachings of the faith, and that includes our Holy Father, and most all bishops and priests who did not stand up for the souls of their flock but chose to refuse to feed them, under the guise of blind obedience to church hierarchy, which in turn was looking to please Ceasar and minimize liability before the princes of men. But all that without taking into account the primary mission of the Church is not saving bodies, but souls. When obedience is sinful, then disobeying becomes an obligation. Saint John of the Cross was not afraid of the mission the Lord Jesus Christ gave him. Some might call Our Lady of Good Success and Fatima a lot of conspiracies being theorized. Freemasonry? NeoMarxism? Social media algorithms, censoring and persecution? What about Edward Bernays? Was he not conspiring against public interests over a century ago? Our Lady of Good Success, pray for us.

This video was rather long-winded. The underlining theme was valuable, the importance of listening to others and keeping an open mind to opposing viewpoints. Still, Fr. Casey didn't need 15 minutes to argue the importance of listening. I also thought the 9/11 events were an odd choice to make his listening argument, as this is a very polarizing and highly emotional event in US history. I think he could have found a better analogy for this video, one less controversial. The 9/11 events and the handling of this before and after the event itself is far more complicated than what is described in the 15-minute video--- which makes 9/11 a very odd choice for a video on listening.

Words are used for the purpose of legitimate debate, but can also be used by persons with agendas to manipulate and marginalize those whom they disagree with. The derogatory term "Conspiracy Theorist" is one of those that is used by so many today to silence discussion and debate rather than arrive truth. I, for example do not agree with those in our country who put forth the notion that the U.S is covering up the Crash of a Spaceship in Roswell NM that supposedly had dead little green men with beady eyes. I think that such a possibility is "not possible", but I would not cast aspersions at those who believe such, and mock them on my KZfaq channel by calling them "Conspiracy Theorists". They might actually have some knowledge or experience which leads them to a truth about the existence of little green men that perhaps I have not yet come across. Of course, they might be in error which if such is the case, I should as a Catholic live by the rule of charity and respectfully listen to their point of view, rather than mock them publicly. Having now dealt with need to uphold the dignity of each individual with a viewpoint, it is important to note that the term "Conspiracy Theorist" is used in our current day to insinuate that conspiracies never happen, and peoples, and organizations with nefarious intent could not possibly organize for the purpose of mischief, and evil. The only mischief or evil under such auspices is to be found in the person or persons who perhaps hold a sincere and or just concerns about a perceived evil that has taken place in their community, or country. In my humble estimate, it is much in the way of honor to care enough about any matter be it social, political, economic etc., and to speak your views openly about such matters and face derision, rather than to remain silent. It takes courage. In summary, words have power, and we should search our hearts very carefully to see if we are qualified from the metric of Christ's holy love and charity to use those words, or do we have too much pride and too little love for such a task. May God grant each one of us a spirit of love to see in each person who speaks their peace as our own brother, or sister. May God grant each one of us a charitable tongue, so that even our strongest disagreements will bear the fruit of respect and peace. And may God grant each one of us the grace of holy discernment in all earthly matters, so that we can in a more perfect way call what is good, good, what is evil, evil, and hold our tongues otherwise, except to pray for light and truth to find us when we know not the difference.

I used to call identity as pansexual and was a supporter of almost all parts of the lgbt movement. This video is really compelling because what changed my mind was how the people in that movement acted. I saw the pride parades with kids at them and thought "that's not appropriate" and looked around and no one else cared. When I tried to justify my attraction with my faith I looked up debates between Christians about homosexuality and what convinced me wasn't the Christians who opposed gay "marriage" arguments, it was how the gay Christian implied that if the Bible opposed being gay that he couldn't be Christian. "That doesn't make sense," I thought, "what genuine Christian would value their personal political opinions over God." His character was defined by being gay, and secondly by being Christian. And in my mind that was unjustifiable, and I couldn't associate with people like that.

Another great video, Fr. Casey. (Hopefully that helps you feel better about yourself.😄) Seriously, one of the most effective ways I have found to "help" people change their minds (on ANY issue) is to ask them to validate their belief. Why do they believe what they believe? What is the source of their information? How did they reach that conclusion? If we have to "defend" our position or opinion, it forces us to take a serious look at what we believe--and why. Instead of questioning their belief, I am merely asking them to convince me it's true or valid. Surprisingly, they often see the error (if there is one) when they can see it themselves. One of the hardest things for humans to do is admit they are wrong. After all, what makes ME think I am always right?

This segment was a very good example of personal biases. I was brought up by my parents to believe in certain things. Hopefully they were correct. But as we grow, we must think hard about our beliefs. When I get to the point of confusion, I go to my room and face my wall where I have a picture taken by Barrie M. Schwortz showing the face of Jesus from his own film taken about 1978-79 when he was the lead photographer for the STRUP team. I look deeply into our Lord's face, where I can see his teeth through his lips because the Holy Shroud picture is an x-ray view of the Face of Our Lord. That is when I pray the Act of Contrition every morning after I wake up. And then several times afterwords. Only prayers to our Lord or to Our Lady can save us. I'm a constant sinner. I have a habit that is not easy to quit. So, I must ask Our Lord constantly for forgiveness, to the point where I'm afraid to go to confession for fear that my priest won't obsolve me for my behavior. I want to go, but I'm afraid I'll be denied absoltion because my priest heavily admonished me. But this video is true. We must break our biases and "come clean" with ourselves for our God.

Teach them to be humble meek and holy as you are, and not to rely on their own selves but on the Holy Spirit for all that they need. As harsh of a truth as this is to swallow, it's a nearly absolute fact that humans barely care about basic facts as much as they do feelings and acceptance. This is regardless of how "undeniable" the fact is. This is why spamming facts alone in either religious or political debates will never be enough. In fact, unless the person in question is extremely wise and well trained in logic, the person you try to convince won't care about "just facts." Baha! Sneaking in mention of the Latin Mass, lol. I agree, this has been on my mind a lot lately. Why is there so much vitriol in the argument over Latin Mass vs Novus Ordo? No one used to care so much about this issue. How did so many lay people suddenly care so much about liturgical theology? Usually it's a niche issue for theologians. The issue for people isn't really the liturgy. People are really just trying to express their frustration with the changes they perceive in the Church and in the world. "Going back" feels more comfortable to them, and the community around them supports the same thinking. --- But the real issue is not about the liturgy itself, even if people say it is. Getting to the heart of the real issue can perhaps help us all learn to listen to each other better. Maybe the liturgical debates can continue, just with less vitriol?

Father, The Thursday before 9/11, I was hit by a car while on my bicycle on my way to a college class. The lady who hit me either didn't see me in the crosswalk or thought I was finished crossing the street. I only ended up with a sprained ankle. She thankfully gave me and my mangled bike a ride to class. On my way back, it took me at least an hour to walk back home (normally a 20-30 minute walk). I felt like I was on the Via Dolorosa. What I had to ensure was nothing compared to what happened 5 days later. I remember later that evening how clear the sky was. The stars were brighter than usual. That combined with the moonless night made all the more surreal.

Reminds me of a young right wing skinhead I met years ago, and I started telling him "ok, I have African ancestry, I disagree with your views, but we can share a beer and discuss, is it ok with you?", he agreed, and... I mostly listened, didn't express judgement or anything. Just tried to understand what left him there. As a result, he invited me to have lunch at his house, and started to tell me about his life, which was truly awful. Ended up he was a broken man who felt kinship with people who allowed him to put out all his inner rage out. And finally, some years later, I see him dressed "normal", hanging out with black and arabic people and hails me to thank me , because seeing someone like me taking him as he is, and being listening, empathetic and not immediately throwing a tantrum at him, is what started make him think again about his worldview. This is why I always try not to get all emotional when people believe horrible things (provided, it's in an situation where they're not actively doing harm of course, like a pub discussion or something like that), and try to get in their shoes a moment and start from there. It does wonders. Provided , it doesn't ALWAYS work, but i believe it's worth a try.

When many are asking the important questions people are too afraid to ask Now some are just like bad series like flat-earthers like yeah the Earth is round. But the amount of times I have seen people make fun of just the flat-earthers no matter how wrong they are is disturbing Some theories have way to it and are more practical than the actual "fact" itself Anyways I know that's not the point of the video but I thought I should just mention that And this is good advice in a good video to bring Catholics home❤

@@nightyew2160 Yes, this was a big reason for V II so that people could understand the Mass in their language. The Holy Spirit also gave the apostles the gift of tongues so that each person can understand in their own language. Also, the priest (vicar of Christ) faces the people in the NO which is more intimate which is what the last supper was where Jesus faced and spoke to the Apostles (he didn't turn his back to them and start praying to God the Father).

Speaking of listening and influencing other people's minds. I am still hoping that Fr. Casey comes back to creating videos that support Christianity and help to further the works of Jesus Christ. I'd like to see Fr. Casey create some videos that help strengthen us in our Christian Apologetics as we work to defend our beliefs. I watch William Lane Craig quite a bit on KZfaq for Christian arguments, but I'm hoping Fr. Casey can share some of his arguments for why he believes in God and his son Jesus Christ. The more apologetical arguments we have in our back pocket, the better we become at influencing others--- as Fr. Casey described in this video.

At 13:32 - “So, if we want to change someone’s mind, if we want to share the truth that we’ve found, something that all Christians should want to do, the first and most important thing that we must do is form a relationship…is to show the person in front of us that we care about the same things they care about.” That is a very noble intention. But if you want to accomplish that, wouldn’t it be necessary to consider this: Before you concern yourself with facts, evidence, arguments, bias, the influence of others, conspiracy theories and all the other stuff that comes with debates and discussions about anything, you need to provide clear, coherent definitions of the terms you are discussing. Further, you accomplish that by spelling out the criteria for determining whether or not anything you assert in your definition is true or knowable. That would be a good starting point if you want to try to convince someone (or change someone’s mind about something) by gaining their trust and showing them that you are on their "team".

I confess, Father, when I received this, I almost chose not to watch. Our family moved from where we grew up 5 hours away. My kids started school the day that 9/11 happened. I only wanted to move back North to be near our parents again. That was not God's plan. We got more involved in our Church, my ex-husband decided 8 years later that I needed to become a nun and my kids agreed, so I became a consecrated lay woman, I met a lot of really good friends by doing that as my kids became adults, and even though after my Master's Degree happened I got in a really bad car accident I still have gotten to grow spiritually, emotionally, physically. Listening to this, I agree that sometimes it's bias that makes us not change our minds and hearts. I counseled with a really good priest about dating and the dangers of dating and marriage as well as learning more about myself and what I hope to achieve in a marital life if God provides me with a husband. What I learned is that my relationship with God is always going to be the most important relationship before any other relationship, and if I don't love myself and God first I can't love anyone else or let them love me. Hopefully God will provide me with a husband. If it doesn't happen, I will be able to say that I have had some really good friends. Thank you for this post and this statement. I appreciate, very much, Father Casey.

What, exactly, do Taylor Swift, Pumpkin spice, Boston sports teams and Marvel comics have to do with the Latin Mass? It seems to me that you wedged it right in the middle of the list in order to create your own little nuclear reactor in which the Latin Mass constituted the core with the radioactive nuclear rods and all of the other items on your list, including Taylor Swift, served as the water to surround the core at all times when the reactor core was operational. After that, you go back to work on your point that many of our opinions on various things are influenced by conditioning and emotion and other factors not related to any kind of logic or logical discussion on one thing or another. This position, plus your mentioning of conspiracy theorists and annoying sportscasters, constitute a containment building and cooling towers, respectively, around the one topic most likely to be of interest to "Church People." Taylor Swift has been so popular in the recent past that she all but inadvertently caused a virtual meltdown of ticketmaster, (which, some have asserted, was at least largely their own fault in the first place). Consequently, and logically, if there are a lot of people who like Taylor Swift, then there are not quite enough people who dislike her to pose any significant threat at the box office. Consequently, there are a lot of people who prefer the Traditional Latin Mass and attend it regularly. Most people are at least remotely aware of the power of human emotion and how it influences decisions big and small in life. Were this not true, then people would not say things all the time such as: "Don't mention this to the boss, or he'll be really upset", or, "Don't let Mom see the mess you made all over the kitchen when she comes home from work; You have 20 minutes to clean up everything", or, "Dad just doesn't want to talk about what happened to him during the war, when he was in the infantry." When you say that there are a lot of people who DON'T like "pumpkin spice ", you also know that that it won't be discontinued anytime soon for those who do want it. The same thing applies to the other items on your list. To gloss over the Latin Mass by burying it in a list of non related items and then state that there are people who don't like these things before moving back to your original point, you conveniently refrain from mentioning the obvious reality that there are those who DO like these things, which includes the Traditional Latin Mass, and thus do an end run around a potentially nasty controversy. It seems that you have learned your lesson from the abortion episode. On the other hand, you all but got away with murder on the "Jesus had a Great Body", episode. I, for one, did not appreciate the latter, to say the least. Among many other things, for that matter, I know that many people do not approve of such things as Father Jerry making the final Blessing at Mass with a guitar, yet Church officials say that this sort of thing is perfectly OK while devotion to the Traditional Latin Mass is suspect, at the most generous. For myself, the most logical conclusion in the interests of ALL the Faithful is to say: "To each, his/her own", and "Live and let live."

I am not sure what you mean about veneration of the saints being in the Bible. At the time the Bible was written, most Christian saints weren't even born yet much less dead for the Church to venerate. I have heard people site Revelation where the elders are pictured offering the prayers of the saints to God. Another example I can think of that could foreshadow veneration of the saints was when during the Transfiguration Peter suggested erecting three booths, one each for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. Since Moses and Elijah are kind of equivalent to saints of the Jewish people, it suggested a certain openness to venerating dead religious heroes even though the vision ended before any actual venerating could get started.
