Whenever Atreus is in immediate danger Kratos stops holding back, he did it against Magni & Modi, instantly executing Magni with minimal effort when Atreus was in trouble. 6:31 he could easily level this entire building with one punch, "building focus" refers to him pulling his punches and keeping composure, despite being as strong as he is. He is stronger than ever, he chooses not to show it because he doesn't want conflict, he wasn't going to kill Magni until Atreus put himself in danger, he even met Modi walk away.

I think he appears weaker because holding back is harder than letting it all out. His strength is driven by his rage. He’s incredibly strong at base but when he’s mad it’s ridiculous. He’s lived his life fueled by his emotions and now trying to suppress all that takes a physical toll on him.
@brandenmarcum430
@brandenmarcum430 10 ай бұрын
Exactly. Being too stressed can make you sick, weaken your immune system and your brain. That in turn creates a domino effect that can take a physical toll on your muscles. Kratos suppressing himself, trying to live the life of a man, brings him closer to the physiology of a human. The more he lets his rage loose, let’s his true self loose, the closer to his younger self he becomes.

imagine if Kratos didn't hold back his emotions. on his Journey Kratos must have hit, yelled at and scolded Atreus. this is something Kratos is afraid of, because he doesn't want to hurt Atreus, and doesn't want Atreus to become the monster like was once before. Kratos is very grateful to have Atreus and Laufey/Faye, because they make Kratos more human.

We only see him slipping up a couple times in the new games. The most obvious show of strength is his first fight with Baulder. Baulder mentions someone hiding inside the house and Kratos proceeds to hit Baulder so hard that the landscape begins to crumble. Kratos only looks around after the fight and realized he had to reign it in so he doesn't destroy the world he want Atreus to grow up in.

I believe Cory Balrog said that Kratos was holding back throughout both games. That if he went all out like in previous games, he'd just steamroll everyone and the game wouldn't be fun to play and because he doesn't want to destroy everything. It's one of the many signs that he's matured as a man and a deity. But he's much stronger than he was in the previous games, Godly items or no.

This is consistent as Kratos, himself, wrote in his journals that Thor was the strongest foe he ever faced in their first fight and later when he defeats Thor Thor wasn't "playing games" anymore. I think Kratos' fights with Thor show how helping clear his inner turmoil helped improve his strength. In his first fight at the start of Ragnarok he pretty clearly loses the fight, and he is originally destined to lose his second fight with Thor. Clearing his inner turmoil and fighting with a clear mind allowed him to beat Thor (yes they technically called off the fight but he was clearly winning) and then takes on Odin who is even stronger than Thor.

This actually makes sense! Atreus was sick because he was unaware of his true nature as a god being a god thinking he’s a human made him sick and weak. Kratos internally fighting rage and bloodlust is combating with his exact nature as a god that his power derives from. Which is why the devs of the game say Kratos is actually stronger being that gods get stronger the older they get but Kratos battling with himself within is making him seem weaker. I also agree with the analogy of him holding back as well more so in god of war 2018 because it was more so about training Atreus if Kratos went all out Atreus wouldn’t get the training he needs. But there were little key things in ragnarok that i noticed! Like in 2018 GOW he flipped Tyr’s temple! Then In ragnarok i was like why does it seem like it takes so much effort to lift certain things or rip down a wooden fence with the blades.

I really love how this shows the evolution of how Karatos copes with grief. In the older games, he is angered and violent. In the newer games, he has grown to have more restraint and processes his feelings of loss verbally. I think the concept of "grief fatigue" can describe his experience. And he's struggling, but he's also much more mature and human now. He's a good role model. It makes you want to know how his wife taught him all that in the short time they were able to be happy together.

He never grew tired in the past, because his rage kept driving him forward. He’s older and wiser now, he knows when and where he needs to battle or turn away, how to hold back to avoid senseless killing. He’s not as brutal as he used to be, he was far worse in past games. Good video. I think the old man story that he starts telling to Atreus is supposed to illustrate his mental fatigue and his being worn down by all this conflict and violence, hence his calling for death. After the final fight the ending of that story is changed as Kratos has found new purpose. He seems weaker merely because of his restraint and like you said he's haunted by his past atrocities. He isn't any physically weaker but throughout 2018 and most of Ragnarok he is 'mentally tired'. Like you said.

Kratos tapped into a different power other than rage, it's the love for his son Atreus and the friends he made along the way. Faye knew he can change for the better and towards the end he told Atreus that he should open his heart which was the opposite of what he said in the first game. When he saw the Mural at the end of the game, Kratos was shocked that the people recognized him for the good he did rather than being known as a destructive monster. People can change no matter the tainted past they previously lived.

The thing about wall punching is, if someone does not get it yet, is Kratos focusing on holding back your emotions, power, everything. Because when you're powerful, a wall like that won't do much but what did the wall even do to you for it to receive your punch? My theory is that he was passed the mantle of God of War when Ares was killed. So perhaps as long as he is in enraged in combat and not holding back, hence fufilling his moniker, he will continue to be at maximum strength. But, during times of peace or possessing an inner calm, he gets weaker since he is "cutting himself off" from the depths of his strength. I know Kratos is naturally strong being a demi-god and all even before becoming God of War, but perhaps obtaining the mantle pushed him further over the strength and power scale and maybe he's reverting back to his regular demi-god strength he always had, minus the "God of War" power boost, Plus, dude is just plain ol' getting old

I think that Kratos's strength is situational. Normally, he's superhuman is his strength, but when needed, his strength can ramp up to superman levels (flipping a temple). THAT is one of his inherent god powers.

Doubt age is a factor but my honest opinion After he was tricked into killing his family it traumatized him he got his revenge but it didn't bring his family back But my personal thought is with his son being in danger his side comes out to protect not destroy But when atreus turned into a bear and Kratos not knowing almost killing it but when it turned out to be atreus that's when he I think was having flashbacks He's far from weak he's just tired

Kratos is not getting weaker from age, but rather from the strain of holding back. If anything, Kratos is getting stronger and stronger as he gets older. It's not really something to be concerned about because it's him learning to become more Human again as time goes on while also growing as a god. Ares knew that Kratos is at his strongest when he is angry and Kratos has an extremely nasty temper, a temper that never goes away but with age and experience he's more restrained. it's apparent that the Greek Gods were far worse than the Norse as only Heimdall managed to fully bring out the old Kratos, something many of the other Norse Gods failed to completely do so. While the Greek Gods were both more callous and Kratos far more temperamental, making it extremely easy for Kratos to snap and brutally murder them.

His great strength lies behind his rage, when he fights he tries so hard not to go there which is exhausting in itself. He lost his wife and kids because of his rage and a whole realm paid for it, he doesn’t want to go down that rabbit hole again.

Notice how whenever Kratos gets beaten (best examples with the two Valkyries towards the end of Ragnarok) the game pops "Press for Spartan Rage" prompt and then Kratos just smashes everything? To me that is a game mechanic tied to the lore, whenever Kratos gets pushed into a corner he has the leverage to let his rage take over for a bit, until the danger is gone.

This is so spot on. I know exactly how exhausting it can be to try and restrain oneself. Kratos is doing everything in the last 2 games with weights that can be heavy even for a god. And coincidentally, having these weights are also making him stronger as he climbs metaphorical mountains. Gods speed to anyone he faces without the weights.

I think whenever Atreus is in danger Kratos doesn't hold back and his son being in danger is what triggers him to use his true strength as a god of war too. He wants to do everything he can to keep his son safe from harm no matter what enemies come their way. I find it very admirable that Kratos wants to protect Atreus that way and it seems like Atreus wants to protect his father from getting hurt or in danger in the same way Kratos protects him. The bond between Kratos and Atreus as father and son is pretty much unbreakable and it's the center of both God Of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarok. The stories are amazing! Nice job with the video too!

@dennisdabels9347
@dennisdabels9347 9 ай бұрын
I think that the part with Kratos not wanting to become the monster he once was is solid, but also the trauma he got from it and not accepting it is also part of it. The thing with old man Kratos being stronger is because he isn't driven by rage, what blinded him, like in the old games he got wiser over time and learns that not everything can be solved with violence.
