Athena was not going after her music box. First she saved her oldest daughter. She tried to get the music box AFTER that. And that clip at three minutes, is Ariel holding her daughter Melody. Someone please redo this video and get the facts straight first.

The thing about Athena "living a double life" is ridiculous. The whole thing sadly is. Take into account the fact that if Athena was among the mermaids in Neverland, it was when she was seemingly quite young because those mermaids are depicted as very young, not much older than the children. Children and teenagers can be blunt, misbehaving and misguided, especially in a place absent of most adults (don't even get me started on Peter himself). Let's not forget that mermaids are NOT HUMAN and don't have to have the same ethics as humans, and there is no such thing as a person who is entirely good or entirely evil based on their actions, even in fiction. The mermaids were jealous on top of that and might have been at least half joking. The apparent age of the mermaid rules out the idea of Athena having been taken to Neverland afterwards, but if she left Neverland and went to Atlantica then the time periods are in the wrong order which makes no sense. Peter Pan is set later than The Little Mermaid. Also there's a high chance that while they were practising mermaids in Peter Pan, the creators didn't leave any on-purpose cameos mermaid wise. Not only did they not know they were going to make that movie for decades, but originally Ariel was going to be BLONDE. The reason she got red hair in the end was because of the release of Splash around the same time featuring a blonde mermaid. Ariel's Beginning was released literal decades later too and only at that point had they fully decided to make it that Athena looked so similar to Ariel, as originally she was a barely mentioned let alone shown character. And to top it all off, while it was as obvious as they could manage that the ship crashed, the reason we didn't see Athena getting killed in Ariel's Beginning was because it is a family-friendly Disney movie in which they can't really get away with a lot of onscreen violent death and would have a hard time otherwise showing this mermaid getting literally crushed to death! Sorry to break down this theory, it's just there's too many holes in it.

And the reasons why none of them is Athena are because 1) Athena had green eyes, while the two redheaded mermaids had brown eyes, 2) The tails/fins to the redheaded meraids from Peter Pan had a lighter shade of aqua blue, while Athena had aqua blue (Aqua). Btw was I the only one who heared her say Windy instead of Wendy when she said Wendy's name or did I just imagine it and she did say Wendy's name right? (Sorry for my bad English)

Queen Athena and king Triton were best friends since they were children . When they were adults they fell in love and shared a song( endlessly sky) and when Athena had all of her children she sang endless sky into a lullaby for them. On Athena and Triton anniversary Triton gave her the music box...but the pirate ship came and tho they were only there for the treasure Athena had to stay and help Attina (her oldest daughter) get her fin out of a rock but after that she realised she lost her music box so she looked for it...as soon as she saw it she tried to get it but the pirates threw the hook and Athena had to avoid getting caught so she swam away from the rock King Triton called her name and she looked down but she couldn't go without her music box so she swam back to the rock... unfortunately the pirates lost control of the ship and to get it back in control they tried everything but instead of controlling it they made it speed up and unfortunately Athena couldn't swim in the water so she sacrificed herself in order for her family to be safe (I think)

In one of the sequals of Aladdin, it shows a huge amount of treasure and a boat there to. There is a mermaid plastered on the front of the boat. That mermaid looks very similar to ariel and her mom. That mermaid tries to catch however tries to get the treasure. What if that was captain hook's boat and treasure. He could have plastered ariel's mom there to protect the treasure.

I call BS!!! Airel's mother couldn't be in Neverland, here's the reason, Neverland is a island in the SKY!!!!!! the ocean where Ariel grew up is not in the Sky (the next star to the right and what ever) besides the neverland mermaids look nothing like Ariel mermaids!!! Airel's father didn't hate just pirates, he hated all humans, and how could Airel get her love of human objects from her mother? Her mother died when she was young! Well in the Broadway version of the little mermaid it was told that her mother was killed by Ursula (Lines from the script) Ursula: even made you think that humans murdered your mother! Did you know that Ariel is the granddaughter of Poseidon and Amphitrite? Their son was Triton who was the first half-man half-fish. The same King Triton in the movie. Poseidon also wielded a trident, which King Triton also has.

I have my own Little Mermaid theroy about what happened to Ariel's mom, now it may sound a little crazy so brace yourselves: My idea is, a 3-4 year old Ariel, her older sisters, and her parents were playing with each other at the surface in a little pool with rocks. Ariel was swiming around, trying to keep up with her older sisters when something caught her eyes. Athena asked her little daughter what she was looking at and Ariel pointed to a pirate ship coming their way. The pirates on the ship were looking for mermaids and were coming to get the family. Triton told his wife and daughters to get under water as fast as they could. They listened and hurried under water. Athena counted her daughters to make sure they were all there, but one was missing. It turns out, Ariel had left her favorite doll on a rock at the surface and went to get it back. Once the little mermaid got her doll, she caught another look at the ship and her curious heart began to wonder about how big the ship was and how it worked. She began swiming closer to it when Athena came up and got her daughter away from the ship. Only problem was, not seeing where they were, the two were now cornered by a large rock. The ship was getting closer and closer, then Athena got and idea, she had just enough time to get Ariel away from the ship and to safety. She hugged her little daughter and gave her one last kiss before, gentely, throwing her as far as she could, getting hit by the boat herself. Ariel landed in the water and was caught by Triton. However, he wanted to see where his wife was so he handed Ariel to his oldest daughter Attina, and told her to take her sisters back to the palace, which she did. Now, Athena wasn't killed by the boat but she was badly injured and her body sank to the ocean floor, where the sea witch Ursula was. Athena asked is she would help her but, being as crule and hateful towards the royal family as she was, Ursula didn't help the queen. Instead, she used a magic spell to kill the queen and threw a human's net over her body, to make it seem like humans had killed the queen. The sea witch escaped back to her hideout when the king found his wife's body. He buried her under the sea by his castle, and seeing the net caused him to hate humans for he truely believed it was them. Also, knowing she risked her life to save Ariel, the king became very protective of his youngest daughter.

if you look closely you can see the iconic hook in the hair of the red headed mermaid with her hair tied up that fits the description of both Ariel's and Athena's hair during one of the peter pan scenes. The hair being tied up in her mermaid form is our biggest give away as Athena's hair is tied up both in Neverland and Atlantica just like how Ariel's hair is always down in The Little Mermaid and when it undoes when King Triton changes Ariel back to her mermaid form in Return to the Sea

Athena was probably just scared of the humans and she wanted to save herself

Yes I think that Queen Athena was kidnapped and taken to Never Land. I have watched Ariel's Beginnings a couple of times, and it looked like the dark shape shot toward Athena was actually a net. There was never signs of an explosion after that dark shape shot toward Athena.

In regards to the final theory speculating she could still be alive, albeit trapped somewhere in Neverland, I would love for her to come back & reunite with her family! It also makes me think of if this theory was canon in the Descendants universe. Do you recall in the first Descendants movie where Queen Leah, Aurora's mother & Audrey's grandmother, meets Mal and snaps at her? This was due to her grief over missing Aurora's childhood, which she wrongfully blames Mal for, since she is Maleficent's daughter. While you were explaining the last theory, I recalled when you had earlier speculated that Athena could have had a crueler side to her, and I imagined that same scene, but with (a nicer?) Harry instead of Mal, and Athena instead of Leah. Then again, I'm.. not quite sure how they would have that conversation, given that Athena doesn't have legs, but I suppose they could be near a shoreline of some sort?

The story timelines don't hold up: Peter Pan is set around 1906, so Athena would be a young woman in 1906 in Peter Pan, and then have her daughters. BUT, her daughter Ariel (The Little Mermaid) is set around 1840. This would mean Ariel and Eric's story takes place about sixty years before Athena was in Peter Pan and the mermaid lagoon. I might ruin someone's hopes and dreams for this theory, but it's worth pointing out.

If u want to know which one of the redheaded mermaids from Peter pan is ariel's mother then just consider their voice because ariel's mother and ariel have a similar, sweet and unique voice

In Ariel's Beginning during the pirates and Athena's death scene, Captain Hook might be older, has different crew, and no longer in Neverland after Hook was banished from Neverland in the Peter Pan franchise and Mr. Smee would be already dead in that tragic scene from Ariel's Beginning because he might've died of old age.

I was sure all the sisters had different mothers, one from each of the seven seas. I haven't seen any of the other Little Mermaid films, though.

The only issue I have with this is that Peter Pan is set around WWI and The Little Mermaid is set on the early 1800’s so unless there’s time travel involved this theory is kinda impossible

The most plausible theory is the last one. The Little Mermaid is set in the mid-to-late 19th C while Peter Pan is set in 1900. Athena was kidnapped and taken to Neverland where she remained until at least 1900!!!

Now that I've watch this video, I hope there would be another movie of "The Little Mermaid" and subtitle it to be "the Search for Queen Athena" it could be a third movie or a fourth movie. It's not uncommon for Disney to cut out violence. It would have sparked a much fiercer debate if they had actually shown Queen Athena getting hit by the ship. With that in mind, I don't believe there was clear answer of what Athena was. Was she just a mermaid, or was she a siren, and the Ariel films decided to omit that fact? Or did it not matter, either mermaid or siren, the moon in Neverland affected you the same? Either way, its definitely something worth looking into. A theory that could be plausible is that she was rescued, not kidnapped. if her injuries were severe, after the run in with the pirate ship, the only place that she will never die for certain, is Neverland. if there was a possibility that she could heal, but it was unlikely, then it makes even more sense. It then leads to several questions. Who rescued her? Does Queen Athena have connections with the Merfolk in Neverland? If she's healed, why doesn't she leave, and go back to her family? Does she owe somebody for healing her, and that's why she stays? I believe your onto something with this theory, its just slightly off center.

think you might have your little mermaids confused Ariel's beginning is the 3rd little mermaid movie serving as prequal. the scene at 3.08 is Ariel and her daughter Melody. big hint mermaids don't wear clothes. there is a scene where Athena kisses young Ariel's cheek which you could have used as a comparison. the peter pan mermaids don't look like Athena- hair colour is different. Athena's hair is more of an autumn red while the pan mermaids hair are like ginger biscuits
