Hey Alysa no prb glad to help :) I aligned with a center in my area. I suggest aligning with the center that trains you and then maybe searching for a new one after you’re certified, if you don’t want to stay with that one

Nice info...foodfor thought..you're also not including business insurance, business cards, and if anyone doesn't have their own offices or a training facility sometimes you might have to rent one if they don't have 1 to provide. However, typically they do. I'm about $3000 in just beginning to schedule of my own classes. Manakins and training materials along with a gift each time is quite costly. Also, you do already have to be certified in CPR, and 1st aid which is an additional cost before you can become a trainer yourself.

Hey Connie! The insurance is called Lockton and the link is in the description. For the mannikins, I got them from a site called WorldPointe. They are also sold on Amazon

Thanks for this video! I’m an RN and I really want to get into teaching CPR amongst other certifications. Would you say that you have a peak time of year and if so, when?

Because you are an RN I’m sure you know other medical professionals who always need certification. Honestly because of that, there is no off season lol.. there were times where I had to take a break because I was getting too many clients. At the old cardiology practice I worked for, I was the CPR trainer and I would do everybody at the same time so I guess you could say it was an off season for the practice during those two years that nobody needed certification. However, I was still getting business from other places. Once you become an instructor and you begin marketing yourself, you will always get clients especially if you make your prices a little lower than the competitors in your area. In my area, CPR classes are easily $90-$100 so I set my prices at $75.

It was exactly what I needed to know. Do you need to get a business license as well and start filing taxes as a self employed person? Or would you rather get with me off the record?

Yep I’m verrrry much so from DC 😂 As far as the business license… you will definitely need one in DC if you decide to do things like build business credit and/or purchase a car/building in your business name. The way you file taxes, depends on if you decide to form an LLC, corporation, or self-proprietor. I didn’t do any of the above mentioned things for my CPR business because I didn’t know about them back then. Not doing it now because it’s only something I do passively now. But if it’s a business you want to really grow, then I’d say go through the process of becoming a legit business. At the least, you definitely want liability insurance

Hey K! I'm about to do an Instructor class to get certified this weekend. I was wondering, once you become an Instructor, are you able to train other instructors? Or do you need a nursing license to do that? I want to hire my partner to be an instructor as well once I get my business started.

Hey! Great question… yes you can eventually become an instructor. I’m guessing by now you have already taken the course. The center that trained you should be able to tell you how to become an instructor. I hope all is going well with your certification process.

In PA it's not that easy. You have to have a training contract with the agency or company you are training.

Thank you for this video. I’m a safety manager in construction and my company is paying for me to become an Instructor through the Red Cross. My plan is to hon my craft through my job and then branch out independently. While inquiring information on this and the difference between the two through the Red Cross. They said I will need to set up a LLC so my question to you is do you have a video on setting up an LLC to be a business? My class is 8/19/22 thank you in advance.

Im taking my instructor class thia coming week. To make sure i understand, after you pass your class and get your kit dot ou have to be aligned/affiliated with a training center on krder to teach or can you just teach? Im going through AHA for my class

That’s correct. You always have to be aligned with the center. You can’t maintain certification without it. As a matter of fact, the training center I was aligned with recently closed down, and now I need to hurry and find a new center because technically my certification is null and void until I get a new one.

I’m looking into becoming an CpR instructor too but what you had mentioned in the beginning of your video, are you talking about being monitored because this is the AHA American Heart Association course or is this just stright CPR/BLS course? From what I was told, the AHA course is when you’re being monitored. Correct me if I’m wrong, I would like to know the correct information before taking it. Thanks!

Correct! When you are getting certified through AHA, you have to be monitored teaching one or two classes. And yes, it is for the CPR/BLS course.

You will have to call around to some and see what their process is to align with them. There’s probably going to be a fee and they may want to see you teach a class. Every center is different so it may require more or less.

Hey! I’m sorry I’m just seeing your comment. But yes, we have to pay them a fee to buy the cards. So when we are aligned with a center, it means that we are under that center. This is who we go through to recertify our instructor certification every two years and it is also who we go through to buy our CPR cards. With AHA, you must be under a center to remain active. Good question. I’ve never had to pay for space because I always did them in a doctors office, daycare, church, etc. But, I did know people who had spaces that I could rent if I needed to

Hi! I’m a recent cpr instructor.. I was told to get my LLC first. Should I come up with my own business name for that? I was also told about a non profit organization

Hey! You don't have to start an LLC first but you can if you want. And if you plan on growing the business and eventually applying for business credit. You definitely want to select a business name before anything and check around online to make sure it doesn't already exist. I have a couple LLCs but I never created one for my CPR biz. As far as non-profit orgs, that's a whole other process. There are many steps to creating one and you want to be sure that's what you REALLY want.

Hi Tracey! I got my Manikin set from a company called Worldpoint. However, I have seen the same set on Amazon. It’s been a long time so I’m not sure which site had them cheaper but you can check them out and compare. Everything else I did get from Amazon, like my trainer AED, my training EpiPen, etc.

Hey, I obtained liability insurance which is enough for me. But someone who wants to create a scalable CPR business may consider forming an LLC for tax purposes and to protect their personal assets. I have two LLCs for two other businesses because of the nature of those businesses and I’d like to keep them separate from personal. So I’m pro LLC and def think ppl should look into it and see if it makes sense for them. As for the liability insurance I use, it’s called Lockton

Oh okay so you basically operate as a sole proprietor. I operate my agency contracts as a sole proprietor and I use NSO as my liability insurance. I’m going to check out Lockton. Thank you.
