Heyo! Mitch and Day here 👋🏼
We’re just your typical American-Colombian couple determined to live every second of our precious time here on earth to the fullest. After a 10-month solo backpacking trip through South America, I (Mitch) stopped in Cali, Colombia to take salsa dancing classes 💃🏻. I only planned to stay for a couple weeks, but God had other plans for me. I met a cute Colombian girl (Day) in class, those couple weeks turned into a couple years, and before we knew it...we were married 👰🏻🤵🏼
Now we’re traveling the world full time as digital nomads, supporting ourselves by working online 👨‍💻👩‍💻
Our goal with these videos is to inspire you to step outside your comfort zone, give you an inside peek at our crazy imperfect lives, and show you that you don’t have to be rich to live an extraordinary life...all you need to do is make the choice!

Beauty Fatigue. What a perfect term! I've learned that living in paradise ruins paradise. Instead, live somewhere where you can live safely and relatively frugally, that's also relatively central to places that you consider to be paradise and only travel to them occasionally. That way, you provide financial security for yourself and are much more able to appreciate the beauty of the people and places you visit.

If you want locals who love you, I think the trick is sticking to places that are not overrun by nomads/tourists. Like here in Cali Colombia everyone is super nice to foreigners and goes out of their way to help.

We just discovered your channel and are loving it! We were wondering if you were looking directly at us when you talked about the lumpy sofas in furnished apartment rentals, as we were sitting right on one at the time. Totally agree that part-time nomad is a great way to go. We started off thinking full-time travel was for us, but now we only travel about half the year and feel we have the benefits of both worlds.

I'm a former digital nomad and it gets tiring. Another thing is it can be difficult to make friends since no one wants to invest in making friends with you since they know you'll move on in a couple of months. I decided to settle down in Cebu Philippines and I couldn't be happier. I have a great church family, I have a house set up the way I like it and want it. The thought of jumping around from place to place again brings me dread to be honest.

That's so awesome you found a place you like. Is there a community of other digital nomads or coworking spaces there? After traveling as a DM for quite some time, I'm just starting to realize the value of choosing places with a community. When I first started, I always though "why would I wanna be around other nomads all time time? Where's the culture in that?" This led me to choosing a lot of random and isolated locations, and even though I was with my wife, it felt lonely. It's been really refreshing to settle down for a few months places like Bansko and Chiang Mai to meet other likeminded people and have a small feeling of "normalcy". We also miss having a church family, so looking forward to finding one here in CM 😇

Unfortunately no, the Philippines isn't really a digital nomad spot like Bali, Vietnam, or Thailand. All my friends are locals. They helped me come back to Christ and give up the 'alternative lifestyle' that I was living before. They're actually more like a second family to me than just friends. @@ProjectUntethered

That's a very legit video 😎👍 this is why having a family is also important, yes it adds to the complexity, yes some days are better than others of course, but I'm glad I don't have to live a lonely life, or be surrounded by people who aren't legitimate friends and just want to walk away with something and/or they gladly stab you from the back. I'm 100% with you, traveling slow, and having a home base make a real difference, having a place to call home where you know the folks around you, and you have your few selective comforts are a must. Traveling in go go go mode is rewarding when you only travel 1 to 3 times a year when you try to cram as much as you possibly can, but that ain't no vacation, that is a tourist workout, you get back home more exhausted than when you left, repeat that too many times and burnout will be your best friend. In our case I know that being able to communicate on a local level is paramount, not fluency, but enough language not to feel yourself handicapped. Being able to hold conversations, meet people, or knowing how to read and write can go a long way. And like you said, you gotta take the good with the bad, there isn't a perfect life style. An open mind and open heart can make digital nomad or long term traveling a lot easier to deal with long term. And we're back to the home base idea, if going to a new destination didn't satisfy your nostalgia, don't bother cramming another new destination, go back to that place that feel like home and spend some time there, this doesn't mean calling the quits, this mean giving your mind and body the rest it needs to recharge and plan out your next adventure. Being a digital nomad takes more than most people imagine, it isn't just intagrams destination and tik toks from paradise islands, it takes self-discipline to a whole new level because you simply won't have those loved ones around you for the hard times or the good times too. Also people need to know about the toxicity of expats bubbles, they can be encouraging at the times you feel homesick, but there is always a crowd that live in command of the expats bubbles simply because they weren't able to live in any other way, and they spread major toxicity to others feel either dependent on the bubble or feel casted away from it. Keeping a balance from these bubbles will very much open your vision to how many paths you can take and how to truly adapt to blend in like a local. It's just a great general advise, when there is too much negativity in a single place, move on and don't confine yourself in it. I can continue writing but my comment is already way out of proportion 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the video, and please stay strong out there, you aren't lonely so treasure each other ✌️😎

Wow these are all great ideas! Maybe you should make a part 2 to this video 😋 I love the insight you have on if a trip doesn’t scratch your itch, the solution is not to try to cram in another trip - it’s to rest. I’ve definitely fallen into this trap in the past, and I’m trying to get better 😇 after we finish here in the Maldives, we are planning to slow way down and change up our strategy a bit. Thanks again for all the wise words!

All points are exactly what I realized without trying this lifestyle- I could do the 'digital nomad' lifestyle if I wanted. Not tied to any location with my job. And I LOVE travelling. But I also know I lve my home and I would be miserable and bored if travelling not felt 'special' any more. I use my privilege to do 'vacation days-cheap' extended holidays - meaning you go somewhere(with my gf who is in the same position) for two weeks (two or three times a year)- and combine 'working from home' with vacation days 'spent' on moving to and back from the destination . ... you get weekends plus evenings every day(time difference complicates this for sure;)) in a vacation destination. Best of both worlds;)

@@ProjectUntethered I'm no a digital nomad. But I have spent the last 4 winters in a small coastal town in Mexico that has been over run by digital nomads. The prices have risen and many seem to travel with dogs and think they have special privileges. It's becoming a mismash of untitled gringos. The locals are not happy with this. I see crime rates rising. I'm going to another spot this year where they haven't found yet. Sad but true.

@@ProjectUntethered one suggestion, I hope you don't mind, perhaps prepping a few more shorter videos, and leaving them to premiere on a consistent basis would hit 2 targets with one stone, especially you can take advantage of when you find that great rare wifi and leave all these videos uploaded and they should play in the order you've scheduled them. This way you can just keep your engagement here and there when videos go live, while that buying you time to enjoy more of you destinations without that guilty feeling of letting work pile up (and I know exactly how that feels 🙈🙉🙊) Another one, which is totally if you have the time for, but it's a fun way to fill up the gaps is a live video here and there, something which you don't need to spend much time on planing, and can be another small income stream. Plus the audience really enjoy being able to interact with creators "directly", be it through a Q&A, or just about anything you feel like talking about or showing, like a walk through such and such live market, help me choose what to eat, or just that time for quality engagement. Once the live is over the video continues up on your channel. Another idea on the same train of thought of live stream are podcasts, it doesn't need to be a dedicated one, but more of a segment, like a monthly talk with this guy, or that girl, or this content creator, or that expat/interesting person. I'm literally just brainstorming here, not demanding anything 🤣👍 Also it would be awesome to see some collabs with other creators in any shape or form. At the end of the day, just keep creating what you guys love doing. Having a routing while traveling is nearly impossible, unless you have more money than you can possibly spend, which isn't most of us 🤑💵💸💷💶💴 Hope any idea helps you somehow 😎👍👍

@williamaungleyraud these are all amazing ideas! I love the idea of scheduling out shorter videos when we have good wifi in order to keep things consistent. Live videos also sound really interesting to me, but I just haven’t found the time to figure out how they work. I’d love to engage with viewers more though! I think if I wasn’t also trying to run the blog, I could find time to do all of these. Hopefully I can eventually hire enough help to free up more time. That's great feedback, but KZfaq, or social media in general have a big trap for content creators, it's called the analytics. The more content creators watch the analytics the more they end up creating content they don't feel enjoyment in creating and over time it builds burnout and even resentment. It's one of the reasons why I always feel apprehensive to start a channel. The moment the creators stop listening to their hearts and start listening to the alanytics, the algorithm, and what the audience want to see more, some creators feel the loss in freedom of creation and that's not good. And if you dive in the rabbit hole of making a living out of social media, which should like the best job ever, but most people don't get that content creators work way beyond a full time job without getting overtime, sick leave, paid vacation, etc etc, AND earnings for the first few YEARS until their channel catch up. The reason I like channels like this is because the creators are coming more from a place of passion, and enjoyment in sharing what they themselves like doing, so that gives a sense of originality and being genuine. Haha sorry 😅, you probably know my entire bla about it, I'm just saying that feedback is great, but giving some breathing room to the creators is also great. Personally my family/life/work balance is (not to say terrible) let's say with room for improvement 🫣😉 I'm always amazed to how much more determined people can achieve by putting out the work despite everything else. So let's be here to support, and hopefully not to overload ✌️😎
