I live in the Appalachias now. I'm originally from Nicaragua but I can't stand the cartoonist stereotype that has been drawn about Appalachian people. I have never felt more at home anywhere else. Warm fun loving freedom loving people who understand how to steward the land and game. Heaven on Earth.

Tipper, thanks for the video. If the whiners would take a close look at mountain streams they would realize that the streams change constantly. With the severe elevation drops in mountain country those little streams become raging torrents. The river that I grew up with in West Virginia looks entirely different after only 50 years. Nature changes its own environment. After the floods the fish, turtles, snakes, crawdads, salamanders, leeches, bugs and every other living creature is still there ! Continue to celebrate Appalachia. For entertainment, I do what you do. And I love messing around in my garden and landscape beds. I love hanging out with my dog and walking. I love sitting on the porch and watching wildlife go by. Our entertainment when we were kids: tater fights, rotten egg fights, hunting and fishing. We also made forts in the woods and had dirt clod fights.The pit bull who raised us, Peanut the Wonder Dawg, would have a litter of puppies every year, and we loved playing with them.

I'm entertained by every day life and I have no idea what being bored feels like. Always new things to discover.

I love how she always says "ever how" when she is discussing various ways of doing something..."Ever how much you want, ever how much you need, ever which way you like." That is true Appalachian talk..most folks would say "however much you want, need, or like."

Food tastes so much better cooked over an open fire!! I took up fly fishing about 2 years ago. I'm not any good but just the act of being out in nature and near water is the real reward for me.

Here it is over a year later after my first viewing and I had to enjoy this one again. This is even more a very peaceful concert of forest and family serenity that makes this maybe my all time favorite of your video/audio artistry. I really love campfire cooking, especially in green leafy secluded places. Matt has outdone himself with a delicious skillet lunch in such a place. The violin music adds a special touch that really pleases. Congratulations on creating such a masterpiece of tranquility and beauty .

We immigrated to chicago in 1983 and we’ve been living in the city. But I feel like God is calling me and my family to be a part and live in the country. I can remember that when friends playing music. But more than that I remember hunting with my father and the dogs. We had beagles and later I got a English setter, I still think and remember that dog.

As a kid, I played in the woods all day, climbing trees and building forts. Now I love to quilt or knit or do some sort of handcraft.

My brother and I stopped up creeks all the time to make a "swimming hole". Every time it rained it got washed out! LOL

I envy your life. That's exactly where I would be if I could. I grew up in a holler in West Virginia. I miss the mountains and creeks so much.

Some of my earliest memories when I was very little, early 1960's , were of my parents, Aunts, and Uncles, playing and singing folk songs. When I say folk songs, I mean Go tell Aunt Rhody, The Fox Went Out in a Chilly Night, etc. Not the anti establishment kind. When I hear your family, it makes me think of those times and those long gone family members. Thanks for the memories, I really do love your videos!

Many people liked to sit and talk and enjoy each other's company. Some people were great storytellers. Me? I liked throwing horse shoes. When I was a kid, we played in the creek and built forts, caught lightening bugs, made bows and arrows and slingshots, made rope swings in the woods, or swung on grapevines. When we could get hold of some boards and nails (usually had to straighten out bent ones we would pick up from where someone had built something), there's no telling what we would build.... usually tree houses, that were usually more like tree platforms because we never could find much scrap wood. We always had some sort of bicycle to ride and, in the winter we rode our sleds when it snowed. Mostly, as kids, we just imagined and played whatever our imaginations led us to do.

You are conjuring up allot of memories for me.

I love being in the woods, exploring, listening to the sounds of nature, wading in a creek or foraging. Been doing this ever since I was a child. I'm 60 now and lucky to have a friend who likes the same. Gonna have to try listening (on my phone) to some fiddle music as I wander next time. That was magical.

That was really fun! Bein' at the crik was my favorite thing growing up too, Tipper Sweetie. Hearin' and seein' your grown children out there with you lifts my Spirit. Music and Family and sautee'd veggies in an iron skillet. Heaven on Earth ❤️.

This is what I knew growing up and when I got older, I found out that they called it "Bushcraft". We called it "getting along"! I still love it just the same. That Irish fiddle is wonderful as well! Thanks for bringing us along and sharing this family time with us!

Being out in the woods and creek beds by oneself is a real joy. Being able to share it, as do Tipper, Matt and the girls, just multiplies the enjoyment for everyone. Very much appreciate your gifts to us.

I loved going camping with my papa. We would set up 5 or 6 bamboo fishing poles with bait, then go elsewhere and swim. We jumped off rocks into the water. We would cook taters and onions in a cast iron over the fire. Papa would wake us up by firing a 12 gauge in the air and then laugh his butt off. Then we would check the fishing spot, collect our fish clean em and go make lunch. It was so incredible, I loved it.

Oh my goodness, when you talked about people commenting that you were endangering wildlife by playing in the creek…I belong to a rock hunting group on Facebook and we had a rash of people saying we were “destroying ecosystems” by rock hunting for a pocket full of rocks along creeks. They went as far as to say that simply walking in the woods was evil and that we were destroying the environment because of the leaves and sticks we were disturbing with our feet! Good heavens, seriously?! I reminded them that the very house they are living in, the furniture they are sitting on, the gasoline they fill their cars with, all disturbed ecosystems! That the very vegetables they were eating came from fields that were plowed…and in those fields were mice, voles, snakes, and possibly a few rare creatures whose homes were destroyed so they can eat their salad. That ended it haha! Anyways, it cracked me up because as you were moving around and stacking the rocks I was remembering those conversations…and then you said that you were confronted with the same thing. Joy sponges are everywhere! Beautiful video as always, thank you.

Oh and, my 5th grade "boyfriend" Martin Thorne gave me a "box" turtle just like that for my 11th birthday. It was the best birthday ever. I kept him for about a week then set him free. Great memory.

Yes, I love the water, it's magical! I used to look for clay veines in the creek, I'd dig the clay out, find a flat rock and make some kind of sculpture out of it. Very often I'd make a clown face and leave it to dry in the sun.

Wow…I feel as if I have been transposed into the mountains by watching your video. The food your husband cooked (over the fire) looked great too! And the fiddle music made me want to dance. The bubbling brook is so soothing. Therapy for the soul. There is nothing better than spending quality time with family. Making memories. Growing up on the farm my folks would build what they called smudges for the cows to keep the teeny tiny little black flies away. They could just about drive cows - and people - berserk. Your little fire made me think about that. That and it’s teeny tiny little fly season and they are really bugging me this year.

There aren’t any creeks bear where I live. But since I adore the sound of water, my husband bought me a “crackler”. It was designed to play the crackling noice from a fireplace, but it has many other sounds as well. And one of them is the sound of water running in a creek or stream. I leave it turned on 24/7, just so I can hear the relaxing sound of water running. Thanks for the beautiful video Tipper!💕

This was such a relaxing video with the wonderful sound of nature and your daughter on her fiddle. To hear an Irish tune in the woods, made me imagine a Confederate camp or the 69th New York Irish Brigade with someone on a fiddle playin an old Irish tune with a camp fire burning soldiers talking one to another. I loved camping out in the mountains of Utah. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Celebrating your way of life in the mountains…younger days, playing with cousins, going on picnics, riding bikes, going for walks on the railroad tracts and yes we had a creek, our father damed up for us to play in…mother would say go to the creek with a bar of soap and wash up real good and you won’t have to take a bath tonight…now leave your clothes on and give then a little scrub but be sure to rinse off real good…evening times on Friday or sat we gathered at someone’s house and played card games, like monopoly etc. bike riding was after Sunday church and dinner. We were not to get hot and sweaty so we did not have to do but a PTA bath before going back to church…thank you for asking what we use to do.

I love a nice campfire and cooking over it. I like working outdoors in cool weather, and reading local history books, genealogy, and I always love it when the kids and grandkids come to visit. I also enjoy visiting our local elderly neighbors, and hearing their stories. I like learning of the old ways of doing things, from long ago and learning survival skills. My dad used to take my sister and I walking in the woods often. We had many get togethers at my grand parents house with friends and family having good food kids playing games and of course lots of singing. My grandpa was a Minister it seems that's were everyone wood hang out and have fellowship. Now our favorite thing to do is relax on our back patio and enjoy the outdoors. I love to quilt, read Amish books and religious devotionals, cook, and of course watch Celebrating Appalachia! I don't like to shop and I am indeed a home body! I am content just being home! One of my most fun and relaxing forms of entertainment is handwork…knitting and quilting, primarily. I just watched the video about antiquing. That’s something my husband and I enjoy doing together. We have grandchildren (and great grandchildren) across the country that we enjoy getting together with and share stories and memories. My youngest grandchild comes from Colorado every summer and she and Nana work side by side in the kitchen and the yard and also enjoys antiquing and handcrafts. I lived 40 years of my life out west and couldn’t wait for the day I could move back home so I’m not wasting a day of this paradise! Thank you for all you do. I Love your channel, it's just wholesome. When I was a kid in Australia we had a creek at the end of our street that flowed all the way down to the river, it was a magical place to explore and play in for a child. I don't have any extended family left , however my entertainment today is spending time with my kids and grandson and spending time with my friends , reading books and bush walking. Most of my family are gone on. I spend time with friends--on the phone, via letters, with online cards, and in Facebook. I also have friends who work at libraries, and I can connect through the online programs they offer. And, of course, by sharing gifts across the miles! Surprise gifts are simply delightful! As a child--we would wade in creeks, and follow them as far as we could. And swinging on the grapevines in the woods! What fun!!

One my favorite entertainment is watching your videos and listening to your stories. It's makes you think of the country life I'm so glad I was blessed to know. From the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia , we so enjoy going riding through the dirt back roads .

When I was young at home with my parents and sister, our best entertainment was walking together as a family. There was a lot of walking city neighborhoods in Louisville but when we got a chance my Dad would take us to places where there were wooden trails to walk…something reminiscent of what this vlog was all about. This video brought me lots of peace and happy memories. Thanks so much for that.

That is a neat folding saw. My husband is collecting items and researching bc he is interested in hiking the AT. I will have to show him this saw in case he needs something like that. I agree, the fiddle music is so beautiful and soothing, if I could learn another instrument I would want it to be that. My little neighbor would come over and play her fiddle for us when our daughter was a newborn. I really enjoyed that. That gentle spring was soothing too. It is nice that the family gets to enjoy doing things like that together as often as you do.

Rocks in the creeks and shells on the beach. There was no better or cheaper entertainment when I was growing up. One of the things I really loved was long walks through the woods with my Grandma Thelma, who taught me the what the different plants, berries, mushrooms and moss were called. And when we went camping at night she would point up at the stars and name the constellations. When I was a kid she bought me a set of glow in the dark stars to put up on my bedroom ceiling and I had glowing constellations to fall off to sleep by. Lots of camping taught me to cook and can out in the woods. Entertainment, education but most of all the best of memories. Thanks for sharing yours. ; )

My Grandmother was from copper hill Tn. She was Elsea Crowe. My grandfather was William Sunderland so my maiden name is Sunderland. I thank God every day I look out my window and see woods ! I sit on my porch day or night and see animals or hear them.. I love to visit other parts of Appalachia for vacation lol! Took my son to see the ocean for his 18th birthday 3 days and the whole family was ready to see the mountains again!!! Like the old man said if I didn't live here I'd get here as fast as I could!
