Nike Air Max 97 Review - The Nike Air Max 97 was the first air max ever to feature a single molded air unit that extended from heel all the way to the toe seamlessly. Previous air maxes had visible forefoot air units, but they were separated, and not continuous. So when we needed to cut apart a pair of Air Maxs for air max month we had to do the 97 to see how the shoe is built and what's on the inside of the world famous sole. So I bought a pair to cut in half to see what's inside and test how much pressure is really in the air units.

Almost as bad as the Huusk "Japanese hand-made" knives; made at very low cost by machines in China. From the same scamming company as the "Nuubu foot detox" patches. I wish KZfaqrs would do a little research before taking sponsor $$$. In the long run it's just detrimental to their credibility and hence, channel.

Frankly, these Kamikoto knives are (not Japanese) made of inexpensive stainless 420J2 steel with low hardness of HRC ~53. Initially sharp, but edge retention is mediocre at best. So, their "bargain" prices are easily explainable, since this is a typical marketing case of nowadays: cheap product pretending to be premium - something we have a lot in boots and shoes department, especially for sneakers with production+logistics cost of $25-30 sold for $100-$150 or more.

Also, check out some Asics sneakers, and there's no need for greenscreen, your regular background is just fine as it is.

Yeah, the phrasing for the ad copy is doing a lot of heavy lifting to imply they are made in Japan. Saying Japanese steel knives sounds like it's a knife from Japan, made from steel, instead of being a knife, made from steel that might be from Japan, etc. And if it was actually made from decent steel, they'd say what specific steel in detail.
@maidpretty
@maidpretty 2 жыл бұрын
@@bernardwelsh1877 While Kamikoto knives are made in mainland China, SUS420J2 Cr13 C0.3 steel is probably made in Japan. Well, it's always a bad sign if a knife maker won't specify steel and hardness. It's like when a shoe maker has no info on upper and sole materials. The 7" Santoku (sold for $171) unit cost (rough estimate) should be sub $35 in medium sized production batches with box included.

The foam is in there to make the midsole comfortable. Some other air max units just had solid rubber columns. The tunnels of air works like coring out the midsole. It provides more compression in the foam but the pressure of the air holds it up so it doesn't collapse as the foam bottoms out over time. The outside air is to provide stability. May just be a gimmick now but Air Max was a legit running shoe back in the day.

These were my beloved shoes I owned the original silver ones from 1997. I previously owned the air max 95's in green and grey and then bought these 97's in silver. I was in the army and stationed in Alaska and wore them to PT as I ran in the cold, the air chambers played some odd tricks as they hit the cold pavement. I also wore these to my first ever trip to the UK in 1997 and got some looks - good times

Always fun seeing the sneaker teardowns. I'm sure it's a very challenging process making shoes that are mass-manufactured and have to appeal to many different types of people. As far as the green screen, I much prefer the simplicity of the shop background without all the edits and cutaways. Sometimes less is more. But hey, that's just me. Thanks for the awesome vids, Weston.

its terrible, indeed. I have one that was barely a year old when the sole lost its adhesive and it made way way for the air membrane to simply brake at some point and the cause the air unit to lose pressure. Really embarassing and frustrating, since it is a fairly expansive shoe

@@sebastianmorales2753 That's a great idea! It would be like a written review of KZfaq videos. I guess it would be just like food critics writing about the food they had at a restaurant. You could critique the production quality, the script, the level of detail they went into if it's a review of something or the quality of entertainment from less informational videos. We could do bio's on the channel founder and investigate the truth behind channels who are faking their lifestyle, kind like coffeezilla does. We could do interviews with them and get answers to questions like they do with celebrities. We could also do behind the scenes of big KZfaqrs who don't already do them themselves. I think a lot of people would watch that kind of stuff since it's already a huge industry in Hollywood and the music industry. I don't want to be into gossip, though. That kind of stuff can be pretty toxic. I've always wondered what kind of channel I could start and I personally don't know many that already exist like this. Thank you so much for egging on this long reply and giving me a great idea for a channel. 😆 Just having fun, no ill intent bud.

I'd love to see you cut open more Air Max sneakers and other interesting Nike shoes. If you could manage to get your hands on any tubular air Nike shoes to dissect then that would be awesome. They were around for a short period of time in the early-mid 2000s so they are a bit rare to come by but the design choices are incredibly interesting but unfortunately they never really took off. In Australia the Air Max Plus which are known as TNs for their tuned air technology have a cult following so if you do a pair of them that would be awesome too. Another interesting Nike technology is Shox but they also never really took off like the air max. Interesting video. I love AirMaxes. The air bubbles look so cool but I find that once the foam carrier compresses completely that the air support columns hurt my feet. Air Maxes are my favorite modern sneaker style-wise but the most comfortable shoes I have are Nike Zoom Fly. The Zoom Flys are 3 years old now but the midsole is Nike React, a foam (I think the answer to Adidas Boost) sandwiched around a carbon-fiber plate. I was working in a warehouse at the time and tried on any cushioned shoes I could find, even breaking my Nike brand preference by trying on their rivals including Under Armour, Adidas and New Balance.

I always find these videos very interesting. I've learned a lot about what makes quality footwear. As for the green screen, you could edit in the background of your workshop and make it look like your old videos, instead of having a black background for the "green screen idle moments". Then you could sometimes switch and edit in whatever it was you wanted to use the green screen for. I don't like the big white letters flying by. I like it better when you use it more purposely. I hope I'm giving useful feedback in a constructive manner, instead of just saying I don't like it. I think you could make the green screen work very well for you.

I love your comment bc this reinforces how everyone has different tastes and preferences. Personally, the 270 is the most uncomfortable air max silhouette I've ever worn. They hurt my feet while wearing and are not easy to get on and off for me. I like the look, but functionality wise, I can't even rock them. Now, the 270 React ENG is one of the most comfortable models I've ever worn. I'm glad someone likes the 270s and I would advise trying the react eng if they release some better colorways. The Travis Scott pair is by far the best but there's not much competition with the React ENGs. Happy Air Max Month. Oh and to the creator, thanks for destroying your 97s my guy. I enjoyed seeing their guts. I have the red pair from the "medal" pack. I don't get it, but I got them for the low. Love 97s for casual wear and if I'm not planning on doing too much walking.

I prefer an interesting background with mood lighting. With a green screen you can have that and still do the short clips with you in the bottom corner that I liked.

I love the look of 97s and there are a lot of great colorways. But they're not comfortable. They get a little better with break in, but it definitely does not feel like I'm walking on full length Air Max. The full length air bubble is definitely a gimmick. Might have been different for the OG 1997 release when they were modern runners at the time. But with modern retros, they're nowhere near as comfortable as they look.

yup, had 97s and 98s (both on the same sole airmax unit) and man, survive whole day in those is a challenge sometimes. They're just to hard, and even when they're fit really well i feel that my foot is sliding down to the toes. I had some other airmax shoes and they're all super comfy. But 97 and 98 are just...ugh,...

@@instantchildbirth2746 Air Max 360 and its variants, Vapor Maxes, Air Total Max Uptempo, Air Max Genome, Lebron 7, Lebron 8. Probably more out there that I missed. I just listed the ones that have visible full length air. There are a lot of enclosed, non-visible air sneakers as well.

Love the videos! I wonder if you can tell the difference if you punch a hole in the air unit and use it for running. If it makes a difference then it’s probably not gimmick.

Weston, you should separate the upper of the shoe from the sole. Please look at the video and channels of other KZfaqrs. Some just fill hot water into the shoe or use heat lights in order to liquefy the glue in between. It is good that you cut apart the stitching on the upper of the shoe.

really great video. cool seeing them taken apart. i would say the green screen looks way less professional than what you had before. i feel like green screen is used by a lot of people starting out and then they build a set to look more professional. i liked it before with the rose sign in the back. the large scrolling text and the constant shifting scale or you in the video just was really out of place.

The original Air Max '97s and '98s were more cushioned and comfortable that the models released in the last decade or so despite visually being similar in appearance.
