As a owner of this sprayer I have to say I haven’t had the pump issue. However, I hate the fact that once the liquid gets under a certain amount it doesn’t pump out anything. Leaving me with about 6-8 oz of product still to get out. 🤬

Re: pump issue the sprayer can get airlocked. it happened when I tested the minimum amount of liquid would be left in tank. even after refilling tank, it won't spray until airlock is fixed to release air stuck in the line, there is a little knob under the trigger. unscrew this a tiny bit until liquid starts to spray out again then re-tighten

sorry I forgot to mention to hold the trigger down when slightly unscrewing the knob on top of wand trigger I initially said the knob is underneath which is incorrect. this purges the air stuck in the line and you should feel the pressure increase. will be noticeable as the pump will also stop whining continuously

Hey everyone, just commenting in regards to the pump issue.. I’ve had this issue on the 15l and 7.5l.. it is due to the filters clogging. Simply need to clean them out. For the 15l one it is at the bottom of the container, it pulls out easily and then just needs to be cleaned out (looks similar to a dish washing filter) for the smaller unit, the line that feeds the chemical through has the filter on the end of it, at the tip. It simply Pulls off however this filter is a very small metal grate, so be careful not to lose it. Once washed all will run perfectly fine again.

Good review, thanks! I’ve had the same sprayer for about a year and a half and have had no pump priming issues. The rubber covering on the hose where it connects to the backpack split but didn’t leak. I used some epoxy, wire loom and a few zip ties to fix it and give it a little more support. Apart from that, no issues so far. I agree about the lid, it does t screw on easily and it tends to leak out of the top vent of you move too much. I also agree that cleaning out the tank is a pain because of the shape and the flat tops. Apart from that, I like it and use it every few weeks.

Well, I'm back. The hose has literally dry rotted and cracked and the metal compression fitting chewed the hose to the point of bursting, which it did and showed me with herbicide!!! I've seen a couple of videos with the exact same problem and it's a pain to fix, but it's worth it. Like you, I agree that it's the best bang for the buck in the battery backpack sprayer market. So I'll fix it and keep on spraying.

I just switched to this unit from the Milwaukee M18 backpack. I am a Milwaukee fan boy, but they dropped the ball in a major way with the backpack sprayer. I've had 4 stop working and finally gave up! One would expect more for a $300 sprayer. So far, I'm liking the Ryobi, especially getting it for $69 on a Father's Day special. A funny comparison, I see several comments complaining about this sprayer having 6 ounces or so left in the tank and not spraying. Me and my wife were thrilled when we saw "how empty" the tank got in comparison. The Milwaukee would often have 1/3 a gallon or so left. I learned the hard way, don't try too hard to tilt the tank or get it to spray the remaining portion or the motor would burn up in no time, ridiculous.

I seen a guy do a write up on a forum that was having pump issues, he pulled it apart and found the hose to goes from tank to pump had a kink in it as it does a 90 degree bend into the pump. Also with the pickup inside the tank leaving product behing i rekon u should be able to extend to pick-up hose deeper into tank. They must keep it up higher to stop dirt getting sucked up but if your regular in cleaning your tank out i can't see an issue

I have this sprayer and it is a tank, it sprays everything all year last year with no issues whatsoever , I dont take the time to clean it probably as good as I should but it just always works until.... this season putting out some certainty to get rid of some poa. I guess im going to have to take it a part a little and see what's going on but it sounds like it wants to pump and it makes like two attempts and then just stops. I had to go back to my manual Chapin backpack sprayer and it really made me appreciate the Ryobi. I dont have the issue of it losing pressure when its low, it always just sprayed everything. It's not easy to clean which is probably why I dont do it as often. but I guess it's time to take it apart for a deep clean. I hope the pump starts working again, not sure if that is the same issue you were having or not.

The spraying/pumping issue could be due to the fact it accumulates dirt in the bottom of the unit? Mine sat down for a few weeks with solutions in it. The solutions calcified and formed tiny debris that clogged the small removable filter in the bottom of the unit. The unit started to pump fine again once i popped out the unit and cleaned it.

I've been using this sprayer for about 2 years now, and I added a proper T-Jet nozzle last year. At its max setting, I think this sprayer outputs the water pretty slowly compared to some of the better sprayers I've seen others use on KZfaq. For my 3000 sq ft plot, I need to take these little 1/2 foot steps very slowly and then return back in the next row at about a shoulder width from where I was. If I do that, I spray about 3 gallons over the 3000 sq ft space, but it just seems like I'm moving pretty slow to accomplish the spray, where as everyone else looks like they get to walk a regular pace. Just something to keep in mind.

Yeah well you using a sprayer that's not designed to spray 3,000 square-foot it's designed to spray around the house to some crack and crevice and spa treatment broadcast on some flower beds and some eaves around doors and window frames if you do that with it it'll hold up and it'll treat just fine you'll use about four gallons for every house should do which is sufficient you're trying to do agricultural Pest Control you need to step up and get a better sprayer

Spraying the tank isn't going to do anything for that type of sprayer you ought to know that it's suction pads similar to gravity fed you know you don't build up pressure so you don't spray back into the tank he just wants it starts siphoning properly it's going to work spraying the tank won't help with pressure at all but it will mix the pesticide or whatever you are using

I have about 6 of these. Much better than the older version. BUT, trying to Change the hose at the machine side is an issue. First, you need a star tip driver, that is NOT just a tip from a ratchet set because the adapter is too big to fit in the groove. THEN you need another star tip with the hole in the center just to get the hose off the pump. The house has a metal clamp which is crimped on, so you can't just cut the hose, where it will WILL leak or tear.

Ryobi makes two different ones of the 4 gallons and I think another smaller one, I own both of the 4 gallons versions, they both do lose pressure when the liquid is low, otherwise they both work perfect for me, I use one strictly for weed killer and the other one for no chemicals like neem oil. My only complain with both is their hose, with some of my fruit trees are near 20ft tall there's no way to reach the top branches with their 15" hose & I don't want to try something that is not made for it, I wish Ryobi or Home Depot do something about it.

Owned it for a few years .. sometimes a lil slow to prime, the cap is not just you .. The threads are horrible.. also can't seem to get the straps adjusted right and my left shoulder gets rubbed form the top of the tank .. but for what I paid .. I love it .. life is much easier with it than a can or backpack with pump handle .. I use it for weed killer and all my pre emergent apps .. overall a solid buy

@@TheLawnMentor Oh hey I meant to mention to you a product called Gallery 75DF (Isoxaben 75%) it's a dry flowable pre emergent .. 1st it's expensive ..BUT .. It is the tool you were always missing .. Where Prodiamine & Dithiopyr are for grassy weeds this is for broadleaf's. I Have a 2nd lot beside my main lot.. It had become overgrown into almost a field. Well the dreaded Dog Fennel & (and far as I knew there was no pre emergent that would control it) decided to live there in the field and went to seed going all into my beautiful Bermuda. It was everywhere.. so I sprayed with SpeedZone early spring and moved over to 3 way into the mid spring.. I could not keep up with it.. and it was driving me crazy 😥😥 ... you know the feeling. Anyway I sprayed it in mid March as soon as I received the Gallery, and of course I expected more that had already germinated but was hoping it would prevent new ones from germinating. So I went to hand pulling for a few weeks and lo and behold around mid April there was no more Dog Fennel !! .. It was nothing short of a miracle. I just wanted to share this with you so you could check it out if not familiar with it .. oh & Dandy's and other broadleaf's .. NONE!! as an extra bonus I always get Chamber Bitter along the edges of the property .. NONE ! It also covers Spurge and a handful of others. Sorry to write a book but hopefully this will come in handy for you as well as your KZfaq followers. Have a great day ..

@@TheLawnMentor Well, I have to report that my second sprayer came down with the same issue!!! ARGH....., but it's not what I thought. The surfactant I was previously using coagulated with the product being sprayed. So I switched surfactants and this showed no signs of coagulation until I mixed in another "stinger" product. It then coagulated like crazy!!! Both filters were clogged solid (1 after only 1 gallon sprayed! ) and there was stringy and globular debris in both tanks. So it was case of incompatibility as far as I can tell. Unless the tank itself is "melting" from the the products used, all will be well, I hope! LOL

after working flawlessly for 2 years, mine decided today that it wasn't going to work. It won't even make the audible sound. NOTHING. It sounds like you are getting too much of a negative pressure inside the tank causing your loss of priming. So much so that air is coming into the pump through the wand, and un-priming it.

@@TheLawnMentor k, I just watched your first video. On the lid there might be a flap or a rubber washer that acts as an air inlet valve. As the pump is running it should create enough of a negative pressure to pull that valve down and let air into the top of the tank. Maybe play with that and make sure the hole is large enough to let air in. If it looks like there are moving parts or a spring in with that valve, add a touch of vegetable oil to act as a lubricant.

No one ever wants a product to not work so they have to take it back to the store. Duh! Shit happens because life isn't perfect. The important thing is that a company line of products work a very high percentage of the time, and WHEN shit happens, they respond in a meaningful and fair way.
