This was explained so well. I'm not completely against so-called chemicals because I learned the hard way that natural isn't always the gentler option! The issue I have is how do I know which ingredients (that I can't pronounce) are necessary vs the superfluous ones that can harm. Your video helped me choose a shampoo bar. 😊

Thank you so much, this really helped. I’ve been using the Aussie shampoo for a while but wanted to transition to using a shampoo bar. I have wavy, medium thickness hair that’s usually really “poofy”, but I figured out how to manage it - until I started using the shampoo bar. My hair has been really frizzy and I hate the way it looks and feels when washing, but I’ve been persistent on using the shampoo bar because of the “transition period”. In the meantime, I’m going to look into a better bar that will fit my hair type. Thank you again

Thanks for this, I've been doing research on DIY hair products since I'm a curly head and products come and go for me since I use so much, my hair is so thick and my outrageous bottle consumption is just making me feel guilty, It's hard to find shampoo and conditioner bars that are fit for my hair, and even tho I found one, it was a little pricey so I'm looking for ways to somehow make it sustainable for myself :)

Also shampoo bars may not work as well because hair products build up on the strands over time, so clarifying your hair every couple months helps you “reset” your hair (mix couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water and let sit in hair before rinsing in shower

I like your video and to be honest I haven't liked a video on soap ever. You seem to cut the BS and you don't pretend that just because it's a "chemical" it's bad for you so for that I've subed to you. I've only seen this one video and I'm probably going to go through more of your videos. I've spent days trying to find anything on soap/shampoo/conditioning bars that is remotely like this. I haven't gone through all your videos yet but I would love to see a video on just the bare minimum chemicals and oil/s you need to make a shampoo and/or conditioning bar then what you need to do to expand on the recipes to make something that is your own and if possible how to make the liquid stuff too. I'm going to be trying to make some shampoo and conditioner bars at some point soon so I'll be watching as much or your stuff as I can. Thank you!

I try both soap shampoo and shampoo bar with surfactans and I do like it both in some way. I do have some pretty nice feeling of using soap shampoo my hair was so soft that I couldnt stop touching my hair :D just lovely. But shampoo bar with surfactants give much more foam than soap. My dad also do like a soap shampoo bar, he said that his hair was never so soft and nice. I do make both soap shampoo and other by myself. The gould think about shampoo bar with surfactatns is that you can add whatever you want like some proteins and other.

I didn't want to pay £7-8 for a separate conditioner bar. Then I found the XHC 2in1 bars for £1 in Poundland. Oh my god. They are amazing. Hey! I love your videos, I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I’ve been using a shampoo bar for a while & I notice that everytime I use it some of the hair dye from my hair drips out, it washes out with the water and I was wondering if you knew anything about this? I asked the company if it was colour safe and they said yes. The ingredients are: Coconut Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Milk, Water, Lye, Indigo, Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils. I’m just scared that my hair colour is going to fade quicker... previously I was using just ACV & tea to rinse my hair so maybe it’s just any dye washing out that never got shampoo’d ever.. what do you think? 🍁
@BottegaZeroWaste
@BottegaZeroWaste 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Orewa! this one that you are using is a soap based shampoo bar. It has a high PH as it's made using lye (sodium hydroxide). This might cause colour fading. Even though the ingredients are natural and lovely I would not use this soap on your hair, just as I have explained in my video. I suggest using a shampoo bar which is sulphate free (no SLS, no SLES, no coco sulphate). You can find also more information here: bit.ly/2Px9seY I hope this helps!

The only ingredient that might be heavy for fine hair is the cocoa butter. You could lessen that and add more jojoba or other light oil. You might have to tweak the herbs and /or clay to get the desired consistency or the final shampoo bar. Shikikai, clays and soap nuts are fantastic for oily straight hair. You could make a slurry with clay and or soap nuts, shikikai One or all for washing your hair. Just simmer the herbs for 5 mins put it on your hair swish it around and rinse. Your hair will be light and fluffy with a lot more body and shine. Add some Amla for growth. Boom There are videos on Ayurvedic and Clay hair washes. My hair loves them.

Am confused: doesn't skin also have acidic pH? Why are soap based bars ok for skin but not for hair?
@TracyD2
@TracyD2 Жыл бұрын
Well a pH balanced body bar is better for your skin. I think depending on skin type sensitive and such it can recover much better than hair. Skin can rejuvenate. Once hair is damaged that is it. It’s done for. We can for a while try to mask the damage but that only works for so long. Some people have success with saponified soap bars in their hair. Their hair thrives. I’m definitely not one of them.

There are no white or black rules here! Just sharing some facts about pH and hair. It's great you have adapted to them! What kind of shampoo did your family use before synthetics were readily available? Soap is not for everyone, that is true! But that's because those who think it's a good idea to use synthetics are not up to the challenge. It takes determination and dedication to make the transition to soap shampoo. Detergents are simply bottle shampoos without the water content. They are also not eco friendly, which has to go along with being zero waste.
