A lot of people aren't ready for this conversation but: in many of these societies, children are expected to make a monetary contribution to their households. They won't be playing or studying if these jobs don't exist. They'll actually be scraping by, looking for a job. The toxic, entitled adults in these cultures will force these kids on an even more dangerous route than working in a sweatshop, such as selling internal organs or being victims of sex trafficking. The best immediate solution to instill strict requirements for how employees are to be treated, and to follow through by maintaining a regular routine of unscheduled visitations to the factories.

@@emro164 The great deal with child labor is not so much about children losing their time working instead of playing, but about exploitation. A child cant own money. Anything they earn belong to the parents. Essentially, children that work, even when they're paid, are slaves. @@stellar783 Yeah, key word “ALL”. But not all people are, I don’t order from any of those stores just because that’s me, but there’s absolutely nothing we can do to make EVERYONE stop. And your logic isn’t ‘101’ because from people like us who have the privileges and live outside of 3rd world countries don’t understand that the 3 cents they may get from their job is better than the people who get none. Without these stupid fast fashion stores those people would have nothing. So instead of us trying to stop everyone from buying there we can do something ourselves and help the people who work there so THEY can leave that job and do something better for themselves. These stores take advantage of the powerless with their power, and in this case we are powerless to them and vulnerable. So if we take matters into our own hands and help those in these countries who are making little to nothing than that’s how to make a difference. It's already hard enough for kids to consider their parents the issue, as they depend on their parents due to their stage of development, much less being told that they are letting down millions of people be standing out. And if these kids try to hash it out on their own, they have incredibly limited options- they'll likely end up selling organs or getting into prostitution. There is not much infrastructure to accommodate domestic (parental or spousal) abuse victims in these areas because that is a normalized aspect of these cultures.

The UN participates in trafficking children... And you can't force these cultures to up and change on a dime. You have to coax them into it. The first step is for Western companies to perform random, unscheduled inspections of the facilities. Or they need to pull out in the event that the foreign entities disallow them from enforcing standards. Once they get their feet in the door, they need to advance workplace safety and worker security/benefits. Children are expected to work in these cultures. They won't be playing or studying just because their factory was shut down. Rather, they will be placed into even more dangerous circumstances. So they need to keep their jobs. They just need safer jobs until the given societies are comfortable with recognizing the needs of their children (better sleep, longer mealtimes, less pressure to be perfect, free time to explore hobbies and even other professional avenues).

Not all of us have 1000 dollars to spend on one handmade piece of clothing from a small company

we need to find a real way to provide clothes to low-income people, without taking advantage of others. i can't afford much else and even for me ordering one or two things off shein is a big decision. i hate that this is happening but there's a group of people who do need it, because its all they can afford. its not just about us getting cheap t-shirts. we need to use this type of stuff to start a conversation but don't shame people for using shein, shame shein for using people.

You can easily buy cheap clothing from depop, mercari, and thrift stores. I’m so tired of you people acting like you need trendy clothes. It’s bs and all y’all do is make excuses.
