Is the all new Chevrolet Colorado Bison the king of mid size trucks?! We give our opinion as owners of previous gen trucks... testing the new ZR2 Bison on road, high speed desert running, and rock crawling. Warning... skid plates were damaged in the making of this video!

I wish the Bisons could tow the full 6,000lbs. That’s why I like my Z71 and am slowly saving to get all the Bison mods.

FYI… if you add all the Bison parts, you should treat it as such and not tow all the way up to 6,000 lbs.

i owned a 2019 colorado zr2 diesel and absolutely loved it. I regret selling it every day. I am torn between the new Colorado Zr2 Bison and the 2500 ZR2 Bison.

I love my Tacoma... but yes. The TRD Pro package is not nearly as appealing to me as the Bison package. You get some pretty insane (and usable) stuff.

That suspension with the hydraulic bump stops was unlike anything I've driven before. The faster we went, the more we just floated over dips. You could hear them impacting with a metallic click sound... but you couldn't feel it.

My gripe is more with the rear bumper. No chase lights and the tube guard is gone. But overall that truck was extremely impressive.

This truck is a step in the right direction as far as stock offroad vehicles in my book but my biggest gripe is the pay payload. If you have 2 200 lbs dudes in there then you've only got 600lbs left to play with. If you have a hard shell mount that's 200-300 lbs less. You can't really configure an ultimate overland rig with this truck even though it is building towards it.

@ivaniuk123, I know it seems payload is low, but…..it’s already armored. Buy a regular truck and load it down with bumpers and skid plates and you are quickly at the same numbers. It’s just how it is.

Great truck and review! Can’t wait for the markups on these when they arrive at dealerships 😂. How was it driving on the highway? Comfortable? Tire noise and wind noise?

Honestly, it was great on highway. We drove it for about an hour on road before hitting the desert. The Bison is a bit heavier than the standard ZR2, and it feels it. A little less pep in the acceleration, but not bad by any means. We tested the back to back, so we could tell, but otherwise I think people will be very happy with the Bisons on-road performance. And surprisingly quiet! Thanks for watching!

No regear, 35s, heavier armor and only 1000 lbs payload. I wonder how this truck is gonna do if you add a camper like GFC (on the light side) or Alu Cabin (on the heavier side). Wonder if that 4 cylinder is going to struggle like my 4Runner with just a roof tent 😅. Do you guys think this truck will make a good adventure build? I’m kind of disappointed they couldn’t figure out how to mount that spare time better. Sure you can get an aftermarket swing gate but that’ll just make the back camera useless. No doubt it’s capable but the payload sacrifice is a little too much.

@@whocaresjustdoit I hear ya. For reference the payload is nearly identical to the last Gen Bison. I have a CBI Rack and GFC RTT and it handles it with no issues, but I definitely chose a lighter build with that in mind. The new engines higher HP/Torque will definitely help driveability over last Gen. Of course it remains to be seen how an Overland build setup will stress these turbo 4 cylinders. There is a great engineer interview about these engines specifically out on KZfaq, I wish I could remember who did it, but they talked about how they built it off of the learnings they gathered from the diesel engine and made it very robust. I truly hope that's the case. It's a great watch if you can find it.

They actually aren’t. Just different programming with the transmission. I’m curious if regearing will be a common modification now that they’re out. When we drove it didn’t feel slow but the gas mileage was pretty poor.

@@JasonExplainsThings I seriously doubt it. 23’s are way behind on delivery dates, you can’t get some parts for the 18-22’s and the UAW is on strike.

Ranger raptors are more of a high speed desert runner and Bisons are more for off road adventures and rocky roads. They are both purpose built machines. It depends what you want it for - although the ranger has way more horsepower for sure!
