You finally told the complete truth. I have been saying this for years!! That car should not have been driven in that manner on a public road. I do not blame the car. I am about your same age and we grew up with cars without ABS, no traction control, no stability control, no rev limiters, no driver's aides whatsoever. It all came down to your ability to control the car. And, like you, sometimes I went past my own driving abilities. I once, at 19, spun my 1983 5.0 5 speed Mustang GT across 3 lanes, 2 of which were into opposing traffic. I once accidentally drifted my 1987 Ducati Paso 750 on a curve with low traction and almost high sided. In both cases, I never blamed my car nor my motorcycle....I blamed myself. And I blame Roger Rodas.. not Porsche. If the Porsche has been driven at the speed limit, they would both still be alive.

Perhaps but a car like that should never have been allowed on the roads. The fact it terrified Walter Rohl the man who won at group B rallying, in the notoriously unstable lancia 037. The car itself was also dangerous, Walter Rohl isn't just some test driver. He's the man who won a group B rallying championship in the notoriously dangerous Lancia 037. Group B rally drivers were insane, so for him to speak that badly of the car, definitely suggests it needed refining before sale. I used to think Porsche held no blame, but when Walter Rohl and other test drivers are saying it's dangerous. You do have to reconsider and think Porsche did the right thing on paying out that money.

Craig, first off thank you for everything you do in being an ambassador for the import car culture. Your support and very informative videos and information, are outstanding. On this unfortunate event, I’m with you 100%. In aviation, it is said that a novice pilot’s enemy is inexperience, and an experienced pilot’s enemy is complacency. Complacency, an overconfidence in personal ability, and ego, all led to bad judgement by Rodas. Sadly, took Walker with him. Just very lucky it wasn’t a collision with another vehicle on the road. Insofar as suing Porsche, even the Carrera GT with all its limitations in safety features…..it’s still a car. A high performance car. One whose limitations need to be known and respected. Press it past those limitations, and you are indeed dancing with devil, like you said. The lawsuit against Porsche was wrong. But as another saying goes “it’s not whether you win or lose, but how to place the blame.” No winners in this one, you are 100% correct Craig. Peace be with you brother. I don’t care what anyone says. The car is not the problem. Reckless irresponsible drivers are the problem. Not only that, but Doug covered the recall on these cars. Zero of the affected cars in the recall actually show the problem they are being recalled for. I’m a dealer recall tech for Ford. Every automaker issues campaigns for various issues ranging from mild to wild, and most of the vehicles I service under recalls don’t have the problem the recall is servicing. It’s a high power vehicle and demands high levels of responsibility and high levels of respect. The end.

Respectfully disagree. It's not like Porsche sold the CGT and didn't tell people it didn't have any safety features, they were up front and if you chose to buy it, you accepted the risks. I feel bad for Paul's daughter but no money should have been paid to her from Porsche. The owner CGT might have been liable for driving aggressively on public streets and I could see him having to pay out. There are many accidents each year caused by vehicles that don't have current safety features, should they all be taken off the roads or the manufacturer sued for them not being upgraded to include them? Where does it end? All choices were made by individuals who accepted the risks they took in this situation, sadly, with tragic results.

It is ignorance to blame this on Porsche, this Carrera GT had stale expired tires. The car was designed to be extremely sensitive for the most premier of drivers. Rodas did not respect the limits of the car along with the maintenance required by it and put Paul Walker’s safety on the line. It was clear reckless driving I would not have happened otherwise. Even a lightly spirited driving would not have done this in the condition Carrera GT was at the time. Carrera GTs did not spin out off the road unless you the driver gave it that input. The Carrera GT is not defective the driver is, if the driver has an issue don’t drive the car.

Thank you for making this it could not have been easy. I don't tear up easily, but I remember when this happened and I was in disbelief. As someone on the sidelines, I'm so great full for the movies that he was in, but I can't help but keep thinking of what he could have continued to do both on film and off. Paul seemed like another Keanu Reeves type of person making great films with a great heart and passion.

Why was Porsche sued? I wouldn't pay a dime. They made the car, not drive it. By that logic, every accident should by paid off by manufacturer. Stupid

Same holds true for guns... gun mfg aren't responsible for idiots that use them to harm people

It's been more than 10 years at this point but I still remember when my mom came into my room and told me the news - it felt like a close relative was gone, Paul was special, he was nice, he was great.

Good to hear from someone who tells the full truth and is emotionally involved. Even though it must have been hard to make this video, thank you!

That quote always sounded like BS. Paul was a family man, loved his daughter, loved his friends, loved his life and seemed to always feel like he was on a mission to do better. That quote insinuates that if he died merely for the thrill of speed, then it was worth giving up all he loved. BS. Paul was better than that.

It's so easy in hindsight to say Porsche should have done XYZ when they made the car but at the end of the day Roger is the reason Paul is gone and Roger alone, Porsche is not at fault for someone driving like an idiot.

Great video Craig! much respect for telling it like it is. I'm sure its harder for you, having worked with him. Paul Walker was an Icon, A Role model and to some a teacher to the tuner world. Paul and his family will be remembered and cherished forever. . Drive On!

Thanks for covering this, I'm sure it was hard since you were as close to Paul as you were. As terrible as this tragedy was, it could/should have been easily prevented.

I don't see how you can blame a car or even a manufacturer for what amounts to utter recklessness on the driver's part. People buy those cars because the nanny controls aren't there. Paul, we were the same age and you are greatly missed.

It's the same people that blame spoons for them being overweight. Self accountability lacks

It just blows my mind at how safety was just thrown out the window and they are both dead. Yrs ago I worked at a tire shop in California and a friend whom got me the job went and put used inner tire rods on a 240sx. I refused to help him as it was against my better judgement. Minutes later after it was lowered off the rack and taken for a “test drive” the inner tie rods snapped. Fortunately for the kid who owned the car he was only going maybe 2 to 5 mph coast out of parking lot. But it was enough to scare the living hell out of him. He walked over to me moments later to shake my hand and tell me I was right.
