I feel like what a lot of these “creative” media groups don’t understand is that they’d likely have a lot less criticism if they made good shows/movies about the characters they clearly want to parade around. Reva, for example, could’ve gotten her own show without the Obi Wan branding and with decent writing, no matter how mediocre it was, it wouldn’t be so heavily criticized.

Whilst I'm not into fandom culture, it should be obvious that the actual assholes who harass actors don't represent a majority of a fan base, and are just people who need to seek professional help and that they should be seperated from people with legit criticism or the entire group. Someone saying that a character was awfully written or their acting was stiff DOES NOT automatically mean that that person is a racist, sexist, homophobe or whatever. "Toxic Fandom" only happens when a company does a bait and switch. They know what the fans want and they advertise whatever they're making as if it caters to what fans want. Then they give them something that has nothing to do with what they advertised instead. If whatever they're doing just sucks, it just gets ignored because nobody cares about it. If Disney made a bad space movie with a no name star that nobody has heard off, nobody would care. It would still flop, but nobody would be commenting on it. When they promise you a movie about Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker or some other established character that people actually want to see and then give you a character nobody cares about instead, that's when fans get mad. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want the increased viewership you get from a popular franchise then you have to actually give the fans something from that franchise. Fans don't care about diversity. They want a good show. It doesn't matter what color the actor is. It doesn't matter what sex the actor is. What does matter is whether the story is good. If diversity IS the story, then it's pretty much guaranteed NOT to be good.

You can only tell even the most well-intentioned people that you hate them for so long before they start believing you.

Some of us GenXers have simply turned away from Disney's Star Wars. We have our DVD's and Blurays. We have our Expanded Universe novels. We're content to enjoy Lucas's Star Wars and give no "energy" to Disney. No subscriptions to Disney +, no visits to their theme parks, no purchasing of any sort that contributes to what they're pushing as Star Wars. Apathy doesn't cost a thing, and when the true toxic people are alone in their echo chamber with no one to argue with. Will the company then make money? I doubt it. 4% is 4%. The End.

FINALLY! Thank you so much for being our voice. We all want the same thing in this fandom and its a good, well-written, proper story that blows our minds. But Lucasfilm doesn't give that to us so we criticize over and over until our voices are heard. I don't like Reva because of her poorly written story not because of the tone of her skin.

Remember the days when movie makers strived to wow their audiences? They'd sit nervously during premieres of their movies biting their nails waiting to see and hear their audience's reactions to their work. Sometimes they'd get it wrong and sometimes they would nail it, but after each project they would go back to the drawing board and try to better their work. Their entire reason for making movies was geared around their audience's reactions. Nowadays audiences are accused of having the wrong reactions to so called 'woke' movies. Is their anything that 'wokeism' doesn't turn to shit?

The idea that Disney is trying to defend Reva and her actress so hard from the "racists" while letting Finn and his actor hang out to dry even to the point of reducing his presence on the Chinese poster speaks volumes for me. Disney is STILL silent to how they treated John Boyega to this day.

I just found out from Toy Galaxy's recent video that toxic fandom apparently started in 1989 with Tim Burton's Batman. Fans were hella pisst when they announced Tim Burton as the director and Michael Keaton as Batman...the more you know.

The fan base isn’t toxic, but we are in a toxic relationship with the studio. They are ideologues who actually hate a large majority of the fan base, so they passive aggressively insert storylines and characters that they know will be problematic for that portion of the population. I believe it is more important to them that they stick it to that group of the fan base than writing a good show. They seethe with resentment and that resentment is evident throughout the writing of these shows.
