Scoop is not about Emily Maitlis, more about the work Sam McAllistair did to get the BBC interested behind the scenes as one of those recruited to get interviews. Based on her book Scoop. Emily Maitlis in earlier interviews just talks about 'the team' and I can't see any credit given to Sam personally in hers after the original interview. Maitlis is royalty at the Beeb and Sam smallfry always wondering if they'll get sacked in those days. The interview led to Guiffre's fury at the interview, lack of remorse on his part and subsequent court furores!

Absolutely fascinating to hear Samantha’s back story of this epic event. She is really great. I think she would be fun to have on a Girls’ Night Out. Can’t wait to see the film. The idea that Rufus Sewell is underneath all of those prosthetics reminds us of the efforts of all of the behind the scenes people and what they contribute to the finished product (not just the actors who are at the forefront).

I’m in the States and I watched Bill Clinton’s broadcast when it aired ‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman’ (and ‘it depends on your definition of what ‘is’ is’). When I watched Prince Andrew’s interview, it was like watching Bill Clinton implode all over again. Like deja vu. Audibly groaned both times.

I am sure this says a lot about me that I chose to not know myself but I have watched it a dozen times. I am fascinated by liars and by the 3rd watch I could absolutely see what he has rehearsed in his mind, how it did not match the question and even some "tells" (like when he talks about getting rid of abused children, not the abuse itself). You can also watch how he really, truly thinks of himself as entitled to the desires he held, how he thinks of women in general and for me, how a lifetime of being enabled left him clueless enough to believe he had done well in the interview. He really thinks Virginia was lucky to have been his victim but he does know he cannot say that. The man has NO inner life, no touchstone, no ethical reference point. It's fascinating to see how little meaning his life has held despite all the privileges.

OK, I get it. This is an hour long advert for the Netflix movie. But doesn't answer any of my questions.. What does Emily herself think about the movie? Why was she not involved? Is Emily upset, being excluded? I understand Emily is now working on her own documentary about the event. Is Sam involved on Emily's project at any level? Why and when did Sam leave the BBC? Is she still in contact with Emily? Are they still friends?

Emily was royalty at the BBC, Sam just part of 'the team.' There's no reason for them to 'get on' just respect each other's work. Emily can't really top that interview can she? Sam took voluntary redundancy later and is now a Visiting Senior Fellow in the law school of the London School of Economics. Wikipedia Emily is at the LBC, presenter of a podcast. Needs a change and a rest I expect!

Its irritating that he takes such joy in not knowing. There is nothing wrong in not knowing stuff but acting that way when you don’t just comes across as if he’s scoffing at anyone who does know stuff. Probably his way of dealing with feelings of shame at not knowing stuff. Shame not being the correct response by the way. Never feel shame for not knowing stuff, just take responsibility and decently ask for the education. Look at all the great KZfaqrs who are forever saying “What does that word mean?” - “How do you pronounce that word again? ” - Stephen Barclay, Joe Rogan, Tim Ferriss and loads of others. They are forever stating what they do and don’t know without sounding like a churlish teenager.

Well Joe, When I tapped on my KZfaq app, the first thing I see is this show. I think what the hell is this? But quickly, I didn’t care what channel this is bc I fell for the clickbait TITLE. Yes, we Yanks are susceptible to clickbait particularly about the Royal Family. I’ve watched the Emily vs Andrew program more than ten times over the years😮 I admit it. It’s one of the most BRILLIANT interviews in World history. I don’t recall what the timing of the US replay was, but I remember every family member and friend watched the replay. The stupidity displayed by Andrew was actually rather funny. We’ve always heard Andrew is a bit dim, but wow he proved it. Very interesting listening to Sam’s story. You three actually provide a good understanding of a producer’s role, which can seem murky at times. What I’d love is a BTS story of the Markle/Oprah interview, which pretty much gutted Americans infatuation with H & M. It was on shaky ground to begin with since they had quit the RF. Sam’s memorable quotes 😅: “BBC is a snakepit” “Election to erection” ~~ from 🇺🇸

I'll be watching - sounds fascinating!! I think Andrew's payout was so large (not sure the actual amount was ever disclosed, was it?) because the cost of a trial in USA would run into millions. A lot of people do the same. It is to save the exposure and cost of a court hearing and it puts the whole issue to bed a lot quicker than a court case.

👍 I would add that it was coming up to the Queen’s Jubilee. I think he was told to sort it quickly. I also think it could possibly be to his advantage to kick it into the long grass. Once the whole Me-Too movement calms down, he might get a fair trial at some point. I am alarmed at people’s bias against him because he is ‘privileged.’ And in favour of a woman that so far has no real proof that they even met. If she is making false allegations, time will unravel it. She has recently dropped her case against a different man. What she described does not sound anything like trafficking to me.
