Did Hitler order the Wafen SS to remove their cuffs with his name at the end of March 1945? What happened on that date on the Hungarian Front? How did Herman Göering, Himmler and Otto Günsche himself react to Hitler's anger with his elite divisions? What did Sepp Dietrich do when he received the Führer's message from him?
Next, in this program we are going to analyze everything that happened in relation to this order, whose event has been completely mythologized.

Hitler was totally out of touch with reality at this point and had very unrealistic expectations for his soldiers. His isolation and the drugs his Dr had him on made things worse. Considering the enormous odds they were up against, the German soldiers fought bravely.

Well, not really. 6th Panzer Army actually did have best equipment Germans could muster at the time. Including King Tigers and Panthers, which many regard to these days as best tanks of the war (heavy and medium) . They even had decent LW support which was rare this late in the war. And whole SS was based on idea of their superiority over Slavic Untermensch, belief that surviving members of SS (and Germans in general) held long after the war has ended. Plus, bulk of the Soviet forces was in East Prussia (modern Poland) . Therefore, they should have won, right ?

You REALLY think they had enough fuel to conduct such an operation? The tanks would've been out of fuel by the end of the first day.
@mohammadaminbehdarvandan603
@mohammadaminbehdarvandan603 2 ай бұрын
@RustyShackleford they had still vienna and balaton oil reserves at that time. And synthetic oil reserves. They could use those fuels that they wasted it in operation spring awakening or they used it for operation hannibal. Luftwaffe was still active in battle of berlin 1945. It shows that germany still had fuel even in April 1945.
@RustyShackleford
@RustyShackleford 2 ай бұрын
The Vienna reserves were fairly insignificant. The only substantial oil fields still under German control were Balaton, their synthetic fuel refineries were being heavily targeted by allied strategic bombing at that point (even the Soviets airforce was involved by that late stage in the war). Also, there is a major difference between having fuel in depots and having the logistical capacity to deliver said fuel to an area of operations - I don't deny that Germany had some petroleum/ersatz in some depots which had not yet been destroyed by strategic bombing, however the quantity of fuel required to conduct effective combined-arms operations by 1945 can only be described as: enormous. Apparently Tiger 1/2 tanks fuel consumpion = 1-2 mpg on the battlefield and even the lighter Panther tank used a similarly large amount of fuel compared to the much smaller early war Pz.II and III. Furthermore: Germany was unable to supply it's dwindling airforce with high-octane aero fuel and therefore, the Luftwaffe would not be able to provide effective air cover let alone close air support. It's true that the jet engined aircraft such as me-262 were able to operate using "less refined" fuel but we both know how few of those jets were in service. Certainly not enough to do the job... German ground forces would have been at a huge disadvantage operationally. The Soviets would have a massive advantage in recon and unlike the Germans, could conduct armoured movements that were wasteful on fuel (recon in force, etc) at will - by comparison, the German armour would have to conserve their supplies and follow a precise set-piece battle plan which would be inflexible. There is no doubt the German Panzer divisions were capable to stunning localised victories even in the final days of the war, however, they just did not have the material to conduct the grand operations that had won them such success earlier in the war. The failed attempt by the LSSAH to break the siege of Budapest is a prime example of this - they just did not have the staying power, the ability to keep a push going and smash through the enemy was no longer there. The men were courageous, highly skilled warriors - we all know that... and the fact that they were swept aside so easily is indicative of the overwhelming material advantage the allies enjoyed in 1945. German forces were still capable of tactical victories right up until the surrender, however strategic gains of any meaningful degree were simply beyond the capacity of the Wehrmacht/Waffen-SS. Not to mention the fact that skilled/experienced Panzer crews were being killed off and replacements were not available or if available, they were of much lower combat effectiveness than the men they replaced. There are multiple examples of Tiger tanks being lost on both fronts because the inexperienced crews panicked and showed their side/rear to the enemy rather than braving the enemy fire/keeping the glacis pointed at the enemy line of fire. The Soviets managed to kill Kurt Knispel. That says a great deal about Germany's armour in the late war - they were beleagured. Outnumbered, outgunned, over-stretched and doomed, despite their obvious individual superiority to their enemy. Beyond all that, the quality of the average German soldier had declined steeply by 1945. They were scraping the bottom of the barrel and the Soviets were not. I don't like that history took this path but it is what it is. After the failures at Stalingrad and Tobruk/El Alamein, Germany lost the ability to take the initiative. They were purely reactionary from that point, even the Battle of Kursk was purely reactionary - same with the Battle of the Bulge. The allies were calling the shots and had broken the German codes so they had an enormous advantage in intel - I suspect an operation the size that you describe would have been impossible to keep secret and would have been Kursk v2.0. Just my 2c@@mohammadaminbehdarvandan603

Ah the famous Armelstreifen controversy. Just one of many things that proved to the German people, that the war was lost and even "der fuhrer" himself had given up. It also shows how Hitler, blamed everyone but himself for the outcome of the war. Not an expert. Just a dual citizen DE/US, born and raised in Germany, now living in the US going on 30yrs. But like all Germans, we had family in the war, both in the SS and Wehrmacht etc. This event was a big thing at the time as told by many vets of the time, including some family members who again were in the SS and WSS. A great uncle is still alive and as a teen, served with the 12th SS pz div and he spoke of this as well and said it was a total betrayal by a man once admired as a god and loved by nearly everyone in Germany. But imo just another tyrant who stained our country forever and even split our family and many others to this day.

War itself is an atrocity but the SS's crimes are well documented as are the Soviet's. American ones less so due mainly because of their scarcity. I had an Uncle with the 101 Airborne in the the battle of the bulge when they heard about the Malmedy massacre they put their German POWs in slit trench and tossed grenades in with em. The Free French where particularly less inclined to take SS men as prisoners as well. Once you start shooting civilians and POWs that kind of thing causes retaliation. I can't judge men in combat who take such actions for my time in service was tense but relatively peaceful. Many a German soldier fought well and with honor and managed to do so and keep a clean conscience.

Sepp dietrich was considered a dullard by most of the German general staff, he was not a strategist. He was a long time close freind of Hitler, right back to the beer hall putch, but that did not make him a gifted general, rather, it made him a die hard national socialist whose commitment and loyalty could be relied upon. His men were deeply loyal to him, and he to them, but amongst their ranks the majority had not even blinked when murdering civilians in Russia, or pows in Normandy. On reading the telegram, dietrich knew the jig was up, he knew Hitler had no understanding of the realities of war, by issuing orders which simply could not be carried out or succeed. Happily, these forces were never put under the command of manstein, guderien, or heinrici.

Sometime the voice says 6th Panzer Army..and sometimes 6th SS Pamzer Army. The title SS was not applied until the beginning of April 1945.

For God’s sake, say “Viking!” in English, not “Week-ing”. Train your AI better. It’s annoying AF.

I’ll say nothing of the story in the video as although I knew of this, I didn’t pay too much attention to investigate beyond casual awareness. What I will mention is how sick and tired I am of listening to robotic voices narrating the video that are incapable of pronouncing names of divisions and many other names and words. It spoils the whole thing. I appreciate the German W as in Wiking is usually pronounced as V in Viking, but it is extremely irritating to the point where if I hear a robotic voice, I’ll discontinue watching the video.

The name Adolf Hitler on the patches reminds me of the name Donald Trump on the covid relief checks. Dictators loves their names spead around.

Please get a human narrator who is familiar with pronunciation. You do great historical work but the AI narration is absolutely shit.

What do I think? I think the utterly digusting mispronounciations by the computerized voice are so offensive that I am asking yt to never recommend this channel to me again.
