The Turrell skyspace at Rice University

The highly anticipated skyspace by famed American artist James Turrell does not open to the public until June 14, but Rice students, faculty and staff got a sneak preview May 5 during an exclusive Cinco de Mayo celebration for the Rice community.

Absolutely great.James has done it again.Will go and visit during my next trip to the USA. This skyspace has an additional dimension through the elevated roof.

Something has to allow people make exaggerated mental distortions of reality.... This is Spectacular! The world would be a horribly boring place if everything served a precise purpose. This Art piece creates an experience and it is difficult for some people to understand unless they have experienced it for themselves. Its ok though, not everyone will understand

Love the idea, but still too much monumental. It will be even more lovely if is was integrated into the surrounding landscape, more environmental, instead of being like a obelisk on the grass.

The commentary adds nothing. Let the work speak for itself, with narration explaining features not readily captured in a brief video. Spare us the yammering dweebs.
