@@gujikujtutu2330 Not sure if that's true. I'm a little rusty on the lore but I'm pretty sure middle earth was created for the humans and they looked at the problem with Sauron as something the humans should overcome. Even the elves were packing up and leaving middle earth. The wizards were sent to help but they took a very passive approach even choosing to be old men to look as non threatening as possible and only being able to use a fraction of there true power. Sure they would probly take care of Sauron eventually but I don't remember anything pointing to the Valar personally going to middle earth to stop Sauron.

@@gujikujtutu2330 The Last time the Valar became involved I believe the Isle of Numenor was sunken into the sea. That was just with Sauron attempting to take a stronghold of men. If the Valar got involved with the War of the Ring in a final effort to save Middle Earth, the Valar would win, but Middle Earth likely would've been destroyed in the process. So it really wouldn't have been saved. Sauron ruling over all of creation the way he was threatening to may have proven apocalyptic for Middle Earth had the Fellowship not succeeded.

The fuck do you mean it kills you? That you look down on him speaking in that gentle manner? Prick. Gandalf was talking softly the whole time, and obviously the whole time Aragorn was feeling doubt. Then worry and doubt when Gandalf brings up Frodo, but he reassures him by saying Sauron doesn't even expect it. He then restates the better odds that Frodo has a means of support. Everything leading up to that is a debrief and the softest way of assuring Aragorn, and he responded in a way consistent with the way anyone capable of reading the room would see, how the hell did you expect Aragorn to speak: "SHIT, SAM'S GOT HIS BACK BRO ALL GOOD", Gandalf would've been like - "You good, bro?".

It really is such a perfect scene. Gandalf the White, this super powerful being, exceptionally pleased that a fat gardener hobbit went his his hobbit employer on a secret mission to save the world. Gandalf knew the burden of Frodo and the importance of Sam being there, someone of a stout incorruptible spirit to share the burden. As someone who grew up with the books instead of the movies, I still find myself going back to this scene over and over because of the sheer impact of it. It's perfect.

I adore how much faith Gandalf has in Aragorn. In Moria, he knew he might have died so he told Aragorn to lead the fellowship (considering he took them to Lothlorien and assure safe passage AND let Frodo go in the end, he definitely did what Gandalf asked from him). The plan Gandalf had for saving Rohan was all leaning on the faith that Aragorn would keep them safe until he arrives with Eomer. Here he tells them Sauron fears the heir of Numenor, while talking to Theoden he mentions Sauron is afraid of the possibility that the men of middleearth uniting under the one banner which belongs to the descendant of Elendil. Here he makes a pep talk to him. It’s like even in the moments Aragorn chooses to stand back because of his fears from the past, Gandalf always knows his true potential and truly believes that he will fullfill his destiny one day.

I think Gandalf, with all his wisdom, has known from the start just how much Frodo and Sam care for each other, even before they themselves knew. He could always tell that they have a special bond which is the absolute antithesis of the Ring’s evil, and he realizes how much hope there is for Middle-earth just by their being together. All conveyed in 3 simple words: “Yes, very good.” Ian McKellen is a master actor.

Sam had a stout and incorruptible spirit, was stubborn and annoying at times. But Gandalf knew Sam was intensely loyal to his friend, Frodo. And Gandalf knows the key to it all is not selfishness, but selflessness. Frodo believes it is his burden to carry, which could lead him to corruption. Sam is an innocent gardener who has no desire for wealth or power. They are perfect together and Gandalf knows that. Sure, Gandalf is annoyed at Sam a lot as he is with the other hobbits for their seemingly flippant and naive behavior. But he's spent enough time with hobbits over the years (Saruman used to make fun of him for this) that he knows more about them than anyone else. He knows Frodo and Sam need each other. The movies don't show it, but Sam actually uses the Ring in the books to hide and rescue Frodo after Frodo's been captured on the borders of Mordor. The Ring takes a small hold on Sam at one point, but he dismisses his visions and delusions of grandeur as being just that. Sam was special in his innocence and loyalty.

out ofcuriosity, if the idea that the good guys wish to destroy the ring has not yet entered sauron's darkest dreams why would he fear what Aragorn could become? Aragorn himself could be very strong but Gondor and Rohan are weakened, the dwarves are under siege Loren and Mirkwood are under sttack from the East and Dol Guldur. Imrahil himself scoffs at the idea of marching on mordor saying that all that Gondor and rohan could muster after victory upon victory is little more than a vanguard compared to Gondor's armies of old. What could aragorn do that Sauron might fear beside destroy the ring? He can't hack his way to Sauron's throne room in barad Dur alone? Even if A wore the ring it would surely corrupt him or make him a puppet of Sauron, betray him like it did isildur? I'm nott sure even aragorn could master the ring surely that kind of control is reserved for the likes of Galadiel, Celeborn,Cirdan, Gandalf, Saruman (possibly) Dain,Durin the Deathless, Smaug, Tom Bombadil, Thranduil?

Sauron fears that Aragorn could use the Ring to overthrown him. He is not ordinary man, but direct descendant of Luthien and Melian the maia. How he would defeat him? We have no idea, since Tolkien was so vague when it comes to magic in Middle Earth. He did explained however that direct confrontation with Sauron was out of the question - the Ring would not act against his rightful master in his presence.
@peterp2153
@peterp2153 6 жыл бұрын
I think it’s intentionally left vague, since the exact mechanics of using the ring are left equally vague. We just know Aragorn becoming king and uniting men is important and that Sauron has it all mapped out for an overwhelming victory due to the size of his armies and the disarray of Men, so Aragorn challenging him makes it that much harder for Sauron until he gets his ring back.
@noone-xz4nt
@noone-xz4nt 4 жыл бұрын
You could also think of Sauron as a creature who leaves as little to chance as possible. Without Aragon returning to unite the free people of middle Earth Saurons victory is assured and will be quick. If Aragon does become king his chances drop down to like a 93% chance of victory, but it also guarantees a long grueling war. Also take note that Saurons goal is not to destroy middle Earth he just wants to become it's God basically. He is actually an extremely skilled diplomat and was willing to let all the people love under his rule of they agreed to be under his rule relinquishing all their weapons to him.
@davideagin5321
@davideagin5321 3 жыл бұрын
Read the books. Sauron was not Morgoth, Sauron was a deceiver and not a warrior. Hell, even WITH THE RING OF POWER he was defeated by Elendil (a king from Numenorean bloodline) and Gil-Galad (an Elven King). They didn't have any specific special magical powers or anything, but they killed Sauron in battle, just the two of them. They both died and that's when Isildur cut the Ring from Sauron's "dead" hand. You've got to understand that the Ring is not some kind of super weapon that makes you invincible, it simply makes some wearers feel that way so that it can get back to its master. The Ring magnified Sauron's power because he put his life force into it and it would allow him to control and manipulate all of the other rings of power, which would allow him to take control, in a sense, the elves and dwarves who still had their rings, and would make the Nazgul more powerful. Again, Sauron was a deceiver like Satan, not some kind of super-powerful warrior god like Morgoth. A lot of the people in Middle-Earth were isolationist. The Elves had retreated into the woods long ago, the Dwarves were obsessed with mining caverns and finding gold and mithril and other materials, basically stuck underground squabbling amongst themselves for metals. Hobbits were irrelevant according to almost anyone. But Humans seemed industrious and willing to spread out and find new lands and coalesce into kingdoms and build armies. Sauron especially feared the Numenorean bloodline because they were a royal, active group of people who had thwarted him for centuries. The Rangers had been squashing small incursions for years. He feared the re-establishment of a Numenorean ruler because he knew that people would follow this royal bloodline, the same bloodline that had made an alliance with the Elves and defeated his armies and killed him. Sauron underestimates Aragorn's resolve and believes Aragorn will use the Ring to become a supreme ruler and overthrow him as the ruler of Middle Earth. So when Aragorn uses the Palantir, the same one Pippen used, Sauron believes Aragorn has the Ring and had taken it from the Hobbit (Sauron only knows that a Hobbit has the Ring, not which one in particular). Aragorn and Gandalf and the armies, what's left of them anyway, march to the Black Gate after the Siege of Minas Tirith because they make a calculated gamble that Frodo is still safe and continuing his journey (if Sauron had the Ring, they think they would have known by now). So they march to the northern Black Gate of Mordor to distract Sauron from Frodo and Sam plodding their way to Mount Doom in hopes that Sauron believes Aragorn has the Ring and that it will draw out the entirety of Sauron's army in Mordor to face them there, giving Frodo and Sam enough time to destroy the Ring. It works and Mordor clears out, Frodo and Sam make it to Mount Doom and the Ring is destroyed.

Dead? It is a cruel world and it is a miracle that Merry and Pippin survived the orcs. Home? If Frodo pulled off his escape, alone?

Perhaps this is explained better in the books, but if not with Frodo, then where on (Middle-)Earth does Gandalf think Sam has gone? Surely he would have had the decency to inquire about Mr. Gamgee's absence if he thought that the young Hobbit had died at some point between events in Moria and the Fellowship's fragmentation?

So what he's an heir of Numenor and can call the shots at Gondor? The Steward can do that too if he wanted to even if Aragorn weren't a King, and he's just a man.

Not if the people switch their loyalty to the true king. Especially since Denethor has gone off the deep end and has become corrupted. Its not hard to see why the soldiers of Gondor would turn on him when a real leader, a real king, shows up.

So... where did Gandalf THINK Sam was before he learned that? And why didn't he care?
@vehx9316
@vehx9316 4 ай бұрын
I would think that Gandalf thought that Frodo would have left without telling Sam or let Sam go with him, as is in his nature. Gandalf knew of this when Frodo told him in Hobbiton that he was willing to leave Bag End alone with the Ring to protect it.

The scene makes alot more sense in the books. PJ kept the dialog but he changed the timing around so that Gandalf looks kinda dumb.

He can’t be the heir to Númenor though. Elendil was distantly related to a king I think but very diluted. He was a petty lord.
@vehx9316
@vehx9316 4 ай бұрын
Elendil was the Lord of Aduinale of Numenor, whose first lord was descended from the eldest daughter and child of the third King of Numenor, he is not "petty" by any means. The Lords of Aduinale were all kinsman of the royal family.
