Today I'd like to tell you about the Coraline game. Yes, there is a video game based on the movie. It came out a little bit earlier than the cartoon. And it's pretty much official. I mean, it's supposedly canonical.
Not to say that I'm a gamer, and in general I almost never play video games, but in this case, I was curious about it. After first looking at the screenshots of the game, I refused to play it or read any information about it. But one summer day I suddenly wanted to see what the game was about. And boy, oh boy. I shouldn't have done that.

I actually own this game. I think I found it either at in a walmat clerence section or a Good Will (Thrift Store) However, I still haven't finished the game. I highly doubt I ever will lol.

To be fair I'm sure LAIKA simply licensed the Coraline IP to the two game studios that made the game and didn't actually have any input in the development of it. And considering the game came out right around the film, it's likely the game was developed & finished before the film was completed. So yeah, the game devs probably saw it as a cash grab and threw something together not knowing how successful the Coraline IP would become.

Ok but like, I have that game and it's (in my opinion) really fun despite how ugly it may look, the fact they didn't bother adding a shadow when Coraline picks up a box, and how crap the voice acting can be at times (don't get me started on the mother and other mother's voice acting). I've beaten the game I think a total of 16 times already with and without using the cheat codes. It's an ugly game but the controls are easy and it even adds things that the movie didn't have like nightmare sequences where the other world's true colors are shown and it even shows the visit Coraline had with miss Spink and Forcible that lead her to the well in the beginning

The game has a lot of similarities to the book and the movie, it's disappointing that they didn't do their homework before the video, but not surprising considering a lot of people don't know about the book much less read it

Yeah, I have played a PS2 game. No, I don't know anything about programming. I agree that it looks alright for a PS2 game. I was talking more about the plot, gameplay, and stuff. And I was comparing its quility to the movie, which probably wasn't right.

I actually saw the movie first, and then played the game. Yeah, the game was made just to promote the movie pretty much, but I've played through the game many times, just because it's based on Coraline. Interestingly, there's also a DS version that somehow looks better, and follows the plot of the movie a little better.

To be honest you can’t really blame the developers considering they probably had a low budget. Movie games are usually made to gain more profit which is why something like the Madagascar game is so low quality

i was thinking off getting the game actually but i didn’t know much about it besides some play throughs online not mention it is an expensive game to buy of ebay i definitely won’t now thanks!

i vividly remember playing this game in a restaurants kids' play area (Back when restaurants had those), I genuinely thought that I'd made it up for years cause I never saw or heard of it again, I'm glad it is real and I'm not going crazy! I don't remember it being good, though I only played for maybe 10 minutes before my family came to get me. I probably won't play it cause just from those clips it looks so tedious lol

From my knowledge, mobile console versions are different than the typical consoles. I played both the Transformers movie (2007) video game as well as the sequel. Both are completely different games on the Play Station vs. PSP. I also saw that that Teen Titans game for PlayStation was entirely different that the Nintendo 64 version. (I believe it was 64, I just know it was a Nintendo console)

I love this game how dare you the ds version looks like a kid made it, the music was the only reason why people like it because it fits with Coraline you have no taste

The game looks and feels nothing like the movie. It looks like some cheap game that you'd find in a walmart game bin and the graphics look outdated for its time and the gameplay looks boring as hell. The game is nothing compared to the movie itself which is a complete masterpiece (are you kidding!) and I wouldn't consider it canon.
