Thanks for this latest video. The way you continue to produce plants in the garden even in February is amazing. Its autumn (fall) here in Australia now and our winter will come mid year. No snow here though. We received 609ml of rain In January and more last night. Most unusual but the dams are filling and overflowing. Hugs to you both.

We love having a garden that's alive even in the winter, at least a little bit. We're trying to keep it diverse by planting more different kinds of plants, so hopefully it'll be even better in the future 😊 That's a lot of rain you got! We get about 500 mm annually!

Hello Ron, you're up north in Australia, are you? We had unusually good rain over summer but certainly nothing like 600ml in a month! Just be very lush wherever you are, which I expect is the tropics.

Glad you enjoyed the video! We want our garden to be alive all year long, so we're intentionally planting some plants that either stay green in winter, bear fruit in winter, or flower in winter. There aren't many of them, but it's better than nothing 😁

I had witch hazel on my list for a couple of years, but I kept delaying it because for some reason it's more expensive than other shrubs and trees. But I'm so glad we planted it. Looks like we'll have to buy also the orange and yellow varieties at some point 😁

You guys are so ambitious with all you have going on. The strudel looked wonderful and your wine was interesting. Just when I needed a dose of T&P…up one popped! Lovely. You brightened my day by showing that even in ugly February beauty can be found all around, tucked away in corners of nature. Really liking Peter’s new-ish haircut, it suits you. 😀 However, (😉) one pronounces these two plants as “strorbriz’ and ‘baz’l’. By now you know I’m a stickler for these matters, boys! As for that hole that Tommy was digging…I was getting worried for poor Peter’s future. Such relief when its actual use was revealed! Looking forward to next time. Greetings from your pal in Ireland, Stefan x

So absolutely lovely to have a new video from T&P ❤ My favourite flower is a snowdrop. So simple yet such beauty in winter bitten environments. Such a joy to see them in your garden. Such a good idea to build a pond. I would love one but we have so many frogs here. Two years ago it was like a biblical plague...and I'm a little stupidly scared by frogs lol. I couldn't bring myself to go to the bottom of the garden in the dark 😮...I fear a pond will attract all the frogs in the area 😂 I think I need to try to make your apple strudel soon. It looked delicious....but the squash saw made me laugh Peter! 😂😂

We love seeing snowdrops because it means other flowers are not too far behind, and we're so excited to see all of them 😊 Haha, we were telling each other a few days ago how the pond could attract frogs, but in our case, we thought that would be really cool 😀

Hello chaps , Yes! your garden looks like it's lacks plants that could keep it looking inviting during the winter months , I'm surprised that you don't have a host of different evergreens in your large garden ,such as laurels : red Robin which adds vibrant colour , then there is buberi which comes in many charming shades , holly also has many varieties, Love your recipes, you always seem to be so happy on cam , and live cosy lives ,
@tommyandpeter
@tommyandpeter 5 ай бұрын
Hi Thomas, thank you 😊 We plant various shrubs, also some evergreen ones. But they grow slowly and in the big garden it's not very visible. We have planted more than 700 shrubs by now. We have around 20 cherry laurels and also some other ones you mentioned. Anyway, it will never look good here in winter. We just need to wait for the warmer half of the year when everything is green and colorful 😁

Hello guys. Well, it might make you feel somewhat better about your 'ugly February' to know that it isnt such a great month here in Australia either! Its the end of our summer and do things are mostly hot, dry and brown, with there being an ever-present danger of bushfire. To be fair, our summer here in South Eastern Australia has been mild (again) but we still have hot and horrid days. Today was one, actually. Look forward to seeing how your little pond comes along. I have a video somewhere on my channel of a pond we made a few years back, which we still have. Probably about same size as one you are creating too. Its a great addition. 😊

Hi Richard, thanks, that makes us feel better that also elsewhere February is not that great 😀 Too hot and dry doesn't sound good. Good that your summer has been mostly mild. We'll take a look at your pond later, always nice to see how others do it 😉😊

That wind sounded wicked! Tommy, I’m glad you explained the hole you were digging. I was getting concerned it was a grave and we were all going to be an accomplice to some secret crime!😳😁😂. The streusel and walnuts looked yummy! You two are a great team! Tommy the gardener who grows the fruits, vegetables and nuts and Peter the cook/baker who turns them into deliciousness! A question for you guys that you may have answered in a previous video, how old is your farm house and do you ever plan to raze and rebuild the house? I know you guys are far from retirement age, but it looks like a beautiful area to set up a permanent home once you do retire. Then again, with the traveling you do, maybe you have found a favorite location you would love to move to when the time is right. Just curious. As always, I enjoyed the video very much! Take care! Hugs!

Hi, liked your video. When you would like to have more 'green' in your garden during the winter, I can recommend the following plants: Winter Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) with lovely yellow flowers in the wintertime, European Holly (Ilex aquifolium) with red berries which birds like, Common Juniper (Juniperus communis) for making Jenever (Dutch Gin) and the Common Privet or European Privet (Ligustrum vulgare). All these you will find them in a lot of varieties. And a lot of wildlife (birds, insects, etc.) will like them, to eat, to nest in, and so forth. Well, see you later, and have a nice day.
@tommyandpeter
@tommyandpeter 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions! We planted a winter jasmine last year, so we're hoping to see it flowering for the first time very soon 😊 Common privet is quite popular here - a lot of people have privet hedges. We have a few as part of our diverse hedge.
@nuxgl
@nuxgl 3 ай бұрын
Hi @@tommyandpeter , yes, I saw the Winter Jasmine in a later video. I have one in a pot next to the front door of my house (facing the Northeast) and it's doing well and it blooms every year but it stays small. Yours have a lot of space to grow so I'm curious to see how it will develop in the future. Today I got your email in which you mentioned the cold and the impact it will have on the fruit harvest. If possible you can spray the fruit trees and bushes with water. The ice on the flowers and flower buds will protect them from the cold. And thanks to you I know what Privet means in Privet Drive in Harry Potter. ;-) I only know the names of the plants in my own language so I had to search for the English names. Well, hope you are doing well and see you later ! 🙃

Hi guys, underneath that dead look there is latent life waiting for its moment in time. So "don't judge a book by its cover". As one of the first flowers of the spring, in that part of the world where you live, the snowdrops simbolize hope, new beginnings, rebirth. Here they are called "campanillas blancas". My house is very old too, over 100 years old and some of the problems similar to yours were solved successfully with plaster coverings. Sweeties, yesterday was Valentine's day so I wish you all the happiness your heart can hold and so much more. Until next time.

Oh, my goodness!! When I first saw Tommy digging in the garden, I was afraid the little dog had finally made you angry enough - and Tommy was digging grave (joking)… But perhaps the little fellow (he’s so adorable) will now have his very own little pond to play and cool off in during the hot summer days… Maybe??? :):):):):) And Peter’s beautiful sweaters - he wears them well… Please be careful with the moisture that is “hidden” within the walls and floors of the old house. Yes, I’m sure there is mold there - and most of it you cannot see - lots of it.. It is very dangerous to your health and can cause many health problems for you now and in the future - even when you are no longer near it. Please use a mask when removing material that may have mold in it…!!!!!! Ah, with all due respect, gentlemen, but I did not see your garden as cold and dead. Quite the contrary, I saw in it still two lovely and special “roses” that continue to bloom and share the beauty of their love and uniqueness to the world - a fragrance most tender - giving hope to those now living and those yet to be born…. Thank you on behalf of so many..!!! Love and respect from Yakima - always!
@tommyandpeter
@tommyandpeter 5 ай бұрын
Haha, that would a really big grave for the small dog 😀 You don't have to worry about mold in the walls. These brick and stone walls are different to the wooden ones that you have in the US. There is no mold inside, it can't grow there. It can grow on the surface of the wall, but if that's the case you can always see it. So here, it was ok 😉 Aww, so nice that you could see something pretty in the dead garden 😁 We are looking forward to real colorful roses 😊 Thank you very much 😉

Hi Wayne, Kolachi (or koláče as you would say in Czech) come from our country, but they are different to what you have in mind. If you are interested, you can watch our video how we prepared them here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7V1frSqxsi3maM.html Strudel (comes from Austria) might look similar to other traditional pastry and that is the poppyseed roll. But the dough is completely different to the strudel one and there are no apples in the filling. If you'd like, you can watch in this video (second half): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fq6GpqVekry-pp8.html
