Thank you. Well done video. Often wondered if a Lance 650 on a Toyota Tundra were a match.
@-ellimist-

They are NOT a match. Even the highest Tundra payload (4x2 with no options) won't legally handle the wet weight of this truck camper. I really hate to say this given that it really is a sweet lookin' setup, but I'm 100% certain he's over the truck's payload. My family has a Limited trim double cab 2012 Tundra and it's payload is 1421 lbs, and there's no way a stripped down trim of it would have a payload in excess of 2,000 lbs let alone the 2,300+ lbs of payload that I esimate this setup is necessitating. I'm sure Toyota's is being extremely conservative with the truck's capabilities and the truck really can handle what his doing in most circumstances, but as it stands Toyota's legally underestimated the capabilities of the truck which means if police or insurance or lawyers get involved in the event of an accident or other incident then it'll all be on the poster of this YT video. And I sincerely hope it's only him that it comes down on and it isn't at the cost of anyone else.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video! I am about to pull the trigger on a nice used 2018 650. I have an F350 Tremor I will be putting it on. I was torn between the Lance 825 and the 650. For some reason…the idea of the camper overhanging the bumper doesn’t sit well with me. It complicates towing, bike racks, etc. Functionality would be better, with a larger bathroom in the 825. But the pros of the 650 outweigh the 825 for me. I have gone into the 650 bathroom…and damn it is tight! I am 6’5”…250 pounds. For indoor showers I will be sitting down on the toilet I imagine. And for actually using the toilet…I will have to do yoga first to get limber!:) Small inconveniences for what I suspect will be a great setup for my wife, dog, and me. I rewatched your video a few times looking for an idea of how tall you are….the interior height is absolutely amazing to me. I think to get something close, you have to go into the ginormous campers. Looking for ideas on increasing exterior storage…boxes on the back, rooftop storage, etc. Anyway…thanks again. Lucky dogs!

825 has walk on roof, 650 does not; that and 650 not being a 4 season are deal breaker for me. Im currently on truck camper #3, the Lance are great and prolly goin back to one after starting with an 815 many years ago. They’re all so mission dependent, but creature comforts of a Lance are hard to beat bang for buck, especially with a gf or wife along for the journey etc. But yeah, walk on roof is huge to me considering maintenance on solar, roof racks, and just sundowner hangout spot. Lightweight comes at a cost and the 650 are still excellent rigs, I’ll be goin 825 though for that and true 4 season rig.

Thanks for the response! My time with the 650 was short lived…I literally used it for one long trip, and quickly learned that it wasn’t for me. I literally just ordered a 2024 Scout Kenai…I like how light it is and open on the inside with considerable storage. Hopefully, this will be the last one I buy…

This is super epic. I think you got the ratios just right. I don't understand the appeal of putting on a big fancy camper shell onto the V6 Tacoma-not enough torque unless you mod the engine like crazy. You'd be getting the same MPG as the V8 Tundra with much less power. Keep on adventuring! Have fun in your awesome rig man!

What did you do to increase the payload to hold 2000+ lbs?
@matthewyarbrough1056
@matthewyarbrough1056 Жыл бұрын
You can’t increase the payload/GVRW in America. In other countries you can. But I got a completely stripped down model. Way under 2k. It’s not 4 season either so much lighter. I pulled stuff off the truck and camper. Rear seat, tailgate, agm battery etc. Then I added airbags and tow/haul shocks. I basically don’t even notice it. Carries is no problem. 3 years with this set up.

@westernsharpie
@westernsharpie Жыл бұрын
Ya unfortunately it is. The standard Lance weighs about 2300 pounds wet, probably even more. Tundra payload is 18-1900 max. Yes you can add air bags, this and that to make it ride better but that doesn't change the legal payload capacity of it. I have the same problem. I have a Tundra dbl cab, but legally here in Canada you can't exceed the trucks GVWR as per DOT regulations. I'm sure it's like that in the US too. I know a few guys that are CVSE officers and they warn people all the time that if you get into an accident and they prove you've exceeded the trucks GVWR it's not gonna be good for you. The dealerships know this but it's not their responsibility what you buy. Sure is a beautiful set up. Not many options for campers for Tundras. These are solid campers though.

@matthewyarbrough1056 Жыл бұрын
So my Lance is a 2017. It’s totally stripped down and weighs in at 1657 lbs. It’s not a 4 season. With the weight off the truck it’s probably very close. I haven’t weighed it. I wish you could add payload like in other countries but the fed dot doesn’t have a program for that. All I know is it drives like it isn’t even there.

So the one I have is custom ordered and very stripped down. I took some weight off the truck too. But I see plenty of Tundra’s with the Lance 825 which is much heavier. I have airbags and Falcon adjustable tow/haul shocks and it’s honestly like it’s not even there.

I removed the factory 26 gallon tank and installed a Tranferflow 46 gallon tank. But it was 3k! A good option is a used tank off a newer Tundra. They are 38 gallons I think and they cost $100 at a junk yard. Hope that helps.
