I finally decided it was time to build an proper anvil stand. Unfortunately i've come to find out that most floors/surfaces are not truly level. By going with 3 legs you can eliminate wobbling. I splayed the legs at 10 degree angles. This was a very fun build, that only took about a day and a half.

FIREEEEE, I got a additional idea for it, how bout adding a frame on the bottom with some casters on it, that is on a hinge. drop it down and when it locks into place it raises the stand up and you can roll it instead of lift. then when you want to use it you raise the casters up.

That is a great idea, but also sounds like a lot of work---I actually needed to get this done quick so I can use it to finish a customer build. I've seen some mobile base builds out there that are pretty neat--maybe someday!

How to take something as mundane as a metal stand and make a work of art out of it. Love the finish, the leather work. Very well done! May be copying this fir my anvil……👍

Once again, showing us your willingness to work in different mediums, using differing techniques. What did you fill the legs with? Was it sand, or did you use a metal oxide for the extra weight, it seemed very dark? Scorched wood seems to be your jam, it's ZH AF. Awesome project, hopefully this means we will see some forging videos coming out of ZH in the future. thanks for posting.
@ZHFabrications
@ZHFabrications 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, I used sand in the legs. The natural wood just didn't look right on the stand, and I didn't really want to stain it. And you will absolutely see some forging videos soon!

It is very well done, it is a great shop anvil stand!! Now for the but, but how much does it weigh? Most anvils are used not by blacksmiths but by farriers, who need to lift it in and out of their pickup trucks.
@ZHFabrications
@ZHFabrications 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, It's the perfect weight for a mobile stand in my opinion, maybe ~70-80 lbs?
@kcubs222
@kcubs222 7 жыл бұрын
wow, that is a lot, especially if you do 12-15 shoes a day at four to five different location, along with a 95lb to 125 pound anvil. My wife's mobile stand is now 29.5 pound (I weighed it, because I built her last one and she wanted lighter) I like your design for the shop because it is strong, stable and is could easily be mistaken for a fine piece of furniture. Keep up the good work and keep producing easily to follow videos

Looks good but I think the hammer holders should be brackets instead of the loops. It would be more usefull if the handles were up and you didn't have to get you hands on the hamme rheads themselves to get them out.

Thats a beautiful design, video and execution. The only thing I dont like is the two L brackets holding the anvil in place. If you could find a 2-3" thick board hollow out the anvil shape slowly sanding to match the angles then add your bolts through. The whole thing could match the board underneath. Maybe even with a strip of that sheet metal on top to protect it from hot metal. I think the double use of wood would help eliminate noise even more. Just an idea.
