One hundred percent agree with you the second I used it everything was perfect, power, gear inputs, and everything it offers is perfect for beginners. My MSF course let us used them.

Been riding my g 310 r for 3 years. I have been riding bikes for 36 years. I've owned small farm bikes, big cruizers, 1000 cc sportbikes, adventure bikes and I have been racing motocross for 10 years. What I have learned through the years of having fun on the road with bikes and seeing people dying around me: you don't need bigger bikes to ride on public roads, you don't have to be a beginner to ride these small capacity bikes. Big engines get you in situations you don't want to be in. If you want to go faster, do it on tar and dirt tracks. 99% of people cruising at 90 miles an hour think they can ride and handle their bikes, but they simply can't, years of luck has given them false confidence. In my years of track experience (tar and dirt) I have seen seasoned riders with big bikes that looked like 3 year olds when they get on dirt bikes. Stay safe, enjoy the ride and not the speed. You have no safety belts or air bags, you are on a bike...

simillar to yourself.. i was a bike courier in uk for 10 years.. thats on a bike ALL DAY EVERYDAY for 10 years in all conditions..winters etc.. i still ride trials, have done moto-x.. grasstrack..owned heaps of bikes over the years.. stopping at a 98bhp bmwr1100 ... that was enough i kept riding it too fast and it was just a sport tourer not a race rep.. im slowlee working my way back DOWN the biking tree... and have realised in my older age.. the smaller bikes really ARE much more fun to ride... i have 300 scooter for general work/shop/local.. and i will be selling my nc700x for one of these bmw's 310... the perfect combo of weight/speed/mpg .... nice one

I am so happy you posted this. I won the 2021 version of this bike a year and 3 months ago in a contest but did not ride it until like 4 months ago by myself because I did not have money for a motorcycle course and also wanted to buy all my gear before taking that course.

@@MiguelMedV Yes! Just came up on my 1 year anniversary of riding with the G310R! It’s a very good beginner motorcycle. Very light and easy to handle, inspires confidence and encourages you learn something new everyday. I use it to commute to work as my main mode of transportation now. I do mostly around town/city riding. No traffic for me! It’s so nice to fill up with 7$ a week vs 140$ when I drove my truck. The gas savings alone for two weeks pays for the bike. I would highly recommend it to any beginner rider!

I’m very used to smaller motors. They are very happy hanging out at 80-90% of max rpm for hours. I took my 250 from Miami to dc and back many times and sitting between 75 and 80 mph for many hours just made it happier. I don’t get why people say you need more power to ride on the highway.

I wonder the same. Highways are for cruising, not racing. I don't need a lot of speed, I just need enough to keep up and not cause problems for other road users by being too slow or too fast.

@@thetrustysidekick3013 It's the street rossis that say they need all the power they can get. Let's be honest you don't need 200hp bikes. They want to be land missiles because it's cool so that's why there's always a need for more power. Those who understand there's a time and place for everything are perfectly content with a machine like this. I was a street rossis but I know the truth.

This is my first bike and I absolutely love it. Glad you posted this. The only issues i had with this bike is my height vs my newbie status, and the fact that the kickstand bolt was installed without lock tight and was lost mid ride. (may want to check that on a new purchase) we were able to easily bring back the handlebars with a handlebar riser for extra throttle control in turns and improved posture. The boys also installed a lowering link which allowed for two inches of play. Im much closer to flat footing at 5’4” and this made large improvements to my confidence at stops. The wet weight is about 350, (which once we practiced how to properly lift) was an easy lift for me. Upgrades were less than $300 and well worth it in my opinion, i had no idea how much better the bike could fit me and I absolutely love the ride.

I ride motorcycles since my childhood and I own also big bikes, but I really love my BMW G310 GS (basically the G310R in GS configuration) Totally awesome bike. I took the G310 GS on a 2000km trip through Switzerland, Italy, France and simply loved it.

Your insight and advice are SPOT ON! I have had my Motorcycle Endorsement for over 50 Years, and I am STILL learning! I'm 69 Years young and have a Gixr 250. It IS a nice and fun little Bike, but I think I WOULD like the extra 8 Horses this Beemer would provide. There are NO freeways where I live, but on open stretches of 2 Lane Blacktop, the 250 is a little weak, LOL! I started riding when I was 14, and at 18, I took my Endorsement test ride on a Honda CB 750. At my age, however, I'm now partial to the smaller, lighter machines. That being said, put me on a 650 and I will do just fine.

I bought this bike as my first bike and I love it. I alternate between my g310r and my brother’s s1000xr every other day and I’m not sure which one I like better :) both are fun, and each one has its own advantages. This bike does everything I need, and with 17T front sprocket and an aftermarket windshield it’s pretty decent on the highway - 65mph (104 kmh) at 6000rpm!

I pretty much have to ride my Duke 390 at WOT in the twisties, been riding it for a year and hit the limits of it's acceleration and speed a while ago. It's not a bad thing tho, now I don't have to think about the throttle I can work on other skills more, like vision and trail braking. It is not my first bike nor my fastest bike, but this is the first bike where I practice basic skills and try to learn how to ride for real.

This is my very first motorcycle. I got it last summer and love to ride it except on highways if I’ll be on it for more than 15 mins as mentioned in the video because of the rpms being constantly high, it just gets annoying to have the bike screaming all the time. I think if you ride more on the highway, a 500cc should be perfect. Other than that, it’s a phenomenal bike. Very predictive power band, good center of gravity, positioning, great brakes, and looks very cool.

This is a really fun bike! I bought this for my girl as her first bike and it is incredibly fun and easy to ride. A common mod for these is replace the stock 16 tooth sprocket with a 17 tooth sprocket, it helps make the first 3 gears more useful and on the highway lowers the revs just enough to make it so the little single isn't revving its brains out. The only bad thing about this bike is that there are very few aftermarket levers and foot controls, end up having to order some dubious parts from China. Despite that we're still happy with the bike because it is just such a very easy and fun bike for a beginner to learn on, but also engaing enough for an experienced rider to have fun on. The R is a little small for me though, 5'9 34inch inseam, but for my girl 5'5 32 inch inseam the bike is a perfect fit. I think for taller riders the 310 GS would be a great choice, I test rode one of those and its size felt much more comfortable.

Such a good review considering this is the 2020 model, I mean the new one is so much better, the bike doesent vibrate much, the design is upgraded to look even better, all LED lights with beautiful DRLs inspired by Bmw s1000r and the same indicators as the s1000r.

I bought a 2019 310r brand new. It taught me everything. I put 38,000 miles until the engine stopped working. Great bike to learn on but not to put miles on. I now am happily in love with bmws f900xr which I think is the next best upgrade.

This bike is excellent!! Great review. I’m a returning rider and took safety course on one. I didn’t like the body position at first but you are right , felt super integrated to bike and loved it after two days. I also own a Guzzi 1100 . Thinking about adding one of these as a second fun, capable bike. I loved it.

I just bought one today! 2023 G 310 R. Walked into the dealership and never thought I would own a BMW motorcycle. The dealership in Long Beach had such an insane deal because I took the MSF course on the otherside of the 405. less than 800 miles, $500 towards gear they have in store, $350 mail in rebate, total out the door... $4,712.70... I pick it up today or tomorrow. im so excited, I cant wait!!! woooo!! taking the dirt bike course in Azusa next! yea baby! Going all in with this life!

I was getting some road time in on my MT07 today before the bad weather sets in. It is a blast on the back roads. I did find myself exceeding the speed limit very easily. I could have had just as much fun on a Ninja 400 and have saved myself about 3k if I had bought that instead. I often wonder if I could have had more fun on the Ninja then on the MT07. Now I might see about renting a Ninja 400 and seeing what it would be like.

Z400 is a street bike comparison to Mt 07 (mt03 direct competitor), not ninja400. Mt07, z400 - street/naked. N400 - sportbike, different thing, different seating position, less upright

My dream bike ❤❤❤ only problem is that even if BMW and TVS brought it to Uganda it would be too expensive but this is a great collaboration between those 2 giant manufacturers. My first bike was a TVS so I believe you when you say the bike is solid. Best of all where I live I don't see how this bike would be described as small but like I said if TVS would dare ( through Yvaraj ) the price would be the problem but then again the Duke 300 were all bought out ... Eventually good stuff though👍👍👍👍

Most forgiving clutch too! Engine braking is so mild -except 1st gear. Get to 8 mph shift to 2 and fuggedaboutit

I got this bike after seeing a previous video of yours about best first bikes for beginners. I test drove or sat in majority of the ones in your list and somehow this one just fit like a glove. Then I got a end of summer sale that made it less than 5000 euros with 5 years guarantee. It's been an amazing bike and super forgiving! I'm glad I didn't follow my ego and bought a bigger one, even thought I have an A license. This bike is all I need for my commute and the 3 or 4 long road trips I do in a year.

idk if this is the best beginner bike.. I personally loved my svartpillen 401 as a beginner bike and its the most bang for your buck in the beginner bike catagory. it comes with an up and down quick shifter and fully adjustable front forks. its also an incredible amount of fun being a scrambler type with a very capable engine. I kinda wish I went with an MT07 for my first street bike..but maybe its best I didn't

Vitpilen 401 is my first bike, and i bought it even with friends telling me it will be too slow and what not... needless to say i made the BEST DECISION EVER ! And even friends who tried to sway me,.. after riding it LOVE IT , and have a 10 mile smile after. Surprising little bike and still can get out of its own way.

For me when i say i need more power for the highway, it's less about needing to be about to accelerate out of situations and more about being able to maintain those highway speeds for a long time. FL highways flow around 80mph, and even though this bike can do that, i can't imagine going 90 minutes just commuting one way to work is gonna be any good for it...

I went with the mt07 as my "beginner bike". To be fair, I grew up riding dirtbikes, so it was more a beginner bike as far as riding on the pavement. I'm ultimately super happy I opted for a more powerful bike. My favorite thing to do on a motorcycle is explore. Having enough power to be comfortable on the highway at a variety of speeds without wringing out the engine is pretty important to me. I know these smaller bikes can totally do highway speeds. I just don't like feeling like I'm really pushing the engine for long periods of time to keep up a reasonable highway speed. Mechanical sympathy and all that. I have a sense that I could easily ride this bike for the next 10 years and never feel like it needs more power.

@@SoulEraser000 For sure. I guess the one concern with buying an expensive bike for your first bike is that you might not get into it and lose a lot of money on the resale. However, the mt07 is pretty cheap :)

I did a 300km highway ride on this bike and I swear it feels better afterwards. I agree that going at 110km/h or 120km/h is not the speed this bike prefers to be at, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I was ready to leave the highway and do country roads the moment it felt too tiring, but it didn't happen.

Got to agree with Fast Eddie. I was going to get a bigger machine for my first bike but took Fast Eddie’s (and other KZfaqr’s) advice and went for a smaller, lighter, cheaper bike. Ended up getting a BMW G310 GS on a model run-out deal. (Rego & insurance was half that for a bigger bike.) No regrets. I’m 6’2” and 95kg and the GS fits me perfectly. You won’t win a drag race with an enthusiastic driver at the lights but it easily keeps up with regular traffic up to 100 km/h (62 mph) although it’s sweet spot is 60 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph). Being light without a heap of power makes for a very forgiving machine and provides confidence when practising skills in the parking lot. I will get a more powerful bike at some stage for highway touring but for now the G310 is perfect for this new rider.

If you rode dirt bikes then you have better skills than a total beginner. Maybe more skills than bikers who rides only on pavement.

Some info on the European licenses: A1: 125cc 1cylinder, 15hp /11kW (16y/o where I live) A2: 35kW (47hp) or up to 95hp factory restricted to 47hp (18y/o where I live) A: full license, all motorcycles (requires 2 years experience with A2) I live in Spain. While the motorcycles you can drive with each license are the same, the required age to get the license varies within each country. If you restrict a 95hp bike to 47hp you can unlock the power back to 95hp when you get your A license, making motorcycles such as an MT-07 a viable option for the A2. This is the reason why many manufacturers have stuck with 95hp bikes such as the CBR650R. Other manufacturers have "limitable" variant of their bike, for example the 121hp 890Duke has a 890 Duke L variant which has only 95hp, so it can be limited to the 47hp required on the A2 license.

Old license rules in Finland, when i get 1984 (18years old=, get car (B license) get automatic AB whit out any power limits, or motorcykle history. And last summer i just buy my first bike Kawasaki er-5, and driwe 2000km before winter break.

I have a 310r in the garage. It was my first road bike. I grew up riding dirt bikes and thought that the 310 would be perfect for a beginner bike. And while it is, if you have any prior experience on 2 wheels, you will be begging for more, like I did. I had the 310 for about 3 months then decided to grab a Trident 660. Double the HP, and Torque and I think its the perfect amount. (was gonna go MT07 but couldn't find one and ended up really liking the triumph finish). I ended up passing the 310 to my brother in law with 0"" 2 wheel experience. Completely taught him how to ride with the 310. So that's where I think it really shines. It truly is a beginner bike/commuter but not a long term bike if you're into really getting on the throttle. If BMW made a middleweight bike a G650r, that would be a killer bike. Great review and talking sense. I have just ridden a 2022 BMW G310R 8736 miles on a trip across Australia. The bike was fault free and averaged 3.0 Litres per 100km. Dealership experience from BMW Australia was superb. I'm 6' 0"", 80kg and this proved such a great little bike that I am seriously considering buying another. Try one, you might buy It!

Hi Fast Eddie! I've been binging on your videos for the past few weeks, I just got my G310R a couple of weeks ago as my first bike and I'm loving it! I know it's great to learn and perfect for commuting; however, I wanted to take it to visit some friends in Tucson which is 4h away and although you made it seem fine for a few minutes on the highway, I'm not sure if it would mess the bike up a little bit if I ride at 70mph for 4h up there and 4h back at a time. I will obviously wait 6 months or so and practice shorter distances first, I just want to know if I will need to get another bike when I intend to do those trips because I'll have to save a lot more! I was planning on upgrading to an F900R or F750/850 GS in 2 years after I finish paying this one. I'd appreciate your advice!

What about someone who's 6"1 and 190 lbs? Would this be too small? I had a Yamaha R6 but sold it because I feel I'm too old for Sport bikes now at 44, but I do regret selling it because I miss riding. I don't want to spend thousands on a Harley either. I just want a back and 4th to work bike and around town riding.

The specific rules on how long and until what age you're limited to an A2 motorcycle differ from country to country, but yes, limited to 48hp (35kw, so I guess that's where the confusion came from).

0:45 nope. In Europe we have 3 Motorcycle licenses, A1, A2 and A. A1 - meant for 18 year olds. Can ride up to 15kw of power. A2 - meant for 20 year olds. Can ride up to 35kw (roughly 48 horsepower) of power. A - meant for 24 year olds. Unrestricted. Then there is also A Code-80 - this is for 21 year olds that want to get their unrestricted license. So you can go straight for your A license but will have the A2 restrictions until you're 24 or have your license for 2 years. So the BMW 310 is a decent bike for people with A2 or A Code-80 licenses.

You answered all the questions I had about riding a 300 on the highway. I have a 10 mile commute to work which I can easily take the streets but the highway is just a quick 3 exits before exiting so was actually wondering how it felt to ride with a 300. No idea where I heard this or how this idea formed but I kept thinking a 300 is not ok on the hwy because you can get blown off the bike? but everything looks fine from your ride... I'm just north of SD btw :)

Ground clearance is 180mm I think may more in india that would be great because other bikes only has 150 maybe less it made in india every other bikes touch ground at speed breaker no matter how slow u r TVs company make them they r no 1 at making useful bikes

I absolutely loved my G310R. Had it for a couple years as a way of getting myself back into motorcycling with a small capacity bike after an absence of twenty odd years. For commuting and urban riding, it's ideal. A low centre of gravity makes this bike stable and very manoeuvrable. In my experience, the G310 makes an ideal 'learner/first bike'. I fitted a 15T front sprocket to mine for that bit of added zip away from the lights and deactivated the clutch switch which enable me to quickly start the bike in gear after stalling it - something the G310R seems to like doing! When I got my full Kiwi licence, I sold my bike (first guy to see it, bought it) and used the cash to purchase a new Suzuki SV650 - a bike I've always liked and I haven't been disappointed. It's awesome. I like my bikes basic - what normal/sensible/boring rider needs traction control/lean angle control/wheelie control anyhow? 😆

I have a Yamaha R15, which is 155cc, yes I have taken it up to 135km/h on the motorway. A realistic 60km per litre. Lane splitting is easy. I'm in Australia and can't convince anyone it is a serious motorcycle, so sad.
