Hi John, I flattened that area just to make a reference point for when forming the hoops. But in subsequent pairs, I flattened that spot 90 degrees differently than in this video since I found that thinning in that way allows me to more easily slide whatever stock I'm holding back towards the handles and into the hoops, if that makes sense... Hi Todd, I don't mind your criticism and understand your perspective. But he used 1" and 3/4" square (a different size for each half) whereas I only used 1/2" round. However, for the second pair I did, I upset one half to get more material. Anyway, this was in no way a test of his tong since this tong is purely mine based off of a pic I saw, that's all. And my tong, to be honest, works very well. I made myself a pair and you may see it in use in my next video. Thanks and have a Happy New Year.
