I really had to Google what a "Intel 300" is. Last time I bought a Intel CPU that was labeled "300" I successfully overclocked it to 450MHz😂

@@XiaOmegaX I always wanted to try eGPU with my Latitude E6430 (i5-3210M) but I never found a ExpressCard eGPU adapter for cheap enough. I had older but much more powerful desktops (X5670 + GTX 960 and i7-950 + GTX 660) so I didn't really need an eGPU for the laptop for daily use.

@@brysonshires9742In the modern era, please don't bother with expresscard iGPU. best to just get thunderbolt adapters which are much more plug and play. Back in the day though, ivy bridge i5 laptop, expresscard slot, some adapter i can't remember the model number of that was PCIE passthru for express card. External PSU/GPU obv. Just worked 99% of the time. Had to downgrade the laptop from 16gb to 8gb (not a problem in 2014-2015) since the expresscard/gpu had some memory address overlap and wouldn't boot with 16gb ram, but that's getting into weird bug archeology here.

and they added P-Core prioritization for Hybrid Intel CPU's and it works great. My FPS graph is almost always flat on my 14700K. CDPR really redeemed themselves

For real! Upgraded my am3 system recently to am5 and went from fx 6350 to 7600x. It's using pretty much the same amount of wattage but for like 1000x the performance. It's incredible. Pairing it with a 7900XT

These sorts of channels really need to add Helldivers to the test bench rotation now. That game brings many CPUs to their knees with a full squad on 7+ difficulty and it would have been fun to see 5fps in this video.

Very interesting, thank you. I've always used a sort of seat of the pants estimate that gaming performance was about 2/3 GPU, 1/3 CPU, and your test confirms that it is in that ballpark. If it was all CPU, the 12600kf would be a bit over 3x faster, and if it was all GPU, they would be the same. Instead, it is somewhere in between, usually 60-70% GPU.

Ah, an even more extreme version of the 6700XT and i7 6700k combo I had for a while. Some games you could really, REALLY smooth out the frametimes with an FPS cap, others disagreed and you'd get smooth performance and then a little hitch frequently that was just as distracting. Beat the RE4 Remake with that combo, but in later stages those 1% lows would suffer quite a bit until I tinkered around with using Antilag and then Rivatuner to cap my framerate lol. Normally combining those can be disasterous, but it worked for me in that case.

This test makes perfect sense, because many people upgrade CPUs and GPUs separately. Additionally, GPUs need to be upgraded more often. So there are many real life situations when someone has a high-end GPU paired up with an old and slow CPU. The results are encouraging, it looks better than expected.

I would say it is interesting to test with frame generation instead of disabling is as you said (to test not the real bottleneck but if it is viable at all) And the true ultimate bottleneck needs a 4090! Keep up the great work.

It would be interesting to see how it compares to something like one of the last overclockable 4c4t i5 or i3. I have also noticed that 4c4t is abandoned by intel on the budget, I think its because it would be still viable against the i3 lineup with all the ipc gains of the last few years, so a 14th gen i3 with 4 threads enabled would also be an interesting test.

I have to admit I was pretty happy with my 2C / 2T 3.3 Ghz Pentium G4400 back in 2016 but in the time since then many programs and games got much more demanding. It's still nice to see you can still get a nice "Pentium class" CPU although the name change can be pretty confusing. And of course it doesn't hit the main important point: The very low price. This should go down another 10-20 bucks.

Some modern dual cores can pack a punch. Back in the skylake and kabylake days my friend upgraded from an overclocked FX8350 to a G4560 paired with a 980ti. Yes the G4560 ran circles around the FX8350 in every single game he tested. It wasn't a small difference either, it was a slaughter. In fact I bought the CPU from him and its in my Wife's pc with another 980ti so she can play Roblox and Minecraft 💀

Craziest is that while the cpu was drawing around 33W, the gpu was on the high stakes. 150-250W depending on the game. That cpu definetly reached it's maximum power draw. Not bad at all. As I mentioned last time, it have a 15-20% overall performance uplift and more than double the single thread performance to an FX-8350! Very jolly.

Starfield is jittery if you install the game onto a regular (older) HDD. I encountered this issue when I first installed the game. Once I reinstalled it onto my NVME drive, the jitterbugs disappeared. Also running a 4080 Super paired with an i7-14700F.

Not a bad start! I started with a 1st gen i3 and a ATI 5770 1GB around 2017. The RX580 is a little old nowadays but it should get you a fairly good 1080p experience. New AAA titles might be a little rough but there are tens of thousands of games that setup will be perfectly happy running.

Funny thing I have almost the same GPU but using single 8pin connector instead of 12vhpwr in my case it's a 4070 TUF Gaming OC but paired with 5700x oc'ed with Curve Optimizer/PBO2 4.6 all core and 4.8 singlecore running smoothly 1080/1440p and maybe a little 2160p on B450 chipset. Maybe I upgrade new components in the future since am5 is more spending rather than getting more performance. So maybe later

You will probably be fine, it kind of depends on your target frame rate and what resolution your monitor is. Going for insanely high FPS at 1080p in competitive shooters? Yeah you might want a newer CPU sooner than later. If you want to run full eye candy at 1080p, 1440p or higher I would hang on to the 9400f for a couple more years at least, it will do the job just fine in most cases.

Me with a cursed i7 4770 and a rx 7600 just got the lukefz mods and framegeneration on cyberpunk from high 24 30 fps 1080p 2k to 4k, ultra almost 60

This cpu is hilarious! In Canada, it's going for $142 and the 12100F is $130. I don't know what Intel is thinking. The core 300 should be about $80 at most.

Hey if you lock your fps at 30 the Intel 300 could play a few of these games at 4K max settings without huge framerate drops! But to be completely honest most people aren't going to pair a $1,000 enthusiast gpu with an entry level dual core cpu.

This comparison makes me want to see the Intel Processor 300 Processor compared with the N100 even more. 2 cores & 4 threads vs 4 Efficiency Cores (i.e. optimised Skylake), which will win? :) Bit of difference there with the PCIe bandwidth, but doubt that'll be much of a factor here...

That Intel 300 CPU is not bad for a 2 core, 4 thread CPU. Unfortunately 2 cores and 4 threads are only good enough for general day to day use, and even then barely. The i5-4460, which I have in my secondary rig, is a quad core!
