Thanks so much from Australia, I am 75 years young with me/cfs and arthritis in right hand 2nd finger, and also thumb to hand joint so finger-picking difficult but not impossible, but strumming would be easier for me i think.Thanks to your marvelous tutorial of starting with 2 note chord shapes i think i can do it your way.Had a look at a few other sites, but find yours really easy to follow,and hoping with a bit of regular practice i can play a few tunes eventually.So thank you so much for excellent video tutorials.I just did 15 minutes after re-tuning guitar to DAGDAD and thoroughly enjoyed it so have subcribed have a great day!

Great video, very helpful! The Mode Wheel looks like a cool invention too. One note: check the tuning on your guitar, it's flat, so it makes it hard to play along with. Just letting you know. Thanks for the tips!

Hello all! I've had a few messages asking for further DADGAD videos, so I've decided to make the subject of this week's Folky Fridays live stream using DADGAD in keys other than D major. You ask me any questions you have in real time and hopefully pick up some tips by tuning in here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8imdrmLzdSlqKs.html

Thanks for this. For the major chords, why do you slide your index finger to the major 3rd instead of using your middle finger for that tone?
@folkfriend
@folkfriend 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Heath. I think I did it in this video because it's easier to move the index finger down one fret to make a minor chord than making the big stretch with the third finger. Whatever fingering you like the best is fine though!

good, what key should I solo in that it sounds good? Mixolydian?
@folkfriend
@folkfriend 2 ай бұрын
Generally the easiest way to solo is using the minor pentatonic shapes. If you search for them online then you'll want shape 1 to start from the root note to go with a minor key and shape 2 to start from the root note to go with a major key. For example to solo over a song/tune in A minor (dorian, aeolian or phrygian) take shape 1 and start from fret 5 on the bottom E string. For a song in C major (ionian, lydian or mixolydian), use shape 2 starting from fret 8. I hope that helps!

This is for standard tuning btw... Soloing in DADGAD is a lot less intuitive tbh!

@arbor8591
@arbor8591 2 жыл бұрын
But thanks for the video!!
@folkfriend
@folkfriend 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! If F# is your root note then A is a minor third (3 semitones) above it, meaning that when you play the two together you will hear a minor chord.
@artiefischel2579
@artiefischel2579 4 ай бұрын
?? Why not just play the correct chords? Em ? F#m ? G? Not that hard in DADGAD, and you get a movable chord shape from them. Why not help guitarists be better guitarists, instead of lazy guitarists?
