Grip events have always been some of my best performances in Strongman, from the farmers walk and frame carry to the Hercules Hold. This is how I train my grip in the gym without any specialist equipment - a technique that has excellent carryover to Strongman.

I did these a bit back when gyms were open here in Denmark, really a good exercise. I also mixed it up with hex bar holds to get a neutral grip and then used a little more weight. Cannot wait to get back to training once our government decides to open up a little.

My favorite grip exercise is Time under tension. I'll grab a real wide object (basically just thumb and finger tips can hold it, 6" wide) and hold it until my feel the burn. Then i'll grab a med width object, like 3-4" wide. Lastly a small object like a bar. Squeeze various types of ball, racket ball, tennis ball, a hard rubber dog chew, for reps. I carry a tennis ball most places.

My first gym (with barbells anyway) only had bars with crappy knurling and there was no chalk allowed. I ended up just holding the last rep of my last set every time I deadlifted. I can use good barbells and chalk now but I'm thinking of going back to that. I'd like to be able mix grip my top sets with the bar more in my fingers than in my hands.

In the Giants Live Farmers Walk, the, rectangular blocks seen from 2004...20009.. 160kg what diameter are the handles 32mm? And are they knurled? I remember a competition where every second athlete wss getting the skin ripped away, I would presume different diameters suit different people/weights, the 400kg previous record Stefan Solvi 20.67 which I believe Oleksi beat 24m would be a killer on a 32mm knurled bar?
