I'm forever looking for more legacy content, absolutely love this type of video - if it does well you should consider doing it monthly! monthly metagame watch, love the pod / gameplay - been getting more and more into legacy lately, even breaking my rules and buying cards again to build some decks in paper

great video but a few notes - I feel a section that was missed are the green suns zenith decks of the format. there are a few, to summarise quickly - Blue zenith, a core bant or sultai deck but can be up to 5 colours, yorion optional, this is a core Blue green greens suns zenith toolbox deck Slow depths - a more midrange version of the dark depths (make a 20/20) combo deck, usually Naya or abzan but can be 4c sans -blue Maverick - a core green white fair creature midrange deck, this has no oops I win button like dark depths, no blue counters, just hatebears and good cards. a hard but rewarding deck. these days, abzan is common, but can also be Naya, 4c sans-blue, splash blue for leovold, etc., VERY flexible deck Cradle control - a black green deck, this is what happens when you make elves a fair deck. insanely good deck but possibly the hardest legacy deck, give this a try if you're up for a challenge, it's a slow version of elves where you flood the board with creatures and disrupt the opponent then just play a fair craterhoof behemoth also missing are lands based decks, with there being two main ones Prison lands - dedicated lands, also notably the most expensive legacy deck by far. These days, green white sphere prison is common, but green red is also played, slow, grindy, prison that operates on an entirely unique and strange axis Turbo depths - can be green black or rainbow/5c, the complete antithesis to prison lands, the aim is to make a 20/20 asap at any cost, protect it, and get it in. also something important to note that wasn't mentioned in the control segment - a new player may look at jeskai control (the forth eorlingas deck) and wonder why would I play this when I have more wincons and more card draw in 4 colour - the answer is stable mana. a lot of current legacy decks lose to too many wastelands or blood moon with greedy manabases, but Jeskai control enjoys the luxury of being able to play a large density of basic lands, which sounds like it's whatever but is a huge deal, turns out being able to play magic is important lol

I bought into Jeskai Stoneblade this year since I have the correct duals and the list runs mostly basics. I think the best deck for players to build are the ones that they have the cards for and enjoy the strategy of. Legacy rewards knowing your deck a lot more than other formats do.

Obviously, there's never just a single reason for anything (life is too complex, to chaotic to be boiled down to a single variable for any given situation)... ...having said that, this content (whether in a dedicated video like this or in your day-to-day League videos) is *exactly* why I Patreon you (one of the few if not only Magic content creators I Patreon, FWIW). Your humor & morals/ethics/values are also a major contributing factor to that decision, too.

Would love one of these every few months! I just started watching legacy 2 weeks ago bc I plan on going to NRG Minneapolis and it’s the day 2 format. Your channel has been incredibly informative, especially this video. The biggest impact you’ve had on my game is studying how your opponents first few land drops or spell cast identifies which deck you’re playing against.

Imagine my elated surprise when I saw you uploaded this video and my wish came true! I really hope you do more of this kind of content for EW 24, and any other tournaments this kind of content could be relevant for! If possible, it would even be great if you did a part 2 to this video as we get closer to EW 23, as an update for any changes or solidifications in the metagame between now and then. Thank you so much for what you do, and you as a whole! Big ups!

As distorted as Legacy is at the moment by recent printings, the meta seems astonishingly diverse. This video didn't even have room to cover like half of the decks at the top of the MTGGoldfish Legacy meta page right now: Reanimator, Lands, GW Depths, Sneak and Show, Doomsday, Temur Rhinos, 8-Cast...

Some kind of RUG Delver shell with Beanstalk, Mandrils, Murktide, and Fury (and likely more midrange so no actual Delver) sounds good. Tempo seems like the archetype that has the most to gain from Beanstalk because it typically loses something on each individual card it plays, and keeping it up into the late or even mid-game starts to get rough as you run low on resources.

@jameshill2450
@jameshill2450 7 ай бұрын
It's been a while since I played Legacy regularly, but it seems to me like D&T is built almost entirely to fight against blue decks already. It feels like splashing for Bowmasters would just hurt their consistency, and it only does what they were already doing well anyway. If I'm going to splash a color it's going to be to improve my worse matchups, not my best ones.
@ThrabenUniversity
@ThrabenUniversity 7 ай бұрын
I would instead view this as "it is improving the most common matchups." D&T is basically never winning its worst matchups anyway. The giant pile of combo hate that is typical in the sbs gives you a fighting chance vs combo, but some things like Elves are always just going to be brutal, even if you try to fix it.
