In this video I show step by step how to make a longboard. This is the complete process, from which raw materials to use to, to how to press, share, and finish your board. I spend a lot of time focusing on the press to shape the longboard to give it its kick tails and concave. The video was edited in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11 and shot with both a Canon t3i and a GoPro hero 3+.
Materials list for the longboard: 1/8 Baltic Birch, Wood glue, Wood filler putty, Paint, Stain, Clear coat, Grip tape
Materials list for the press: Sturdy base board, Scraps of wood/shims, 2x4s, Threaded metal rod, nuts, washers
Tools used: Tape measure, square, straight edge, circuar saw, chop saw, abrasive wheel chop saw, grinder, drill and drill press, wrenches/ratchets, clamps, graph paper, jig saw, belt sander, dremel tool, router, sand paper, counter sync, palm sander, stencils, masking tape, air brush, foam brushes, scuff pads, buffer and compound, razor blades

@@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I’ve never seen somebody induce concave (Not to mention concave on both sides in conjunction with kick tails at the front and back!) into their glue-up using only a crude form that doesn’t actually have a *form* to it (LOL) simply relying on strips along the sides to press up while the press applies downward pressure radiating to the edges from the center during gluing seems like it would result in an incredibly poorly made skateboard but that does not appear to be the case???

Following up on a five-year-old comment of yours regarding the gluing/clamping technique for producing a DIY longboard… How is the durability? I would really really really appreciate if if you would reply back because… Not to offend the content creator here but I’m honestly amazed that this type of clamping system works at all and if it does then I’m going to start doing it myself LOL

This was the most helpful video i could find for this. I made a longboard of my own earlier this year, it was the first one ive made so i had no clue what i was doing. In the end, my trucks werent straight, one sheet delaminated, and my griptape was frayed around the edges. I plan to make another this summer and im confident that this video will help me perfect my cruiser

Extra point for the clamping system. Ive done similar things and if the nose is just straight all u have to do is shape the tail and the concave. At the tail u can use clamps but for the concave I'm thinking about using heavy rocks. And it's mostly for people with no workshop. Also I'm thinking about strengthening the board lenghtwise with the help of metalthread. As a cheapversion of Carbon fiber cloth that has been used between the different layers of wood. oh well. there are so many ideas.

very good information, just one question. if you were to put the grain of each layer in the same direction would it have more flex? also, if you or anyone else knows, does using wood glue opposed to resin provide rigidity or flex?
@cash_reviews
@cash_reviews 8 жыл бұрын
If you run the grain all lengthwise it should have less flex and if you run it the other way it should have more flex with more torsional rigidity. And I'm not sure with glue vs resin, but I would assume resin is harder and would make the board more rigid.
