Between Sony addressing the infamous storage issue by including an SD card slot and the availability of emulators for players to experience titles from other platforms, the PS Vita remains relevant, even today, alongside powerhouses like the PS5 and Xbox Series X in the market. However, the Vita is often considered among the most underrated gaming consoles of all time, mainly due to the lack of proper marketing and a few other reasons. Nevertheless, this doesn't have any bearing on its game library, which boasts several hidden gems. For those who own a Vita or are considering getting one, here's a list of our Top 50 Underrated Vita Games!

I'm one of those that thinks the Vita is HIGHLY underrated. And, honestly, I didn't even remotely care about the Vita until a couple years ago. For the longest time, even when it first came out, the marketing sucked SO much that myself, and anyone I talked to about it, just thought the Vita was just...another PSP. Like the PSP Go. A new PSP with a second stick that some games might take advantage of. None of us knew it was it's own entire separate console. If I did, I probably would have bought one to be completely honest. Even now, I still find people that have no idea what the Vita ACTUALLY is. But, then I saw some stuff mentioned about the Vita, and then had the chance to buy one for cheap. Ever since, I've absolutely loved it. Admittedly, part of that is the custom firmware and homebrew stuff. But even without all that, the actual Vita games are really good. There's a lot of quality games on there, along with the officially released PSP/PS1 games on it. But with CFW, I can install ANY PSP/PS1 game I want and they run perfect. Then there's the tons of homebrew apps and plugins that still regularly get updates, and homebrew games and game ports, that also still get made and updated late into 2023. Custom frontend apps like Retroflow, custom themes, overclocking, control remapping, external controllers, and so many other things. It's an actual legit shame that Sony kind of shot themselves in the foot by horribly marketing it, and making the crappy proprietary memory cards expensive as hell. Especially when the Vita-1000 NEEDED a memory card due to having no internal storage. I would love to see an alternate universe where the Vita was just as popular, if not more, than the PSP. I would love to see what at least a few more years of proper official support would have gotten. The games we could have gotten on the Vita. Also, a SMALL change would have made a huge difference in how well it sold. The name. Personally, I do like the name PS Vita. But, when people were going from PS1 to PS2, PS2 to PS3....having a second handheld come out after the PSP, and NOT just calling it the PSP2, was a huge mistake. ESPECIALLY after we had the "PSP Go" which was just a spinoff of the PSP, making it seem like that's all the Vita was. Calling it PSP2, while boring, would have cleared up a LOT of confusion.

Marketing wouldn’t have saved it. It was doomed from the start just because sony was the one manning the ship, and sony doesn't understand portable gaming like nintendo does. Nintendo has always invested heavily into its portable titles and always gave them just as much worth as their home consoles. Take the metroid and zelda games on gameboy for example. You had 3d games like ocarina of time and metroid prime coming out with the older 2d style of games kept alive on portables - titles like links awakening and metroid fusion are still played today because they're unique experiences that stand toe to toe with the bigger budget games on consoles. Sony, on the other hand, always pushed for graphics more than the gameplay experience - the best selling game on psp was a gta game, and that's cool to get gta on the go, but it was still just the same gta like on ps2, just kind of worse. The psp still sold well because it had legitimate perks over the ds, like multimedia features and the ability to run 3d games, but the attachment wasn't there like with nintendo. Flash forward to the vita - it launched with uncharted, which was probably mind blowing at the time, but once the hype wears off, you realize it's just a worse uncharted game - for the price the vita and its memory cards launched at, you could just buy a ps3 and cheap used copies of the mainline uncharted games. Nintendo instead focused on putting their biggest franchises exclusively on the 3ds - super mario 3d land was their next big mario game and mario kart 7 was their next big mario kart game, and they were exclusive to the handheld. Add to that stuff like mainline pokemon and fire emblem that stayed on 3ds and never went to wii u - there was way more you would miss out on without 3ds than without the vita. Add to that the price - the vita was 250 dollars at launch when the 3ds launched at that price a YEAR prior and barely anyone bought it. Customers already showed they weren't going to pay that much for a handheld at the time (they would later pay more for the switch, but that system doubles as a home console). And clearly the loss on the vita at that price was still huge, as recouping manufacturing losses is the only reason that sony would create an overly marked up proprietary memory card instead of just use sd cards like the dsi and 3ds were already doing. Doing r and d for useless junk like a back touchpad shows that the product was probably not carefully designed. I love my vita to bits but i don't think i would have loved it if i had one back in the day when custom firmware didn't exist. There are a lot of reasons to be a fan of it, but there are also a lot of very valid reasons to skip it. It's very niche, and the majority of gamers would be better off with a 3ds or switch.

I generally agree with a lot. I remember the PS3, 360, even PS2 and PSP launches. They were huge. TV adverts, E3, the marketing was amazing. I dont even remember the Vita launch, or any marketing whatsoever. Sony made a lot of really neat tech, but said really neat tech made it a nightmare for devs. It turned into a snowball. Devs risk making game using all the tech, game flops because Vita isn't selling well, less devs make games, people have less reason to buy one. They really needed a Vita exclusive series to push units, but that was a weird time for Sony. Agree the name is awful. Ultimately it's sad it failed the way it did, because the way the market is now, we'll never see another PSP. And I have so much nostalgia for them, it makes me sad.

Do it, I was waiting because I wanted to support the vita but with sony closing the store down soon it's the perfect time.Also it's really easy you don't need a pc you can do everything with the device and a phone.I recommend getting a SD2vita it's super cheap and super worth it👍

What an amazing video and the fact you've made it 46 minutes long. That's kinda crazy and I'm like: why? I'm watching the video for days now (every time I'm on the loo) and I'm still not done. I wish you would have split it into parts BUT that way this is the best video about vita games on KZfaq. Super well done. You know what you are talking about and the vita will always make me sad. I'll forever wonder: what could have been? I also don't really know how powerful the vita is. People tell me as powerful as a ps2 but I always felt like the psp was already a portable ps2.

Well shit dude, you put serious effort into this relatively unimportant subject which is pretty damn impressive. Where most channels would give a half-hearted mini description of each game at most. You went out and listed things that make the game different on Vita, why it's good and worth your time, etc... Makes it feel like you're going above and beyond the normal things channels tend to do for these types of vids.

I bought gundam breaker 2 on ps vita and it was hard to play at first because I had to do a lot of experimenting do to the language was not English but I figured it out and it is fun
