Yay! Someone else who thinks the Lone Lands is underrated! It's one of my favorite zones and I always consider it to be an important rite of passage for each of my characters, since it's the first "depressing" zone that they face. I love the major tone shift it has from the starter areas and I really think it needs more love.

Part of the problem with West rohan is it doesn't really do anything to separate itself from east rohan, so you are already sick of it the second you start it.

I'm surprised you put the Shire so low. I would put the it in favorite tier if it wasn't for the questing taking you all over the place. The music and landscape of the Shire always make my day better!

I think a big part of zones are their musics. Sometimes I just enjoy going right to left with good music in the background. For the zones 1-50 I'm thinking about Eregion, Ered Luin and Bree-Land

This is the one of great things about LOTRO. Ask 100 people what their favourite zones are, you'll get 100 different lists :) Personally I love Forochel and would never miss it. It feels like home ;)

Great video, Louey! I agreed with a lot of your choices. Gotta say that Enedwaith, Angmar, and Mirkwood are my all-time favs- in terms of landscape, questibility, nostalgic value, and overall feel.

The Lone Lands have a special place in my heart, especially playing as a Hunter. Makes me feel like I'm helping some really down-on-their-luck people.

Its strange how different opinion for this are. I thought Mirkwood was generic and very boring to the point it actually made me stop playing twice. Once I got to Rohan, I couldn't stop playing, I love it. My favorite zones as of today are Bree, Lonelands, and Rohan.

Even if i dont like the hobbit questing, The Shire music, landscapes and ambience are just too amazing to put an "okay" rate. Agree with the most but c'mon i think everybody likes crossing the shire!

Moria was one of my favorite areas.

I looooove Rohan and I haaaaate Gondor! Honestly I would like Gondor as well if not that eternal darkness... IMO there are no bad zones in LOTRO and that's the reason why I keep coming back to this MMORPG and no other.

I most definitely think North Downs should be a step above Lone Lands. Having basically always levelled thru lone lands I used to dread it cause it was just so boring to me. But recently I chose to go through North Downs and not follow the epic. And my god, going from barrow downs to North downs and doing Fornost etc is some of the most fun I've had in the game recently.

Dale Lands is mine. I love it so much I do every quest and every deed there on every alt that goes through.

I am certain that your low rating for the Shire came from boredom as you have been there too often, but in itself the Shire is unique and outstanding and is at least one of my favorites along with Forochel. Your rating on Forochel I totally agree on. Angmar I found too depressing to give it a good rating at all and your comments on Moria and Rohan had been spot on.

I enjoyed this video, despite me only reaching east Rohan. (Returning playing after quite alot of years) for me stand out fave is evendim :)

Most of the zones have great landscape. Imo the issue is how long it takes to go from point A to point B in many of the old zones is just really slow even after you pick up stables because they lack fast travel. It ends up being time loss for questing and gaining experience. For example the environment in Forochel is amazing, but after that first zone quest cluster, the rest of the questing is very spread out and getting to questing areas is just extra long. Once I get past the low 40s I just want to get to Moria (50) as fast as possible via questing

I know this is a old video but I wanted to mention YonderShire, I think it was wonderful for lower lvl. The gear is also really nice for lvl 20's

I realize that if you play lots of elves and avoid playing hobbits, your view of the Shire vs. Ered Luin would stack up this way. I am totally the opposite - I like playing hobbits and LOVE the Shire -- I think it is fun, the quest progression is effective and logical, and the scenery is great! Finding that rainbow atop The Hill was a special moment for me back in 2007. Moria was, for me, just jaw-dropping from day 1! The degree of complexity and 3-dimensionality and geographical creativity in Moria blows me away! Re-creating something so mentally staggering in the books was a gigantic challenge for the designers and I think they knocked it out of the park!

Mirkwood has the best instances. Speaking of, maybe instance clusters for another list?

I have a lot of favorites, but I'll tell ya, with the anniversary scavenger hunt sent me back to the Dead Marshes; worst area ever. No mounts, and half the area is deep water.

Bree Land with the Barrow downs, Eregion, Enedwaith and Dunland (the cosmetic armor omggg) and Minas Morgul gotta be my favorit Zones/Areas in Lotro. But i really dont like questing in Rohan aswell( but Wildermoore is cool ) Gondor is okay

I absolutely loved rohan. That was by far my favorite zone lol. It's the only region I full cleared.

My personal S tier list. The Shire I'll never understand the people that say they hate the Shire... I know it's a low level area but I love it, especially from reading The Hobbit as a kid and The fellowship of the Ring and how that area leads into Breeland.. when I want to get away from everything and I want to immerse myself in a game there is no better area than the Shire for me when I hear that music I completely forget about everything else while I'm there.

Started the game recently and just finished lone lands and waiting for the 15th April update. Gotta say lone lands at the beginning felt very boring for me but when I arrived at the eastern part with Garth agarwen and Harloeg it became suddenly so satisfying (even though I had to kill 400 hillmen for the deeds and I hated that part) but the western part I feel its discouraging except for weathertop which stands out.

Put Evendim in S tier right now !

I would have to do separate lists if I were to rate these. One for just questing and the other for environmental. Many of them would look completely different. I love the environment of the Shire, but don't really like questing there.

My top five: Bree, Rohan, Evendim, Shire, Moria

Generally I agree with a few remarks - Shire while otherwise is just ok still is fun (or rather can be - depending on your company) if you are into some hobbit rp. Still ofc this is a niche however... - Moria - Thing is that all zones in Moria are expected to be confusing when it comes to navigation. Keep in mind that even Gandalf got lost there. While annoying still as players get lost there sometimes it just means dives did a really solid job. On the other hand it's fairly easy to figure out there are like 3 straight forward paths from Eregion to Khazad-dum. - Rohan. I am there currently with my warden and while when I wa playing it the first time I found it in the end extremely annoying mostly due to mounted combat now, as I have learned to engage in mounted combat only when really needed, I do find it to be actually fun.

Moria is by far my favorite zone. I also pretty much only run Dwarves so.....

Shire is great. If it werent for the postman deed Id love it

For me a big point in some zones is the navigation. You can get lost in some areas and I don't like that.

Yup, I forgive thee. There is only one zone. Although I am partial to Dol Amroth. The Shire is my favourite, of course it is. Plus the North Farthing additions in Everdim and Yondershire are nice expansions. The pre shire hobbit lands are ok. All the lands with the big people are ok for a visit ;)

The combat pace of Mordor is much better now

Misty Mountains- the quests might be sparse but the resources are not. Great gathering area.

As sad as it is my least favourite zones are the newer ones (Elderslade and also Ered Mithrin with Vales as a runner-up). I just could never really immerse myself in the atmosphere or maybe that's just my lack of positive feelings towards dwarves xd. As for favourite it would be hard to decide, but I'd pick Ered Luin, Evendim, Eregion and West Gondor.

The problem with Western Rohan is it is too long, right after already doing Eastern Rohan. I don't think it is as bad as you say. There are some nice areas such as the Fangorn portion. I also like Mordor. /shrug

I think missing seeing the sky for the length of Moria is OK, but The worst is when you finally get out only to be sent back in on a fetch quest or two.

My favorite zones are Forochel and Moria. My least favorite is Angmar.

Interesting perspective. I myself loathe questing in Eregion although the environment is great. And would put Forochel in the "not very fun" camp simply because of the travel (or lack thereof).

Hated Evendim. The questing was very linear. Here is quest hub. Collect the quests: Kill 10x, collect 5 y, kill boss z, etc. Be ushered in to next hub. The reforging Narsil questline and the Rumming's ridiculous riddles were the only break. Not every linear quest zone is terrible, (Forochel is good.) but this zone just does nothing for me. Loved the Shire. The Hobbits are still hilarious. Lots of memorable moments. I didn't think the Gondor quests were good. After slogging through Rohan, helping villages where the civilians, women, and children had to step up, we had seen just about every trope. Gondor gave us even more. The story writers were limited by the world Tolkien had built in this case, but I still feel annoyed when I must help repair ten fences in the new village to see a story developed. I was very disappointed we didn't get more of Smeagol's story in the Gladden Fields. I know that the hobbit village was 500 years old, but I really was hoping to read documents on the Hobbits' gossip/opinions on Smeagol. -points for not giving enough Gollum. Always add more gollum.

Nu-uhh. The shire, and now Rohan? Nooo, we have very different tastes. Also, wanting Gondor without the Shadow of Mordor over it is a fundamental misunderstanding of the story in general. So you want to do Gondor, but in the 4th age then? It's unfair to rate it badly based on 'it's too dark because it's near Mordor.'

Mirkwood is my favourite so far. I definitely agree that Rohan wasn't very good. Mounted combat is a promising idea but it just sucked.

What about the questing in Rohan is bad? Could have given some better details besides “it’s just bad”. I know why one would consider it bad, but a new player won’t.

The only time I enjoy Moria, is if I have a wallet full of mithril coins. dont feel like running through a labyrinth for 10 hours so paying is worth it.
