Before markdown was a thing(+10 years back), MediaWiki's syntax was pretty common and makes sense for anyone old enough to have worked in that environment. Thanks for the intro!

How do you convert markdown to html? I tried pandoc and shell script but inner links don't work

It can be done. Obviously, you can't see them in a text editor, but you can link them. You then need to convert to HTML or some other format to see them. However I like to put arrows and boxes in my study notes, so prefer handwritten. On the other hand a lot of business notes are largely lists. A further onsideration is that you may want Dropbox, Google Drive, etc to achieve portability and remote backup. Evernote and Notion are web-native. Whereas text is easily manipilated and will always be available. To be honest, I use Checkvist, but VimWiki would be as good. VimWiki potentially has better search facilities, but my needs are simple.

But you can't have your notes on your phone tho. Vim is good, but you can't have your notes everywhere with you.

Yeah you can, I sync my notes using iCloud and open them using obsidian so I can use the syntaxis and the links
