This is one heck of a video! Peter Allen radiates, dazzles, sparkles, and shines (and his outfit does too!) in this phenomenal music video from Countdown (1979). Watch Peter shaking it and getting on down in this high energy performance of "Don't Wish Too Hard" (written by Bayer Sager AND Allen) that will take your breath away. If you didn't love him before (I don't know how that's possible?!) then you'll fall in love with him in this! I wish to thank Troy, a Countdown aficionado, for providing me with such an excellent and rare clip. He's on a mission to recover lost Countdown episodes from the 1970s that were erased by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in the early 1980s. Peter really should have been much more famous here in America. I was just listening to another CD compilation I found of him, and after pondering the differences between his original "Don't Cry Out Loud" and Melissa Manchester's cover version, this came on and I thought, "I have to dance to this in the kitchen before breakfast!" Then I gave the link to a gay disco fan friend. When a local music store had an arson fire that morning, the owner told me to go upstairs and grab an armful and not tell anyone. The first person I went for was Peter Allen albums. Turned out he had albums downstairs in Rock as well as upstairs in Vocals. I wiped off the black soot from the covers and have been enjoying them very much. I'm going to see if I can special order anything new condition on him so his estate will get a royalty. Sorry about the lost "Countdown" shows, best luck on recovery! This is such a great energetic performance, and with a lyrical message to ponder, too! Anyone who only knew Peter from this and thought all his music was uptempo like this was then in for a surprise! I also love the title track of "I Could Have been A Sailor," in a different way. He excelled at every style he did.

Peter is very underrated and always has been in my opinion. People need to hear him sing and play his own songs (instead of other singers singing them) to appreciate him more. His music can be placed in many different genres. Hopefully someone will have an old VHS or beta tape with the long lost Countdown episode on it.

Peter always made it look easy. He always appeared to be totally enjoying himself whilst he entertained the world, struttin his stuff. It's his total absorption in the moment that is totally breathtaking. What an amazing talent.

He had the energy of a hummingbird! This is one of my favorite videos and songs of his, too!!
