Cedar is one of the types of wood to not use in a hugelkultur bed for the fact that they're resistant to rot and take a very long time to break down. It makes sense Cedar would be a great wood to use for purposes of longevity, like you did. Beautiful beds!

This is a great channel, you do an excellent job explaining the concepts. I live in Central Florida with a half acre food forest that I started 15 years ago. It’s nice to get some tips and inspiration from other local gardeners. Thanks!

My solution for raised...and I mean raised garden beds are stock tanks. My biggest stock tanks I have are 10' L x 2'W x 2'D. My other stock tanks range in sizes from 3', 4' and 6' L and have the same height and depth as my 10' tanks. I got the idea 3 years ago and have LOVED them...NO BENDING over at all. We have them all on cement blocks and all come almost to my waist. NO MORE backaches or bending over!

That sounds like a great set up! No weeds or ground pests either.

@@soniahofmann4969 Growing edible foods in public places, but specifically foods that only you will recognize as food.. or that only you know where it is planted. Perennials, medicinal plants etc. Some people do it in urban areas, but I’m more interested in doing it in swamp-land, abandoned lots, and dense thorny areas of the forest. Create a secret pathway into the middle of the thicket, and create a secret little 7’x7’ oasis in the wilderness

I know, I'm in love with them! Just keep looking out the window and smiling : ) I did the C/U shapes because they maximize space - think key hole garden. And we wanted something fun/unique and flowing so that it functioned well and looked good. It is 6 of their large beds and 2 of the small. They have all different ways to arrange them and even have stacking kits.

I am using tree size nursery tubs for my garden, Florida zone 9b. This is too expensive but it looks nice.
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
I decided to go for it but get the price point. I was ready for exactly what I want but also work with what Ive got. The teal rounds are salvaged water pipes from a construction site. As long as were growing food that's the most important part!

@@TheUrbanHarvest with what is coming in the near future I believe that we all need to grow food! I don't know what people do in high rise buildings but. Feel badly for them.
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
@@bjbrown6884 Agreed, although nothing close to meeting needs there is almost always a way to grow food even in high rises. You can grow microgreens in as little as 5 inches of space on a sunny window sill. There are tower gardens for balconies. We just have to get creative!!!

5:52 Pressure treated wood hasn't used toxic chemicals in over twenty years. Unless you're using incredibly old lumber (in which case I'd wonder if there are any chemicals left for the soil to absorb anyway), it shouldn't do any harm to your soil or plants.
@eileenmcnutt9159 Жыл бұрын
the treated lumber today is not toxic like they used to be,
@TheUrbanHarvest Жыл бұрын
Much better than it used to be but I just like to keep things natural to be on the safe side.

I'm confused so we have to buy our own wood what size did you use is that a two-by-four or 2 by 6 could you tell me approximately how much the wood was ..I know wood has come down in price
@TheUrbanHarvest2 жыл бұрын
Its 2x6 cedar. They gave good instructions on how to do the wood in the assembly book. My wood for the entire garden was almost $900. Essentially 7 of the large beds.

The metal raised beds make a lot of sense for durability, but don't they get too hot in the sun for the plants? I'm in Broward county FL.
@TheUrbanHarvest Жыл бұрын
Not really, they are not in direct sun because of the wooden cover on the top. It blocks direct light onto the panels on the side so they really don't get that hot actually

So do they send the team out with the price of the raised bed or did you hire extra help to do the work for you? Most people can't afford to hire outside help. How can you tell us the difficulty putting them together when you didn't do it yourself. I'm sure it looked easy watching others do it. Lastly, did you get paid to promote this product? Because why else would you replace beds in such a failing economy when the old worked fine this whole time
