When you first hear of the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the Sony a6700, did your heart rate increase. Mine did. Somehow I knew these two were going to be special, and they are. I took this combo with my wife and grandson to the Cabazon Dinasaur park and got great photos. Having a wide angle to normal zoom was unbeatable. Got fabulous photo that were sharp. Even when grandkid was running towards me, the a6700 maintained perfect focus. You don't need a FF camera to take great travel photos as the a6700 with the Sigma zoom is more than up to the job. I continue to enjoy your reviews and thanks for hitting the street to show how good camera products are. And you need to get out of the studio and get fresh air.

I bought the Sigma 18-50 together with my ZV-E10 last year, but although I was impressed by the Sigma's optical quality, I couldn't really enjoy this lens because the complete lack of stabilization was pretty frustrating. I do a lot of lowlight photography as well as handheld filming for street videography (And I absolutely hate gimbals) - both things that don't really work completely unstabilized. But now that I also have an a6700, I absolutely LOVE the Sigma as my everyday multi purpose lens on the a6700 - for my usecase, IBIS really is a game changer and finally allows me to fully unleash the Sigma's potential. For my ZV-E10, though, my main everyday lens now is the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS for its pretty efficient in lens-stabilization.

I used this combo on a recent trip and was very impressed with my photos but, most of all, just how fun it was to carry this combo around. I agree with you, Mark, the Sigma 18-50 seems made for the a6700 and it is just so "gosh darn cute" to look at!. I use a Peak Design wrist strap when I am out shooting, just for that added bit of security. You made Toronto look like a city of smokers!

Bought the Sigma 18-50 last year and having a blast with it! It's perfect for my use case- mostly videos but for photos it kills too! Love it. Paired with the zv-e10!

Nice video, gave a very good impression of how you actually do street photography. I own the lens on my 6400. Looks almost small on the 6700 :-). I like aperture priority a lot and combine it with auto-iso-min shutter speed where you can also limit the max shutter speed. I am still learning different focal lengths, so I enjoy primes a bit more. But currently my sigma 18-50 is taped to 27 to check whether the ttartisan 27 could be a nice daily carry lens for me.

I like using a telephoto and grabbing some candid shots of people from a distance. Slow motion of a crowd is so fun, too. I feel creepy that I don’t ask permission.

Whaaa! I was just doing a video at Dundas Square myself, on that warm one we had last week. Can't go out there now since it dropped to -5C again. Awesome work as usual. If I can stomach slowing down for a zoom, that lens would be my first choice before my next trip.

I have been using this combo and this Sigma has been on my camera by default until Viltrox releases the 27mm F1.2. I find myself putting Viltrox on my camera more and more. The lens is superb. The focal length is flexible enough and image quality is superb and even better than the Sigma (well it's a prime lens with F1.2).

The Sigma 18-50mm lens is on the top of my list for my FX30 even though I'm not a street photographer. It's a great all around lens for so many purposes and situations. But, then again, you might have converted me. Those were nice photos.

I’ve got a a7s iii with the sigma 24-70mm 2.8 ART lens. Mainly for filming VFX plates - I love that 8ms readout speed. But 12MP isn’t a ton of resolution for capturing photo textures. It’s great for most applications but I can’t snag large patches like roads or walls to use up close in 3D software.

I use that lens on my 6400 and love it! I hope to upgrade to the 6700 soon.

I enjoy the photo walk videos a lot. My favorite combo for this is my A7iv with my tamron 28-75 f2.8 but I’m really wanting to give the a6700 a try.

Thanks for the video. I own this body and lens combo and also enjoy having the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 to pair with it. Still debating if I will keep it since I own a lot of Sony full frame bodies including their A7CII and A7CR compact full frame bodies. This combo is small and versatile though so will see.

You had a good tip about the earbuds, if you do film while wearing them, it makes people think you are on the phone.

Enjoyable POV w/commentary and settings reveal. I have the lens/cam combo as my standard go-to gear for local events - fits my ergonomic preferences also. Do you use back button focus? Interesting color grading - skies from blue to blue-green or grey. How you color grade would make a welcome vid, IMO.

LOVE these photo walks. I bet it is loud around you. Don't know if you had to do anything in post with it, but I thought the sound around you on the walk was cool. And I don't know why the smokers are my favorite, (yes I do, props impart a feeling) but the black and white photo was great. So unhealthy, but makes a great photo!

Great video Mark. I have the same setup and do a lot of street work in NYC. Just a question, what do you have your Zebras set to. It seems you had to adjust a lot. I prefer a Custom setting: Lower Limit 108+ or 109+ when I'm shooting RAW. Keep up the great work, More videos like this! I love my Sony Zeiss Sonnar 35mm for street work as well.

This was great, Mark! Have you noticed that in low light in aperture priority mode the camera maxes out ISO even when lowering the exposure compensation? My intuition is that it should decrease ISO first, instead of increasing SS for a lower exposure. Do you have any idea why that is?

One of my favourite photos I took was a night time shot at Yonge-Dundas square (facing North) with a 12mm on the NEX-6. It allowed me to really capture the whole scene and it's so vibrant at night. Sadly I lost the photo when my laptop failed so I'll have to make it back down to recreate it this summer. Cheers from the capital

Great Video Mark, Thank you for explaining to us what's going on around you. Can you make a video explaining Drive mode (BRKC, BRKS, BRKDRO). I tested BRKC and BRKDRO(high). I liked BRK(DRO) as compared to others after merging the 3 photos of the same instance. Would be better if you could explain what is getting changed in each mode with examples and which mode will be better for which condition.

Very nice lens apart from size, a bit big for what it delivers. When travelling I take the Sony 18-135, no bigger, lots of reach and it has optical stabilisation.

I am using this lens as well, really really like it. It's not the best lens, but you get a lot for the price and size.

Mark, the Kit-lens 16-50mm also is no slouch. Cheap, light almost perfect for street photography.

Thank you for taking us on your Fotwalk. Since I was the first to buy a ZV-E10 and it doesn't have IBIS, I bought the larger Tamron 17-70 with VC. Buying a Sigma specifically for my a6700 doesn't make much sense. Edit: There's a nice recent comparison of these two lenses on Dustin Abbott's KZfaq channel.

Love the POV. What mode do you shoot your street photography in? I’m very new to all this and it’s getting a bit overwhelming. 50% says aperture priority and the other half is manual.

Your pictures are so much better than mine, how do you edit the pictures? Do you have any profiles that you apply to your pictures or do you edit each picture individually?

hey mark, by any chance would you be able to do this style of video taking photos with the FX30? I am aware it isn't "meant" for photos, but considering I have one and there is very few videos of people using it for photography i think you'd make a great video.

I’m a travel vlogger and now planning to get the Sony a6700. Till now I’ve been just using a GoPro hero 11 for my vlog, but now I want to upgrade. Do you think a6700 with the sigma 18-50 f2.8 will be just enough for both vlogging and capturing landscapes for my travel videos or I should also get either the Sony 11mm or sigma 16mm ? I don’t want to spend too much as I’m just starting. Is 18-50 sigma enough or should I also get an either of the Sony or sigma wide angle lens. Looking forward to your response. Thanks.

I really would like an A6700 but I really need it to be able to handle just sitting around doing 4k video for a long livestream without worrying about overheating. I've seen far too many posts that essentially boil down to YMMV, and its put me off. It's a shame really because it looks like a really great photography camera and the Sigma lens is so handy for holidays and general trips

18-50 yes. If I could only have one lens (I have 7) it would be the 18-50. Time and time again it has surprised me by being sharper than I expect.
