@@Kundalini12 You, and many others, are missing the point. Back in the days of the original IBM PC and its successors, there was no such thing as USB. I do remember serial keyboards *the original PC, XT and some early AT models) where one could actually disconnect the faulty keyboard, connect the good one and press F1 to continue. Of course, with the advent of PS/2 keyboards this no longer was an option (disconnecting and reconnecting a keyboard or a mouse on live early PC systems was a big no-no) but at the same time no one gave a flying fvck to change that specific error message.

WHAT. I literally just rescued my mom's 530 last weekend that she used since 2009 and put a GT710 in it the other day. I had to replace the power supply once, but other than that, it's been a tank and it was very clean. What a coincidence to see it on here. Did the one you picked up have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (the original CPU that had to be discarded)? My mom's did and it still works great with a lot of tasks in Windows 10. And I just played some Streets of Rage 4 on it. I have it plugged into a nice 32" 480p CRT TV and am using it for retro things. Love the channel! Take care!

I've owned a 530 since 2008, when it I bought it new for £399 from Tesco in Stockport. Mine came with a Q6600 but was recently upgraded to a Q9400. It has been my main desktop until this year and still runs XP, for legacy games and my video capture card. It did, of course, come with Vista, so had to be "upgraded" to XP. Long ago, I upgraded the graphics to an X1650, which work nicely for an of the old games that I have. As a legacy system, the Dell Inspiron 530 motherboard is ideal because it has drive connectors for floppy, IDE and SATA discs. A few years ago, I also acquired a 2009 vintage Inspiron 545. The latter doesn't give me the option of easily installing a floppy drive, but is now working nicely with Windows 10.

Brings back so many memories. I had a Dell Inspiron 530S (S meaning SLIM) in my early teen years. Got it from Walmart for god knows how much and it had a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 2400 Pro (I think) for a graphics card, complete with the latest and greatest NVIDIA drivers for all of my blue screen needs. The heat spreader on the card itself eventually tore itself off of the card. A lot of beautiful memories with that beast like 13 years ago.

Great build. Great video. Glad that I'm not the only one who loved Windows XP as an operating system. I still have a couple of older XP based laptops that do the job with no issues. Eventually I might build a desktop like this. And Vista seemed like the idea OS to dual boot with (I much prefer Windows 7, which was much better) because the OEM license was for Vista...

A couple months ago, I actually found a Dell Dimension 530 fully working. Just upgraded the ram to 6gb and the cpu to a Core2Duo 3.16ghz. Works like a charm with both Windows 10 and Linux Mint. It seems that there are two versions of motherboards for the 530, one that only takes dualcore/core2duo cpus, and one that works with quadcore cpu.

One of them had broken dimm slots and a broken processor. It still had 8gb of ddr3 ram which i took from it and a gtx 560ti, which i took from it too. I put said components into the other pc,a Dell Precision T3500 Workstation, and now i have my desktop that can run some modern titles and is great for general usage. The exact specs are a GTX 560Ti, 12gb of DDR3 ram (i have no idea what speed), Intel Xeon E5640 and 2 500gb hdds both at 7200rpm and one of the dell psus that come with the precision. I got all of the parts for the pc for less than $5 and you are the reason i have built up this pc. Thank you very much.

I had this same desktop (SFF version) and never had any issues with it. Upgraded it to 4GB of RAM and at the time found a cheap 1GB SFF GPU. Played L4F, TF2, GMOD and RuneScape on it with no issues.

My uncle is in his 60s and he started computing when Windows 98 was around. So he had a ton of legacy stuff that he'd like to get working again. I found a $50 small form factor office computer and I installed Windows 10 32 bit, and that 32-bit version of Windows was compatible with almost everything he owned. While still having all of the modern features that Windows 10 has to offer including for him, ease of use.

8.1 is my current OS of choice. Runs well with older hardware and fewer bugs than 10. Vista isn't bad with SP1 at all. XP looks much better with Zune theme. I keep a couple of old XP machines around for old games.

Those caputure cards, like the one you showed in the video, runs fine on linux too. I have to say that I love just using cheap old computers like the on you showed, to throw inside of them all the hardware i want and have it working, it's just satisfying to have a cheap featurecreep mess that works.

To give you an idea of how bad the MGS2 port is, someone on the dev team thought it would be an excellent idea to have the escape key full on kill the process rather than just bring up a pause menu.
@banguseater
@banguseater 2 жыл бұрын
to be fair thats kinda the whole idea of the esc key but by 2002 or whenever the port came out, it was super out dated to function that.

iirc, even some modern titles like cave story or undertale used that and i was baffled that even devs would use that

Great video. I Defiantly have got a thing for older dell Systems myself of late from the XP era. Can't help looking them and adding to my watch lists. Watching a dell vostro 400 at the moment described as "pc case" on the very cheap as well. Looks like it's all there my bet it's a similar problem to the one in this video. Thank you for your great videos keep up the great work.

That Core 2 Duo would work alright in a modern PC, I used one up until April of 2020 just fine. Of course, with a rather modern graphics card to try and make up for the CPU. I actually created a similar computer for my personal Minecraft server, just with the E7200 instead, no graphics card, and I installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
