“I must be doing something wrong when it’s time for the grip.” Now there’s a thought that has crossed the minds of 99% of all jiu-jitsu students, especially in that inevitable occasion where the choke got away. The torque, the adjustment of the hands and the fingers are indeed crucial, but they’re not enough to secure the win, as Rickson Gracie confirms.
Take note of the rich details in this lesson on the choke from the mount, with the opponent lying sideways, and feel the unbearable lightness of the perfect choke, at the precise time when the master’s body connection, movement synchronicity and well-balanced base add up to the unstoppable result: the tap-out.

i love how Rickson doesn't just choke you out, he does so in a way that requires the least amount of effort to cause the most amount of damage.

I’m blessed enough that in 2004 on my way from a white belt to a blue belt under Rickson, I remember him teaching this to our class at the Wilshire Academy. Some of the best years of my life. It’s the little movements that make him great.

Hello, is he so good at pure jiu-jitsu than we say? Because I never saw him train against the big black belts of the time

It would really be good if Rickson put a complete book together! Where I'm almost sure there's someone that can draw line figures indicating movement, direction and someone who can clearly articulate instructions others will understand. Rickson would need to elaborate on feel, etc., Which requires a lot to counter. But knowing what to feel for. Even individual pamphlets to make up a series! Different from the rest, but could form an encyclopedia case on the core working of jiu jitsu,😉. Look at the sales others had with their books. Which if Rickson did this, he would take in high sales. If Rickson doesn't do this, someone else eventually will. It can not take the place of physical experience, but properly articulated and drawn out, a person would eventually catch onto what he says and shows. If complemented with a video series as on DVD, it'd really be a good tutorial. Can I got some thumbs up and votes???

He comes from the old school where they keep lots of secrets. Maybe when he's closer to death he'll have a book finally explaining his "invisible jiu-jitsu."

My first introduction to Rickson's techniques (not his fights or legacy), but his actual techniques, was as "invisible jiu-jitsu" ... the small technical adjustments that are unnoticable unless explained by the doer which make a good technique into a great one via my first professor. This is exactly those types of hyper minute adjustments that differentiate a good BJJ player vs. a legend. Love this.

I would love a private with this legend but I could not afford it. Watching this does no justice for his jiu jitsu. My instructor trained with him back in the day and he said it was like fighting an empty jacket.

English: Hey could anyone ask Rickson if he minds teaching a more in-depth systematic approach like guys from Renzo been teaching nowdays? Would be a longer project but would be awesome to see and learn what choices he would make when for example, against an opponent standing with 1 leg forward, opponent with one knee on the ground.

You know there are probably those in Japan that do know their JiuJitsu and such, as in the states, those who are quiet, preferring to keep within a small circle. But The Gracie's are teaching Japanese their own style and all masters seem to be redoing their view of how they train. What was strange is the Dog Mentality of any number of martial artists, as I recall as The Gracie's became known, we established styles started suddenly have grappling in their Kata. Thing is, it wasn't there before. Where it'd be good to see Rickson learn Daitoryu JiuJitsu so he can teach them how to make it work, 😂😂😂, Aikido too. Which they know when to spread the back, collapse the back, apply strength, when to relax, it seems the Gracie's already have Gracie Aikijiujitsu. Truth be known, they may already know Daitoryu, but went with the ground game. Where why not? Standing takes effort and is too much like work, 😂.

I'm thinking there could be a crew put together, where artists could draw these things out, others writing out the methodology, then Rickson could correct everything, edit. Which listening to hisself, he probably find a better way of saying things and illustrating things, critiquing it all. This is, if he wants to do this.. It might not be his cup of tea. I'm only speaking from my end.

I don't see why you can't to the same thing with a full grip! Less strain on each finger and less chance of losing the grip!
@hoopzevidence
@hoopzevidence 2 жыл бұрын
I think because with a full grip. Your elbow will be low and harder to use your body for extra pull. And the slight release of the last two fingers gives a better angle for your elbow allowing you to use your body.
@tjl4688
@tjl4688 10 ай бұрын
Relaxing your pinky and ring finger also relaxes the muscles on the outside of your forearm. It's weird, but because those smaller muscles are more relaxed, it's much easier to pull with your back.
@tomanderson6140
@tomanderson6140 10 ай бұрын
Because the ultimate goal is to take up slack and compress arteries, not to pull. With a two-finger grip, your wrist can turn and bite into the neck more, and it's more like tightening a rope around the opponent's neck. The same mechanic applies to a similar choke from the back position.
