9 ай бұрынJessica Baggen decided to walk home one night, but never made it home. It wasn't long before a local man went into the police station and confessed to the murder, but he hadn't actually committed the crime. It would take 23 years for the real killer to be identified.

Sentencing these days is a joke on victims and their families. When these monsters merk themselves, I see it as just. He's no longer able to physically hurt anyone else , nor nor prolong his case with appeals, nor make attempts at parole. He's gone forever

The police department in this case needs to be revamped. Like, they had DNA, a suspect, but they never tested to see if it was a match. Wasted time, resources, a man in behind bars for over a year. All that could have been avoided.

It's an absolute disgrace, I hope her poor family has finally found peace, I know exactly what it's like to loose a loved one, my sister was murdered in 2008, people say that you'll get over it but you never do, you just learn to live with it, R. OMG they didn’t test the DNA???? That police department sound like a bunch of blind clowns. Shame on them!! I can’t imagine all the damage that monster did to untold young women, walking around free for all those years. That entire police department needs to be dismantled and re assembled with properly trained management, staff and officers.

Who was Richard's "friend" that suggested he might have raped and murdered a teenage girl? He either didn't believe it and was just being a dick, or did believe it and didn't tell the police. What a good friend. And Steve, you didn't stop them from getting the sample! You got all dramatic but it didn't work. Your legacy is your legacy.

The narrative about an outsider / stranger as the perpetrator in crimes like this is part of the problem. Police settled on the next best thing thing: The local weirdo / drunk-outsider. As a general rule: Some village police force dealing mostly with traffic tickets, the occasional teenage party and maybe an eviction or two / year, should never be the lead agency in a serious sa / murder case such as this.

I am shocked that the police response to a teen girl being raped was for her to confront her rapist on the phone to obtain a confession. That sickens me, and I can only hope that poor girl found some healing. I also hope Jessica's family has found some sense of peace.

@@catrobinson6282 the way the police handled both of these teen girl's cases is still just gobsmacking to me. I know it was the 90's in Alaska, but now I've been doing some thinking. If that were my daughter he assaulted and after making her call him when they had his dna on her, I would've disappeared him. I mean after all it was the 90's in Alaska.

I've also enjoyed this episode as well I remember both cases and of course they always happen in remote places. They finally let local City Patrol people finally have guns that took a very long time

He is so lucky that small town jury did not just go with the flow like so many others do. The thought of, "justice" usually supercedes rational thought when people of a town this size are told they have the suspect in custody with a full confession or somewhat one. Their minds are made up no matter what so big ups to them for really listening and knowing that no matter the crime they had a mans life in the palm of their hands... Thank you, that is all...

As a fan of true crime, you frighteningly see a pattern of where the police get one lead and just run with it. Potentially ruining an innocent life and letting the real perpetrator commit more crime or in some cases get away completely. Things need to change, thankfully nowadays things seem to have changed for the better but I know it still happens on a lot of cases. The amount of innocent people serving time in jail is shocking
