Welcome to Meg's Crime Watch! I'm not a #Lawyer, and I don't play one on #KZfaq! I do have degrees in #LegalStudies and #Research and I will #Search to find the #Best #Court #Cases for you!!! They won't all be #Crazy, #Wild, #Wacky tales of #Karen and #Kevin, but they all will be interesting in their own way and something you won't see on every other #LawTube channel. I will #DeepDive into the #Background and give you the #WholeStory in a way that even #JudgeJudy would #Approve of!!! I am a #Proud #MSWarrior, so there may be some #Mistakes, but we can't all be #Perfect like #JudgeBoyd! I love her, but I would rather #KeepItReal like #JudgeSimpson!!!

Exactly. My ex treated everyone way better than he treated me and our children. People had no idea the monster he truly was in private. He was a deacon in both churches we belonged to at the time. His own family believed his lies about me to cover his abuse. Took me 25 years, but I finally got out of that marriage and have never trusted another man. My only regret is that I should have divorced him sooner, but I waited until the children were old enough that they couldn't be forced to have overnight visitations. He would have taken them and hid them from me just to hurt and destroy me. He's 78 now, and after having a near death heart attack, he is a changed man for the better. I'm glad for him and wish him well.

This woman is a moron for having any kids with this lying monster and for staying with him as long as she did. Back in the late 60's early 70's our alcoholic stepfather beat us for eight years and never spent more than a night in jail. We had broken bones and horrible bruses and my sister received permanent brain damage from one beating. The psychological abuse was just as bad and we never got any help. We were living in Texas at the time. We were just cheap property. I hope the kids in this case can get the help they will need for the rest of their lives. Mistreating children is so disgusting. This guy should be in jail but, this is how our justice system works. Victims can go pound sand.

If you are not a lawyer and you are nervous it would be hard for anyone to question someone. Especially if that someone has been and is an abusive bully to you. I wish she would have asked as well, but either way her case was strong enough for the judge to agree! I mean honestly that guy didn’t come off as credible at all, he screwed his own self, no questions asked!😊😊

Yeah, let's blame the mother. Because abusive pricks always show their true colors at the beginning of a relationship. She said they've been separated for about 5 years and divorced for 4.

I think for most people who find themselves in abusive relationships it's usually a matter of "boiled frog syndrome" where the abuser starts out cool and then slowly turns up the heat on his/her victims. I'm pretty sure this hearing is about the mother attempting to keep her children protected from that brutal bully. I don't know how many women and children live in this kind of terror but it seems wrong to place the blame on the victims of the abuser.

probably because the children were born before things got real bad. this'll be a long comment. there are a lot of reasons a person stays in an abusive relationship. one is called the "cycle of abuse." in it, the abuse will take place in episodes. after an episode of abuse, the abuser will apologize, promise they'll get help, love bomb the victim, etc. the survivor of jon koppenhaver explained that the days after he beat her up would be "the best days of their relationship." this has an intoxicating psychological effect: now that the attack is over, their loving partner is back, there's hope for the relationship, they're not walking on eggshells anymore, etc. this is called the "honeymoon phase." after this passes, eventually things start getting tense again, and the cycle continues. the victim of domestic abuse are often manipulated by their abuser to believe that while these episodes are bad, they are triggered by the victim's behavior. for example, the victim may think, "he hit me because i was late home from work. it won't happen again as long as i'm not late again." this type of abuse has the victim on edge at all times, and it also leads them to believe the abuse is their fault. in almost all forms of domestic abuse, a key element is the isolation of the victim. the abuser distances the victim from friends and family, both reducing the victim's ability to seek help and convincing the victim they're alone and their only source of comfort is from their abuser. my grandfather eventually found a reason to dislike each of my grandmother's friends and most of her family. the only time he issued "you can't see them anymore" commandments was if the person was mexican, but he made it so stressful to see them that eventually my grandmother would oblige him and stop. in the end she had no one. she still has no one. their abuser may have also convinced the extended family that the victim is overly dramatic and vengeful, and has threatened to allege abuse as punishment. so if the victim did reach out to family, they wouldn't be believed. this was also the case with my grandmother. in some cases, the abuser may have control over the victim through finances. maybe they share a bank account and the abuser limits access, the abuser owns the family business, or the victim doesn't make as much money as the abuser, stuff like that. so the victim might be afraid of leaving and not being able to make it. in homes with children, there are also plenty of victims who are the primary target of abuse in the home, so they believe the children aren't in danger. "she's a wonderful mother. she only hits me." they don't realize that witnessing abuse is abuse in and of itself, particularly in the eyes of children's services, or that it's hubris to assume it'll stay that way. once they realize this, they live in deep, deep shame, feeling that they brought this abuse on the children. the human mind is malleable. we have an instinct to adapt and rationalize. we search for humanity and meaning in everything we encounter. abusers use this to their advantage. the victim of abuse will very commonly place blame on other causes for their abuser's behavior. there was a case like that in judge boyd's court once. she said something to the effect of: "he's great sober, he just gets rough with me when he's drinking. he goes to his family's place and they all enable him, they're always drinking. i tried to tell him to go over there less, but he said he's a grown man and i can't tell him what to do. i don't know how to help him stop drinking." he's the one drinking. drinking doesn't change your personality. he's the one choosing to be violent. but in her view he's being acted on by other forces and it's her burden to make it stop. what's also wild is that most of the time, abusers don't even realize they're doing this. it's not like they read a listicle on how to abuse and control their partner. they seek control, so they get angry about people they see as poisoning their partner's mind against them. they resent things that cause their partner to leave and be outside their control, like a job or a hobby. they get angry when things don't go the way they think things should go. these behaviors make sense to the abuser, which is why it's so difficult - arguably impossible - to "cure" an abuser. so having said all that, i think it's probable that in this case, she believed it was just her, so if they divorced, it would be fine; but as A. his outlet for abuse was gone, and B. the children aged from toddlers to small people with agency and opinions, he began lashing out at the children too. she's now going through legal remedies to save her children. that's just my theory though. i want anyone still reading to remember these two things: 1. an abuser isn't horrible all day and all night. things will be great sometimes. that's what fucks their victim up in the head. most victims i've ever spoken to have agreed that no matter how violent their partner got, it was the psychological scars that lasted the longest. 2. abuse is always about control. it is _always_ about control. whether it's anger or sadness or the silent treatment or suicide threats or whatever method of acting out the abuser pulls, the source of it is 100% of the time a desire for control over their victim. sorry about the length. if you read it, hope this helps. if you didn't, same.

Ah yes, always blame the mother. You do know that abusive pricks like this don't always show their true colors right away. They wait until after you have kids and are dependend on them to become abusive. Then they control all the finances and make it difficult and dangerous to leave.

It’s time to simply make corporal discipline illegal. I’m not saying it’s wrong or immoral to use it. 1. It doesn’t work. 2. Too many parents hurt their kids in permanent ways (by accident or reckless behavior ) let alone on purpose that it’s not worth preserving such a dangerous tradition. Corporal Punishment doesn’t change behavior in mammals. The behavior in kids, in cats, dogs, or any rodent when used just causes the animal to repeat the behavior in a different environment. If you wash your kids mouth out with soap for swearing, they will continue to swear with their friends when adults arn’t around. And if their friends tattle, they get new friends who won’t snitch. It’s not complicated.
