This is by far one of my favorite videos on KZfaq. It teaches people the mentality of people who believe in conspiracies big or small. The most impactful moment is when he says his normal catchphrase but with all the context of the video, it makes us understand that the first part "love with your heart." Has its own multiple of meanings like "Use your brain for everything else." It's to not put your heart into overthinking everything and to have sympathy for others so that your own selfish needs or thoughts don't get in eachother's way. One of the best messages a video could have.

The part before the real Captain Disillusion broke free, really touched my heart, no one wants to believe that innocent people died, I have family members that went through this, and it’s so hard to let go, but these tragedies are real, and we have to let go sometimes. ❤️
@alexbenavidez45004 жыл бұрын
My uncle is like this. It's less painful to think a shadowy organisation is behind a tragedy, than it is to accept that terrible things happen sometimes for seemingly no reason, by regular people acting alone, and it can't always be stopped One random person; just a civilian, having the power to end countless lives is a terrifying reality to accept and carry on living in, so claiming it must be the work of higher institutional powers actually makes them feel safer, because that means they're less likely to fall victim to a random guy with a gun having a bad day, and they have to actively piss off the government and be involved or by chance in the way of their convoluted schemes, to be in danger from them It hurts victims of actual tragedies to deny it ever happened because you can't accept that such things could just happen, without you being able to do anything about it.

"Because if no one was in control, that would be terrifying" Holy fuck, that's something I've learnt the hard way when interacting with conspiracy theorists. The fact that the amount of evidence and logic sometimes doesn't matter and never will matter to them, because their belief in conspiracies is tied to their sense of security about the world They often don't understand the sciences or complex nuances behind the forces that shape major events in the world, whether that be a natural disaster or political, and they know that terrible things happen, but they don't understand why and how, even when given explanations. But conspiracies give them an answer they *do* understand, and that's a big part of not just why they believe in it, but cling to it, even in face of evidence to the contrary it gives them a sense of understanding and security about the world, and especially if it involves placing the blame of terrible world events on secret societies They act as a scapegoat to pin the blame of awful things on, and it helps add meaning to terrible actions that would otherwise happen just because they sometimes can't be stopped or understood It also makes them feel like they have some kind of forbidden knowledge, like an elite privvy to something that the average layman doesn't know and this gives them a sense of power, as well as assuring their anxieties about being ignorant to how the world works Conspiracies offer them an explanation where only they know the truth instead of being completely lost and confused about the world, and giving up that sense of truth to accept that we are lost and ignorant to many things about the world is terrifying to them, so they simply never will.
@goncalocarneiro30433 жыл бұрын
I am afraid there is no solution, though. As long as the human braind has flaws, people will remain divided and act coherently and rationally in some instances while being irredeemable in others. What keeps us together is that thankfully there's a safe overlap between what is acceptable and asked for of the majority that keeps us in this passive aggressive state of peace sort of.
@austin.paquette3 жыл бұрын
This year has taught me a lot about how people think and see themselves, and comparing themselves to others. Thinking they're too good to wear a mask in public or denying that the situation is even real, denying it's existence or danger because "that's just what they want you to think". Even my own mother is convinced by psychopath right wing communities online that COVID was merely created in a lab in China and released upon the world for population control. Why? Because the thought of something like it being able to be manifested through sheer coincidence and scientific possibility is just too far-fetched for them. Why us? Why now? It MUST be intentional. China bad. That's the idea the west has been fed for decades. The same mother who told me to not believe everything you see on the Internet, but also believes COVID is a hoax, everyone from the east is out to get us, and that ghosts are real.

@@austin.paquette Yeah, I mean engineered or natural, we need to stop blaming/complaining and start fixing, but of course anti vaxxers, vaccines are great but arguments such as population control killing off humans and unsafe vaccines does not support the fact that vaccine manufacturers want safe injections to profit. Most conspiracies only hold with real proof and facts, these make no sense unless you don't think deep. Making a dangerous vaccine does not mean profit for manufacturers, why would a vaccine manufacture want to make something of more harm, they will lose money seriously.

This is beyond eloquently written. I think it's of the utmost importance for people to understand that being so skeptical that you no longer believe anything, is just as dangerous and unwise as being gullible and accepting everything that you see as real. There is no room to grow or learn if your mind is already made up even before the information is presented to you. Thinking in extremes on this level will only limit every aspect of a person's life. Imagine the parallel of fully trusting every person you ever meet.Telling someone you hardly know all of your secrets and inner thoughts. Or having no trust for absolutely anyone, not even enough to tell a family member that you care or sympathize with them. It's the same concept, either way, you are really limiting and ultimately hurting yourself. I absolutely love this video and it's message. Thank you Captain, as well as your team for all of your hard work. PS~ The eyeball didn't bother me because I'm a Pixies fan and Un Chein Andalou is awesome. :)

The best part about this story to me is humanizing and sympathizing for people that believe these things, that the root of it isn't trying to be evil or offensive, but often a deniyal that bad things can happen and chaos is possible. Who would want to believe what happened at Sandy Hook? It's such a horrifying thought. After all, it's the first stage of grief to deny, and that's okay. As much as I've tried to learn to enjoy being wrong, I'm trying my best to recognize when people have a good reason to disagree with me, even if it's clear they're beliefs aren't based in reality. You continue to be relevant Captain.
@JimBob19373 жыл бұрын
I've tried working with such people, and have even turned a few around. One lady finally admitted she didn't actually believe in the vaccine conspiracy theory she was pushing and instead was just scared. However, most of them I have found are semi-dangerous people that are living outside of reality. Past a certain point you have to disengage with them or risk them coming after you (I've been accused of being paid off or part of the conspiracy before), as well as not supporting their views by refusing to acknowledge them. It's a tough world, and while I wish I could help them, and certainly humanize them, some are approaching mentally ill and needing more help than a simple discussion can provide.
@samuelhopely48533 жыл бұрын
@@JimBob1937 I follow your logic if the end goal is to change their mind. I do think we both know that such a thing is impossible. You can't save a drowning man if he thinks water is air. However in cases outside of life or death decisions like getting the vaccine, the stakes are just so much lower and sometimes it's good just to hear what they have to say, at least for me. Did Bush do 9/11? Most likely (absolutely) not. Does it matter if he did? Maybe, but we can all mourn the loss of so many people. Did Sandy Hook happen? If somebody is convinced it didn't, we can both agree that the loss of a child's life is a terrible thing and we should do everything we can to prevent such things. I'm not saying the goal is to find common ground, but it sure means a good deal to people when we can hear what they say but also hear what they mean. That said, man I have no idea how to help people that won't get the shot. Just breaks my heart.
