I admire your honesty for admitting that you have little credibility except to regurgitate the opinions of those you believe do. I agree with Gary that Taurasi's answer, "I'm takin' Paige. Next question." was dismissive, as were your interruptions of Gary's attempts to answer the questions being discussed.

I'm glad to see you take this "Clark trash-talking" thing up because I thought I was going crazy. I listened to Diana's comments in real time, and she said nothing that Caitlin hasn't said about herself in recent interviews: there's a learning curve, and it's a new level. In fact, that's what Clark says excites her the most: She's ready to learn. This is just a non-issue being inflated for clicks.

I did not tune to watch women’s basketball, nor did I tune in to watch SC; I tuned in to watch CC and Iowa’s team. And Taurasi did not have the grace to celebrate CC’s opening up women’s basketball to a diverse audience but instead offered an obvious fact in the manner of a pessimist which is that CC would need time to adjust to stronger and maturer competition in the WNBA. But why inject uncertainty into CC’s future when, in all likelihood, based on what I have read and observed, CC played so well in grade school that she had to play with boys, then she excelled in high school, and now she led her university team to send place. So CC has risen, adapted, and excelled at every higher level into which she graduated and made herself available. This means that CC adjustment to the WNBA would likely not be an issue, but would be an issue only to former players like Debbie Downer Taurasi.

Most rookies outside of Maya Moore struggle to some degree when going from facing off a team full of girls who will never see a professional court from inside the lines 25+ games a season to competing against a team FULL of PROFESSIONALS. Elle my dear you are too nice. My wife happens to be a 28 yrs psychologist with a masters in behavioral analysis, my daughter has two yeas of experience as a behavioral analyst with a bachelors in neuroscience psychology and a Ms on psychology and behavior analysis. I am 52 with a bachelor in sports and physical culture a ms in psychology of sports a MS in Physical Therapy and a master in occupational therapy. Let me tell you, we love DT as an athlete, but this was a disrespectful comment, you are trying to keep the status quo and all girls be supportive and in good terms among each other, very nice of you, but sadly it doesn’t work like that. DT could have tried like Sue, to make her case, like every body does, but not. I ll take Paige next question. And then she could had said , well we all are going to have an answer to if weather CCs game would transition to WNBA in the same fashion it has gone from jr to sr in college or from high school to college, it’s not going to be easy, but she has shown unparalleled courage, determination, resilience and ability to improve herself and her game, there should be a transition period let’s see how it goes . But nooo!!! Reality is coming, like you will wish (CC and fans) you stayed in college forever. That’s the reality of her comments, you just would like it to be different. Now in the other side of things and to support this theory, let’s remember sports is for the people, another form of entertainment, and a business. Sadly Paige has missed good part of her college career due to injuries, significant injuries that is. Which is a big reason for a smart coach or any other smart person would have to consider when picking between these two amazing guards. Furthermore, the difference in steals and blocks is not that big when looking at their stats. The % of points scored on shots taken favors a little bit more a Paige, however, one could argue that all teams prepare strong defense strategies to try to stop CC, and so she mostly more contested and pressured than Paige when trying to shoot, and the number of points CC scores are significantly higher than Paige’s..with a much more modest team, CC has been able to go further, especially now that they are more leveled on regards of maturity. Let’s remember that Paige is a few months older., developed earlier, but Clark has caught up big time..I think twice the amount of points maybe more , this season 32 points vs 21 Paige, and twice as many rebounds and assists ….look at the last matchup between their teams. When DT said Paige next question, she was not being smart, or fair, or realistic, she was being bias, and jealous…just the way it is..

There is a big difference between Taurasi and Clark when you talk about switching from College to the WNBA; Taurasi's average College Stats over her four years = PTS 15.0, TRB 4.4, AST 4.5 and she received 26 Awards & Honours Clark's average College Stats over her four years = PTS 28.4, TRB 7.1, AST 8.2 and she received 53 Awards & Honours But the real big difference between the two is Clark's ability to rise in the big games or when the team needs a lift where she can totally dominate, and if her "Logo Threes" are on, it's game over.

This is the most interesting part in team sports though! I think it's great that people are talking about the women in the same way they argue about that GOATs in the men's side of things (Jordan vs Kobe vs Lebron, Brady vs Montana vs Mahomes, etc.). How do you define GOAT status in a team sport? Is it individual stats? Individual accolades? Championships? I've watched women's college basketball since the early 2000s and that was when UConn was dominating. Taurasi was not even a starter her freshman year and in her sophomore, she was a starter with four great seniors. It's no surprise that Caitlin has more points and assists and so forth. But in team sport, you can't deny that stats reflect the team composition, style of play, etc. As great as Caitlin is, if people look at what Taurasi did her junior and senior year (2002-2003 and 2003-2004), I think that's a better comparison for the cast that Caitlin has, and I would always say that the most incredible thing Diana did in college was take that cast of "role players" to back-to-back championships without much help. Watching Caitlin the past couple of years, ironically, reminded me so much of Diana Taurasi in those years, and I was really hoping Caitlin could do the same and win the championship. I can't speak for Diana about the jealousy part, although it appears to be that way. The comment she has made (and other current and former players) has been cringe, but honestly, it's not any different from other sports when the "new kid" comes to town. I feel like it's the cycle of sports and the back-and-forth commentary, the supporters vs haters, etc. only drives interest for the league as a whole. People tune in for the storylines! In the end, it's all part of an entertainment business. With all of that said, Caitlin's impact in growing the game has been incredible. I hope the other players will see that the exposure from the "Caitlin Clark" effect is going to be good for the league and everyone, and people should embrace it.

It’s not that ppl don’t care about South Carolina, relative to Caitlyn Clark. The reality is that winning is not entertaining outside of a team’s fan base. Football Teams don’t run the spread because it wins-they run it because it’s entertaining. The wishbone and Wing-T are far more effective offenses for winning games, but it’s not entertaining. Clark is individually a better player and more entertaining player than any player on SCar’s roster. Staley has become the Nick Saban of WBB where winning is expected because the overall roster is far and away than every other roster. Sports is more about marketing than competition. Clark is an attraction to eyeballs and that’s marketing gold. That’s the part of the convo that ppl are overlooking.

Bill Burr said it right. Women would rather watch themselves tear each other down than watch themselves come together as a team to achieve a common goal. There is going to be a transition period for all rookies coming into the league BUT these pros should at least give Clark some props for what she's been able to achieve so far by breaking both womens & mens records. Even Lebron said "If you don't rock with Caitlin Clark game you're just a FLAT OUT HATER!!!!! Stay far away from them people!! PLEASE." Loved Elle, Chiney and Draya ALL March Madness from the VERY beginning and all the way thru ... But one thing you all missed out on is this: Iowa loved the infamous and great Vivian Stringer as much as they did CC when Vivian was bringing us wins (and yes, at times, sold out home games, and that was in the mid 80's to about early 90's). For those interested in recognizing fierce black women pioneers, there she was WORSHIPPED in lily--white Iowa. Look it up! ... And this time, Iowa supported the next wave of greatness in Clark -- and that excitement became contagious and spread nationwide this time ... Just thought I'd point it out. It's something Ive been reflecting on post March Madness after hearing about the dinner some of the current and past greats reportedly had leading up to the Championship game last week ... (Apparently Vivian had tried to recruit Dawn Staley back in the day! Who knew!?: )

Ugh, where do I start with my disappointment with Elle. She complained about people being biased and then showed how biased she is towards women by suggesting that we can't criticize them even when they are obviously, being snide, dismissive, misleading, and trying to take Clark down a peg because of jealousy. First of all, it's not just men that say that women are catty but a lot of women say it too. Second, men are often jealous towards other men, can be jerks towards them and are often criticized for this too -- just like women, it's just called something beside being caddy. Third, Taurasi is not -- nor is she known for being a great defender. In 19 seasons she has NEVER, repeat NEVER made an all defensive team in the WNBA (or college for that matter), and for example, averaged less than 1 (.9) steals a game in the WNBA. Fifth, when he brought up a good point that didn't fit her agenda she was dismissive, didn't counter it with logic, and then changed the subject. Sixth, a bright 12 year-old who follows sports knows there is a big gap in ALL sports so it wasn't necessary for her say to even say it (and no one complained about her pointing out that concept), especially the way Taurasi said it "Reality is coming" as if Clark isn't aware the level of competition goes up. Seventh, Taurasi lied/was misleading on purpose in an effort to minimize Clark's greatness (how could Elle miss that?) she said she playing against 18 year-olds when in fact Clark was playing against 18-23 (covid year for some) year-olds -- huge difference -- my gosh, she sounds like Sheryl Swoopes. When will these women learn their lesson? The jealousy of Clark by other women is unrelenting and self-defeating. If Clark succeeds all the women in the WNBA will make more money. Eight, then Taurasi said, "It may take a little bit longer for some people.", implying her game won't translate quickly (Rebecca Lobo and others have said just the opposite). And to me, it's obvious that (at least offensively), Clark's game will instantly translate quicker than any woman since Cheryl Miller. She is the greatest passer in women's basketball history (pro or college) and passing translates at any level. And the incredible distance and accuracy of her 3's will make her just as deadly at the next level. And her ulta-competitiveness, work ethic, clutchness, and assassin ability will help ease the transition. Nine, in the broadcast earlier Taurasi curtly said when asked who she would take between her and Paige Bueckers. "Paige, next question." It was as if to say that it's so clear that Bueckers is better that she doesn't have to justify her answer. (Again, how could Elle miss that?) Poppycock. It's clear that right now Clark is better than Bueckers even if it's slight (and it’s also clear to me at least that Clark will be a slightly better pro). Clark won all four Player of the Year awards and in the AP Player of the year voting Clark received 34 out of 35 votes and Bueckers received NONE (Cameron Brink received the other vote; I don't know the other vote counts, I'm sure they were similar). Ten, in my opinion Taurasi has foolishly poked the bear of an extremely talented offensive player (I’m aware of Clark’s defensive limitations) with Michael Jordan’s competitive brain. Taurasi will be 42 years old when they play on June 30th and if I was her I would be worried that Clark doesn’t drop 50 on her in one of the 3 games they play against each other this year. And after her jealousy fueled-smug comment, I think she deserves it.

All of the 3's she made were not enough for Clark/Iowa to take home the NCAA national championship Trophy or the Ring. Viewers were drawn to Caitlin Clark due to her logo 3s. I think her playmaking ability supercedes her shooting skill. Seeing the floor so well allows her to make pinpoint passes. She also has speed to outrun the defense, and quickness with tricky moves to fake out a defender. Her playmaking abilities don't waiver. I heard coach Sides of the Fever say, in an interview with Howard Megdal, that what they need is a player who can knock down wide open 3s. Caitlin should be able to do that and add her playmaking ability, paired with Kelsey Mitchell, to help meet the coach's goal of making the playoffs.

Years ago I “discovered” Paige on KZfaq when she was a h.s. sophomore and started to follow her. She is the reason I started watching UConn women’s b-ball ( I occasionally watched my Lady Longhorns in seasons that they had a strong team). When Paige wasn’t injured, I watched almost every UConn game. Prior to this year I occasionally heard Caitlin’s name and dismissed her because she wasn’t Paige. Heck, I was more familiar with Hailey Van Lith than with Caitlin. But then in January 2024 I saw a highlight of Caitlin and I was hooked. I had to watch every Iowa game after realizing how special CC was. When Iowa played UConn in the Final Four, I was rooting for Iowa, but also wanted the UConn players I had become familiar with, especially Paige, to shine. I was glad Iowa won bc I thought they had a better chance of beating the Gamecocks than UConn did. Plus, I really wanted to see Caitlin play one more time and have a chance at that trophy. That first half of the Finals showed how special Iowa could be when they brought their A-game. Congratulations to a very strong SC team, who deserved to hoist the Championship trophy this year. However, without CC, the viewership might have been 10 million less.

Btw, Diana T, Paige is very good, but neither she nor any other college basketball player, men or women, can shoot threes like Caitlin. Plus, CC’s stats are better than Paige’s. You picking Paige over Caitlin dismissively sounded disrespectful and not logical (and that’s coming from a huge Paige fan since Paige was a sophomore at Hopkins H.S.) and risks you alienating 10 million+ CC fans who wouldn’t have watched the finals without Caitlin Clark. Yes, Diana T., you’ve recognized CC’s accomplishments at times, but your tone about CC sometimes sounds like you’re a hater. Jealous perhaps? Elle Duncan’s analysis sounds more objective and reasonable, so she avoids alienating those 10 million+ CC fans.

I think what Diana said is being a bit overblown, but at the same time, does she seem jealous? Yes absolutely lol. Caitlin Clark has the potential to bring in a whole new level of phenomena to the WNBA. Who does that threaten? The current players. There are not a lot of teams, and therefore not a lot of slots for players. You have to be ready to ball. When young blood comes in, that threatens the old guard. I don’t see how that’s any different than when Kobe entered the league. There is a young star coming in that FANS are looking to see, history be damned. Both things can be true. Diana provided an analysis, and yes she’s also jealous of Caitlin Clark lol. Telling new fans to “shut up and listen” is actually wild for a league that was not getting much attention as is.

DT is 41 she should be a bit more mature and gracious on her way out and embrace CC for what she has done. For women’s b ball 45 records she broke didn’t win a championship also she didn’t join a loaded team, she carried her amazing team and made them better players. Caitlin’s b ball defence is something her coach decides if she wants CC to play hard defence, if she gets into foul trouble no one can replace her on the court, smart coaching if you know basketball. It’s a lot easier to win championships if you join a loaded team rather than making a team great. 3 ex Ucon players commentating on the Ucon -Iowa game is ridiculous, DT’s answer “Paige next question” has I’m jealous written all over her face shame on her as I said she is 41 she should be better.

This is funny. Caitlin has to play 40 minutes each game. PLUS run the entire IOWA offense on her own (full of three and two stars) to produce like 60 points for that number 1 offense team, at their crazy pace while still being an average defender (because she seems like she rests on that phase more so to endure all that) and still lead the team in basically every stat on offense/ defense/ rebounding/ etc. Paige has 2 future WNBA players on her team. With a PG that is their franchise career ASSIST leader. a scoring inside threat. And players around her--as well as the bench they have/ would have had if not for injuries full of 5 stars. A HOF coach that will make all the rotations needed to win. Yet, despite an easier workload, she underperforms compared to Caitlin. Defensively, Caitlin is bigger, taller, stronger, and more agile. However, she's not really doing it unless needed because she has to run offense. Paige can take it easy since she has WNBA talent on her team. Switch the two and Caitlin lights it up and is winning titles. Paige isn't carrying this IOWA team anywhere. Caitlin is definitely a way smarter player and has better play than Paige, and way way way better all-around, regardless of how much the media speaks about it. Paige missed a year; so, it's obvious Clark is better.

Because you're a fan. Give me a break. Everyone and their mother has seen and heard these bitter WNBA b.tches going off on Clark for nothing other than jealousy. I love the fact how all of a sudden bitter b.tch Taurasi has all the sudden went online and mentioned some kind words for Clark because of all the flack people are giving her. Women and their jealousy. Unbelievableble

Agreed. She didn’t say anything that isn’t stated about any college player going pro. It’s an all different level.

i totally see the jealousy from veterans and old heads. but i get elle and gary’s sides!!! why does it have to be hate because someone chooses paige as if she’s not on the same level as cc in her own right COMING OFF INJURY. but i also didn’t like dt’s delivery, which is why i agree with gary! people are starting to slightly drag out this jealousy narrative into EVERY women’s bball debate and it makes it clear as day who is a new fan and who isn’t. period.

We get it Elle = you got the memo from ESPN, that you have to talk about Caitlin indefinitely for no logical/rational reasons, while ignoring that she's lost TWO "National Championships" in a row, which is TERRIBLE for anyone, but fantastic for South Carolina, who's probably going to do it again next season = this shows ignorance levels increase every episode

This Gary dude must have been told by the producers to come with these counterpoint because his arguments are ridiculous & proving Elle's point. Charles, Chuck etc. have said much worse about potential NBA players/college stars in commentary. Old NBA players always hating. Same with football. Elle is right, this is gender stereotyping & bias.

I guess Caitlin Clark is completely irrelevant to the success of women’s basketball the past three years…. She’s absolutely nothing special if you listen to all these people. They either outright hate or low-key throw her shade but can never just give her the credit she deserves without the ever present ‘but’ in the commentary.

The fact that Iowa, and Clark, were denied their chance at honest fair play, and worse they were bullied, insulted, threatened, and degraded along the way, shows how broken women's basketball is - and why it has been dead on the popularity vine for decades. Clark and the Iowa Way showed a way out from this. A way towards a competitive model that would have the whole country embracing the tournament each year. Let each 5 star go to her own team, and just one or two 4 stars with them. Then let the rest be regular players and then all together let them find their way to build the best team together. Then let the games begin. If they did this then there would be new Clark's arising (well maybe not quite to her level) at least enough that different teams around the country would be in the Final Four every year (instead of the same 5 that have one 67% of all championships). We could do this, or we could go back to praising sport-killing-all-star teams, or rather to the media praising them for the few homers while the rest of the country returns to ignoring the lack of sport in women's basketball.
