And no one bothers to think of root rot from the constant source of water. Snake plants and pothos love dry soil. Yes water it but not as often as most.

I agree with you on snake plants, I've lost several to root rot from wet feet.. but I grow pothos emersed in my aquariums with the roots in water 100% of the time.

@@alexs4446 pothos can survive in water as long as there is not soil on the roots. I water propogate all the time. But the roots wont grow as fast and strong and it would in proper soil.

It travels ut the rope and into the dirt. Many plants are better to water by letting it travel up like that, rather than straight onto the soil. You don't neccesarily need a rope to do that though. If you place the plastic pot with holes on the bottom into a lagrer pot and put the water in the larger one you get the same effect. It travels up the dirt through the holes. It's how I water mine

That's a recipe for root rot. Snake plants like to dry out between waterings. I water once before winter hits and leave it for a month or two. Checking it to make sure it's ok. Water maybe two to three times in the summer depending on where each snake plant is located and how much heat it gets. (110° regularly in my area in summer)

I've used this method for my Palm tree type plants and a few others to keep the soil moist so it doesn't dry out.

Yo tengo varias de estas plantas y no le pongo casi riego, excepto cuando está la tierra muy seca y tampoco tiene tanta tierra. No necesita demasiados cuidados, es muy noble

ive gone 6 months without watering my snake plant and it never dies. it requires very little attention. you dont even have to go all through this. unnecessary but a cool project.

I have a collection! The majority in substrate but, also in reservoir! They do grow in water… Now ! I haven’t experimented in substrate and then water reserve. 🧐 a must try… Thanks for the video 😍👍

No meu país, Brasil, essa planta com as bordas amarela é conhecida como espada de Santa Barbara, a toda verdinha sem as bordas amarelas é conhecida como espada de São Jorge. É muito usada nos terreiros ( templo) de umbanda, religião de matriz africana sincretizada com o cristianismo. Ela é usada quando incorporam o orixá Ogum e a de Santa Barbara para saldar o orixá Oxum.

They dont NEED dirt. A glass container is all they require!! I have several snake plants/Mother in laws tongue growing around my home both in dirt and water.

i did this with an indoor basil plant and it works well because basil is very dramatic, with limp leaves looking like it is dying of thirst. it dries out quickly, in my dry heat apartment. I was watering ever 1.5 days. i don't think I would try this with a succulent/snake/jade/cactus because they carry their own water and if watered a little once a month or two, that is more than enough. this is root rot waiting to happen.

Inaccurate title. It should be self watering snake plant. The cotton rope wicks water into the media, in this case coco coir. The plant will absorb water as it grows and the cotton rope wicks water up accordingly. The water needs to be changed often or bacteria will grow. Many people use the same concept to grow crops in their yards.

Hey yall if you let those rootbound snakes get crowded in the pot, it will send up a new shoot and bloom for you. But they wont bloom any other way!

I'm really sorry to say, but this will cause your snake plants to rot. They are a type of succulent, and they should be in a chunky soil that drains fast. It should be left to dry out, and water only once a month, or less.

When the cotton cord is inserted through the hole in the bottom of the pot like this one it’s supposed to be “ the plant gets a drink when it’s thirsty” . I appreciate the information everyone has offered because I bought one and it died so, I recently bought a new one to try my luck with it. This one I set on my desk beside my light ( I think I put a 40 watt bulb 💡 in the lamp). Thank you, guys , for the helpful information. 😊

а у нас это растение называется "щучий хвост", при цветении выпускает стрелки и на них распускаются метёлки в виде мелких беленьких цветочков.

Es un cordón de tela que absorbe el agua y por ese medio le transporta agua a la planta.

Every time I’ve tried propagating with cut leaves they rot in the water dish. Even when they were upright with twine in between them to help them stand. I gave up on it after two fails.

After I saw that the plant would 'wander', I let the fabulous creature find its way, choosing its own course, and it has become very strange and charmingly happy. It is a little hilarious, though... after a year it looks like an abstract moose-head. Yeah, I know. My friends don't see it either...
