Having spent nearly 35 years on the job, being crowned a 3-time Stanley Cup champion and having been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame over a decade ago, the 78 year old is still seen as one of the best in his field to this very day. @@893263007 I think it was Pat Quinn who hated high jersey numbers. Pavel Bure wasn't allowed to wear #96 but had to wear #10 instead. Then Quinn left Vancouver, and Bure changed to #96, only to change back to #10 one and a half or so years later because he sucked in #96.

New York Yankees were notorious for the same policy. I think nowadays in NY state it's actually illegal for an employer to enforce these kind of hair policies but by now it's more of a team culture thing.

Lou is a living legend. He turned the Devils from a "Mickey Mouse" franchise to a constant contender; from a joke, to a respected organization. He is exactly what a team like the Sabres need right now.

Technically, Jim Rutherford has 3 Stanley Cups as does Stan Bowman I think. Rutherford retired but he was active this season so I’m counting him, so yeah Lou isn’t the only one

I remember the Sens adopting the jersey number policy in the 90's where every player had to have a number between 1-35, (Radek Bonk had to change his 76 to a 14)

I like his approach. Ice hockey will always be a team game. That's why team importance > individual importance. Discipline is the first thing. Be humble and always collectively strive. If you want some privacy and individuality, earned it. Absolutely a great management guy.

Part of the reason the Devils didn’t allow anyone to wear #13 is that when the organization was first moved to NJ, Dr. McMullen promised the Archbishop of Newark that the team would in no way encourage or promote devil (satan) worship. Thirteen has that distinction of being unluckily too. When Lou’s tenure sadly came to an end with the Devils, that restriction was lifted. Not sure if It was something personal Lou has always carried about #13.

The New York Yankees used to have a facial hair policy. They won a bunch of championships during that time. Lou has 3 cups. Hard to argue with that much success.

If the players hate him they won't hate each other. Devils won cups, maple leafs look to be contenders and same with islanders. I do agree with the facial hair policy %100 save the beards for the playoffs. Unless your earned that beard like jumbo Joe

Personally I think the no facial hair policy is absurd. The NHL already has a problem with suppressing player personality and expression compared to the other major leagues. I also think facial hair has its perks for a sport where you're speeding around in a cool arena on ice at 30-40 km/h. I'd also rather be high sticked to the face with a full beard vs clean shaven, that's just me.
