The continent was nearly empty. Spread across what is today the US and Canada there were between 1-3 million natives at their population peak, roughly the late 1600s. At the same time the population of just England was 5.2 million. North America was mostly empty land inhabited by a collection of often waring tribes.
@StormWidgeon
@StormWidgeon Жыл бұрын
@@lookoutforchris For centuries tribes would be at war, one killing the other. It is well documented in indian war journals and historic documents that when one tribe over took a different tribe, it would kill every last man, woman and child to stop the blood line and keep it from being introduced to their own. By the Indian own rules, the only mistake American's ever committed was to not kill every last indian when we took over the land. Instead we as Americans showed mercy and gave them alternative places to live instead of killing them, which again was their own way of life. Now look at how that has worked out for Americans, nothing but the victim card demanding tax payers money for generations. Indians should have been more grateful they were not beaten by another tribe, or many other countries which would have turned them all into fertilizer long ago.

To be fair, both Alaska and the Louisiana territory (to a lesser extent) were only relatively lightly inhabited by Russians and French, They were mostly just selling their claim to the lands. The United States after buying them still had to subjugate the natives and develop the land. There are virtually no signs remaining of the Russian colonization of Alaska, and apart from a few place names, the French colonization of the Louisiana territory is only shown in the much smaller land of the state of Louisiana.

Which leaves a lot out and some untruths included . Napoleon did not sell the Louisiana territory because of fear of losing it. Napoleon just lost his most productive colony ( Haiti) which constituted 40% of the French economy. He needed money yo continue his wars in Europe. That was the reason for the sale. So the reason was: The Haitian Revolution.

Morocco was one of the first countries to recognize the newly independent United States, opening its ports to American ships by decree of Sultan Mohammed III in 1777. Morocco formally recognized the United States by signing a treaty of peace and friendship in 1786, a document that remains the longest unbroken relationship in U.S. history, Edit : The first American public property outside the United States presented by Sultan Moulay suliman to the united state in 1821 in Tangier, it commemorates the historic cultural and diplomatic relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Or the battle of Cartagena de Indias when 3000 Spanish soldiers with less than 50 ships smashed a whole English fleet, sinking more than 400 ships and sending to the grave more 15,000 soldier and wounding another 10,000? Or The Jenkins war? Or maybe the US independence from Britain supported by Spain? Or the The Western Design War? Or The 30 Years War? There's many more just study a bit... Or maybe you want to speak about the actual war in witch the Great Armada was involved? Did you know that Spain won that war? And for instance secured its world dominance?Do you know what was the purpose of the Great Armada? Probably not so i will tell you. The Great Armada left Spain's north ports in August 1588 in order to CONQUER England. Bad meteorologic conditions and bad cartography lead to the sinking of plenty of it's ships but the British only manage to sink 1! Spain still managed to win the war and to take it's position as the world superpower it was and to locked it for centuries. So, no, I do not agree at all, Spain was France and England worst nightmare for centuries. Specially England. I know some people, due to their political agendas and ideologies are not going to be happy with this video, but I thought this was very well laid out and unbiased. I love the U.S., but we're in no way perfect, and our history very much shows that, as do almost all other countries histories. However, it's only by being aware of our mistakes and by making the changes needed in order to become better can we ever truly hope to make America better. Again, great job!

I just love this country, we couldve easily been like Russia or China if those in power chose to take our country down that route. They didnt. They've always taken the American people into consideration. American people didnt like slavery, they changed it. They didnt like prohibition, they changed it. They didnt like the lack of women's rights, they changed it. So on, so forth. They have always supported the side of democracy. No where in this video was the US government fighting on the wrong side (politically speaking). Even in the civil war, the government fought with the Union. I'm not saying were perfect and I know the government has a huge amount of issues, secrets and so on so forth and yes I realize slavery was a thing. Well he over simplifies and misrepresents the facts in a misleading way. For example the vast majority of natives died as a result of contagious diseases from the settlers as they were not immune. This was not intentional. He misrepresents by making it appear that they were intentionally slaughtered. Furthermore it is a known fact that conquest was the law of the land for native tribes where they killed each other to obtain land long before the settlers came so they were hardly innocent. Did you know that the largest slave owner in Virginia was African American?

@@calidude1114 He does simplify the history quite a lot, but I don't think he does so in a misleading way. As you said, it is well-known that Amerindians killed and conquered each other, so I don't think it is necessary to state this in order to understand the context of American expansion, except maybe for people who severely lack understanding of historical context.

That's not a mistake, much less a BIG one. It's a difference of opinion between you and the creator on what the word "support" entails, which might be due to your presumably native roman language thinking. Personally, I think support entails everything from weapons supplies, money, troops, just everything.

Guess again. Colonizing is a term used for conquering a land NOT adjacent to yours otherwise ALL warfare is colonizing. That would mean that when one of the over 500 tribes conquered their neighbor and enslaved and stole their land that they colonized them. Sound kinda stupid now, right? Just warfare and being the winner. Hella better than the loser.

Strange thing is USA saved China from even more destruction and made China wealthy and they quickly turned communist. So now, China is about to be broken similar to USSR. USA is stopping all trade and pulling all US business manufacturing out of China. China will be broke before this is even finished, probably in or before 2028. PEACE!

in school in the US i swear the part about the colonists wanting to conquer the native americans rather than allow them to have a state(s) west of the colonies was heavily downplayed as a motivation for war lol. it makes the British look better and the colonists look a little worse. it doesn't contribute to the glorification of the colonists and the American project.

One of the reasons why there were so many US settlers in Mexican Texas was that The Mexican Empire and its successor The United Mexican States (a Republic) had abolished slavery and any man that crossed to any Mexican territory or State, got automatic asylum and obtained formal freedom. Additionally they were granted with shelter, land. loans and legal protection.

@@elysiumstation I know. But without agressive American method against the Soviets, half the world would still be Commies. They fell because the West started to massively weaponize and the East tried to keep up. However Eastern economies couldn't handle that and the people were struck with poverty. @Clem Cornpone Fellow American here, we still treat Puerto Rico, Guam, The Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands as colonies. They can vote in primary elections but not general elections and congress decides all national matters and can veto their local laws yet these people get not say about who is in congress. Puerto Rico has more people than a lot of states yet when Hurricane María hit our government didn't help them like when Houston was hit by Hurricane Harvey. The UN even keeps a list of territories that are still basically colonies and surprise surprise several US territories are there. These people have US passports can freely move to any US state and have the same rights as us once their in one of the 50 states, but as long as they reside in their territory they're basically a colony with no voting powers.

Quinn Stone Panama is essentially a creation of the US. Colombia refused to make a deal with the US, so the US then financed Panamanian rebels in their fight to secede. They understood this was the US’s intention the moment they accepted their money; it was a business deal.
