Shaan Kassam returns and expands on a Coach Daniel's pick of favorite teachings. We find a remarkable similarity in philosophies that have grown independently of each other.
Much to learn her if you have suffered from anxiety, insomnia or any other internal struggle.

I started watching it - and Adam, part of me becomes so sad when we see someone using their authority to make claims that there are just 0, I mean 0 evidence for… and have that type of reach. Man, we have a looong way to go. But - we will get there, one Heard online episode at a time! This will be next Tuesday

Oh my god! SO much truth is in this video! Shaan is an incredible guest with such a simple and straightforward way of explaining things. Loved how he said that we need to let go of the idea of finish line in recovery because it is indeed about outgrowing the problem. I also liked that he acknowledged how we can become the prisoners of concepts such as "setbacks" - because at some point of the recovery figuring out whether you are in a setback or not (or in a speedbump or not) becomes irrelevant!

Wasn’t it amazing 😊! The outgrowing idea/analogy, it really resonate with me as well. And - the similarities in how we have found the very same things and just have different names, that was just so remarkable!

Great episode here - love Shaan's comments about framing progress/success as about how your responding, rather than how you feel. Easy to fall back into the latter, which, as you say, really sets us up for struggle. I wonder if either of you have encountered David K Reynolds work on "constructive living" which really takes the same focus away from symptoms (esp. feelings, thoughts - uncontrollable) and onto action ("what did you DO next?"). It's such an empowering message when your "success" measure is actually something within your control, rather than something beyond it.

I love when you guys get together. Both of you have helped me immensely through some tough times. Any chance you can do this with Trey Jones? He had tons of sleep issues when he had anxiety and I think would be an interesting conversation.

You said “There’s nothing you can do to make sleep happen”. It sort of resonates, but what if I always fall asleep while pleasant thinking? Surely anxious thinking prevents sleep, so it seems there actually IS a thing to do - think pleasantly.

Mm yes good point! I’d say, pleasant thinking, that’s nice and sets the stage for sleep, but we can’t control thoughts, when we try to have pleasant thoughts so we can sleep…it becomes doing, and then there’s some struggle

I’m starting to see and understand how practicing acceptance can turn into an effort, but is there a way to move towards true acceptance or is it just a twisty windy unpredictable journey? Also, I just want to say to both of you, I can totally understand how it gets old answering the same questions but thank you for doing so because people really feel met where they’re at. When I ask detailed questions I know I’m not asking anything unique, but it’s so comforting to be seen exactly where I’m at.

@@johnmonk3381so when it comes to sleep I don’t get your context. How can a person truly accept that they’ll be in this horrible state forever? How can one truly accept seeing all these stories of success because hope is something that’s keeping acceptance at bay. How does one deal with all of this?
