The Unreal Newsreel (1923) - rare silent comedy film

This was a short-lived film series created by the Fox Film Corporation to create humorous phony newsreel by re-using clips from older Fox Sunshine Comedies. Many of the Fox Sunshine's are lost so some of these clips are all we have of many of these films.

I just found one of these 18 mm films at an estate sale. It's in pretty good condition. It's the section of this that clips in at @8:35 "Rubberset, Idaho" . It appears they spliced these together to create the entire film as part of the "Brooklyn, New York" short is at the beginning. I was told this reel came from the storage of a 100 year old theatre that was renovated.

Most of the William Fox/Fox Film library was lost in a 1937 fire. Prints in theatre storage or kept by collectors are about all that's left.

I came to this video thinking how crazy it will be, as the decades advance, to watch still relatable or “watchable” old films, like John Wayne, or Howard Hughes coming up soon. I then thought what it will be like for humans alive in 2077, if they will have a 100 year anniversary of Star Wars, and people will be actually entertained by a 100 year old film, or if it will feel so old and remote like this old ‘23 picture does. Hopefully there are people alive and well in 2077, and they watch old classics and use it as a sort of cultural Time Machine :)
