I feel like the word ‘entrepreneur’ has become synonymous with ‘I’m still trying to figure out what I am doing.’ There's nothing wrong with that, but the word is overused, even when people are unemployed.

Very true. The professional title "Entrepreneur" used to inherently suggest one has success in the business in which they are engaged. Now it's been reduced to a crutch-phrase for the unemployed to sound successful in enterprise.

I think there needs to be more female venture capitalists. African women who invest only in other African women to avoid these unwanted advances from African men. I think if we as women start to take away opportunities to be harassed things will improve. Just my two cents.

I resonate with a lot of what she said. When I'm in Ghana and it's Sunday, I get lots of invitations to go to church. Once a while I attend but I don't vibe with the members so I don't go most of the time. I just like observing people dressed nicely on Sundays and wonder. Yes, we're very colonized and it shows in everything and I get in arguments with people close to me who don't see eye to eye and we leave it at that. It's not sad to me; just frustrating sometimes.

Ghanaians in Ghana still act like slaves. It will take some years to wash them off of the colonial mindset. Maybe even never.

@@py20 Short answer……most Ghanaian church members place their faith in their pastor, for a start. For a lot, he (sometimes a she but that’s rare) is even more important than their family or partners. This attitude mirrors how they view their political leaders too, even when they’re doing wrong. For, they’ve been taught that the leaders are intelligent and know-it-all whereas the followers job is to obey and seek for miracles through those leaders. That idea comes from the previous European domination (called colonialism) which the social and political elites have maintained for their own benefit.

@@mrw1762 No one should place their faith in a man, be he a pastor or politician. But I'm curious: how did you come by the conclusion that "MOST ... place their faith in their Pastor?" How do you substantiate that?

@@py20 It's quite simple. I grew up there. Walk around every evening of the week in the neighborhoods, you'll hear and see hoards of people in all sorts of churches with loud speakers blaring. Marriages and family and life issues pass through their pastors first. There's total devotion to what the pastor says that trumps everything else. It's shocking but real.

I really enjoyed this interview and I learned a few things while watching. There's so much wisdom in the world and talking to everyday ordinary people is how we access most of it. Great convo, ladies! One thing I'd like to look into more that your guest mentioned is the Ewe migration and even possible Hebrew connections. I've never done my DNA testing to find out where my ancestors hail, but one of my cousins and my dad have (we all share the same ancestry). It was discovered that, before enslavement, some of our DNA is Ewe and so I've long been curious about this group (and a few others that showed up, as well). Also, I had NO idea about the abuses of patriarchy there. Guess Ghana is no different than the U.S. and other parts of the world in that regard. 😡 Interesting tidbits on marriage, too. I've written a somewhat controversial book on the subject, but mostly from a western/Christian perspective, so I find conversations about the marriage process from a Ghanian perspective quite intriguing. Again, well done ladies and thank you for the food for thought!

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the sexual exploitation of women is just swept aside as it's just Ghana. The creepy misogynist's behaviour simply wouldn't be tolerated in the west. These men would be convicted in the UK and put on the sex offenders list for life.
