I love the web shooters as they demonstrate Peter’s scientific genius, however it is kinda weird how he wouldn’t get organic webbing with the powers from the Spider. So I don’t mind either way really.

As much as I LOVE the animatronic Gobby mask, the regular mask just works better to me. It focuses more on his "human" side. Also I heard somewhere that perhaps the "web-shooters" were actually just going to help Peter _control_ the organic webbing. This idea makes loads of sense when you consider that perhaps the scene of him learning to shoot his webs at the crane was done much later, when they decided to go full organic.

I've always liked the organic web shooters, and was shocked to learn that they aren't what most spidey's have.

Thanks for the clarification and shout out....but Alex didn't do a "refined" design of mine. He just did a painted version from an existing drawing I did.

Not using the animatronic Goblin mask just because it looks too scary is a dumb complaint in a movie where Goblin has so many jump scare scenes.

I always felt that they should've mixed the concepts of organic webbing and web shooters. Like have Peter's body make the webbing, but to release it from his body and in so many unique ways (web blasts vs standard web lines), he needs to web shooters to do so.

The Black and Red Suit is incredible!! Imagine it’s locked in a studio somewhere… I wonder how much money it would be worth and I’d absolutely love to have it.

I love the first Spider-Man movie and I love the Green Goblin's mechanical mask. But to be honest, just looking at the alternate, animatronic mask, it's so comic-accurate and I actually prefer that design over the official mask in the movie. A lot of people complain that the Goblin's movie suit looks like something out of Power Rangers, which I personally think the suit is fine, but if Willem Dafoe returns as Green Goblin in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 3, to please others, Marvel could give him the animatronic mask if the MCU Goblin is from an alternate universe from the Raimiverse or if Marvel just doesn't want to use the classic 2002 look.

That red-black suit and animatronic goblin suit would've made this movie a heck of a nightmare fuel back then

I think the original Goblin suit is a classic but I WIDELY prefer the animatronic mask. Also if the other Spider-man suit didn’t have the webbing on the blue I would have preferred that too.

The idea of organic web shooters dates back to 1992 with Spider-Man 2099

I read the early 1999 script for Raimi's Spider-Man that had Doctor Octopus in it and he was described as nothing like how he did in the concept art. Instead, he was described as having jet-black hair, very pale and fat as if he'd never stepped outside of his basement before. The tentacles were more like the Ultimate and SM2 with them being held up around his waist. But after Norman and Outto have a brief argument after being fired by Norman Osborn, there's an accident in the lab that causes the green smoke to fill the room and Outto's mechanic arms go haywire and weld into his flesh and we later see him shirtless watching the parade fight on TV in his apartment and we see his torso is horribly burned with the metal. He doesn't really have much in the plot, but more of a set-up. His motivation in the script was to get revenge on Norman Osborn. He was also the one to attack Jamison, asking if he could find someone who takes the pictures of Spider-Man to tell Spider-Man to get Goblin for him. But Peter steps in to reveal himself and Ock threatens him to find Spider-Man (a la SM2.) The entire third act was hugely different. There was no saving the kids, no fight in that abandoned building, no Osborn being killed. It was instead set in a foggy winter morning where Norman gives letters to MJ, Peter and Harry to all meet up at Oscorp where Goblin tries to kill Harry and Peter as eventually kidnaps MJ where Peter has to buy a Spider-Man costume after he burned his original one earlier, and he chases him on the bridge, where Doc Ocks's there, telling Spider-Man to kill Norman. But Goblin doesn't die in this version. MJ jams a pumpkin bomb in his glider where it explodes and he falls into a giant spider web and is arrested by the FBI with Doc Ock watching at the distance in rage that Spider-Man didn't kill Osborn, setting him as a more established villain for a sequel and getting revenge on Spider-Man someday.

Ngl the scrapped Spider-Man suits made the trilogy look more mature/serious or even creepy, especially because Raimi had a thing for horror movies

The organic Web-Shooters definitely surprised me when I saw Spiderman movie in the theater for the first time all the way back in 2002. With that being said, I actually really liked that idea. Just like Sam Raimi, I thought it was really cool that his organic Web Shooters were apart of Peter’s mutation. It added another level to his superhuman abilities. I also really liked how the costume they came up with for Spiderman. It has all the elements of his iconic costume from the comics all the while being something new that we haven’t seen before. The raised webbing on the suit was also another really nice touch. It added some very necessary texture to his overall look. Sam Raimi and company did a phenomenal job bringing Spidey to life on the big screen. To this day I still think that the first Spiderman movie remains to be the most star-struck movie I’ve ever seen and my most anticipated movie I’ve ever seen.

I think one of those military concepts of green goblins gets an appearance in one short scene when they're testing out the glider at the beginning of the movie with a play tester showing off the glider to the investors or whatever they are.

I feel like you didn't include the full context behind his decision.

alot of the unused concepts made it into 2002 spider man game on ps2 including the alex ross suit and when u change spider man suit it also changes green goblin original design and believe or not in the game they somehow made him use web cartridge even tho the movie he has organic webbing but alot of the stuff u mention is in the game activision somehow pulled it off. so its not really unexplored material, but it is good to look back to on what could've been.

I much prefer Raimi's approach of creating a logical movie with elements of the comics that made sense. Instead of the current approach, with is just be comic accurate regardless if it's a good idea or not.

I think the choice of making the webs organic was a good choice for this interpretation. It makes total sense that being able to create organic webs would come with the rest of the spider powers. Also keep in mind that X-Men was pretty big at this time so having mutations where you get all of the actual powers of the spider makes sense

I think the best way to have both the organic and mechanical web shooters would be Peter losing his powers in Spider-Man 2 and being forced to make web shooters for a little bit until his powers returned. But that's just an idea.

Organic webbing was something I thought was really great about Tobey's Spiderman, and it surprises me a little that most people prefer mechanical web shooters. Glad it got a bit of a joke about it in No Way Home 🙂

Dang, that Goblin mask scares me and I'm not even a kid! Seriously though, I never had a problem with the Goblin's appearance in the movie, but I sure do now having seen what he could have looked like!

The black Spider-Man suit HEAVILY resembles Assassin Spider-Man, I wonder if Marvel were inspired by the original concept suit when making Assassin Spidey (A really cool Spidey, his web shooters were replaced with guns and he was trained by Logan). LOVE that animatronic Goblin, would've preferred it, but it certainly is haunting and looks uncomfortable.

I feel like the reason why people call the black and red suit, the Alex Ross suit, and not the David Williams suit is probably because people found Ross’s take on the suit much more recognizable and iconic.

The animatronic mask looks more like it would be Osborne's actual face but transformed into the Goblin's. This would make the self-reflection scenes different as he would not be able to address the helmet when he "talks" to the Goblin. He would have to just quickly transform in and out of the Goblin. Would be interesting though.

Y’know, looking at some of the concept art you pointed out, it almost gives the impression that the artists were trying to draw to Sam Raimi’s reputation at the time of being a horror movie maker (It’s likely the artists knew him from his Evil Dead trilogy).

I prefer the organic webbing than webshooters. Those tools are liable. Tobey Maguire spidey is the perfect example.

The animatronic actual monster goblin mask, I don't think would've worked for storyline purposed. But the Hanser look could've worked on some level. The mechanical goblin mask could change expressions perhaps, But frankly I like what we got.

Man we were robbed of something truly great by getting rid of that Goblin mask. Pains to see the test footage cuz it looked absolutely fantastic. What I wouldn't give to go to the parallel dimension where the mask was used.
