Star Wars Episode 1 was the FIRST movie that got me into the franchise and i still love it today. Though i will say that Revenge of the Sith is the best out of the Prequels.

When people mock Episode I, believe me I get it. But two things I will defend about it are that considering all the flaws this movie has, the good stuff overshadows the bad. And I still believe The Phantom Menace is better than Attack of the Clones.

That Yoda quote makes sense to me, not only does it describe the human path that often leads to suffering around the world, but it could double as an indicator that the Jedi have become stifled and stagnated.

I love this. episode 1: "fear" leads to the dark side according to Yoda episode 3: the Jedi are "afraid" that Anakin is getting to close to Palpatine, in other words the jedi have contradicted their own teachings.

Yoda's line: "Fear is a path to the dark side. Fear leads anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." This line describes Anakin's life leading to his fall and becoming Darth Vader. Anakin fears losing his mother, meaning that she will not survive without him with her, that is what he fears. His fears are realized in Ep 2, when his mother dies in his arms and he becomes angry at the tuskens because he blames them for killing Shmi. His anger stays with him through out the Clone Wars and it builds with the losses of friends, battles, and the sacrifices he had to make in order to save a friend or conquer a battle. That anger then builds to the boiling point of hate when he gets "trapped" on Coruscant during the last days or weeks leading to the end of the Clone Wars, until he falls to the dark side for righteous meanings but ends up losing sight of those meanings. After fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi and being left for dead on the lava banks of Mustafar, the last bit of Yoda's line comes true: Anakin's hate carried him through the fight until the very end when he falls to the lava banks, burning and suffering. He remained suffering for the rest of his life until Luke saves him in Ep 6. This is why Anakin's story through out the six main films is a tragedy.

So, apparently there's a fan-theory going around saying Jar-Jar was originally intended to be a Sith Lord for the prequel trilogy....But due to fan outcries, he was replaced by Count Dooku.

It always bugged me as a kid the whole "anikin is too young to be trained as a jedi" because when i was around that age when i got into star wars, and it kinda was a dick move to have a movie where every 7-30 year old kid want to be a jedi, and then have it so the movie literally is like, nope, your too old. No jedi for you.

Watching Nute Gunray being dubbed over by Lu Kim’s lines kinda makes me want to see an edition of the prequels with Trey Parker voicing Gunray in his “stereotypical Asian” voice.

Episode I: The Phantom Menace 6/10 (movie has great soundtrack and few memorable scenes. I wasn´t bored) Episode II: Attack of The Clones 4/10 (dialogs, romance just eew, only highlight of the movie is Obi-wan vs. Jango) Episode III: Revenge of The Sith 6.5/10 (movie carries over some bad stuff from episode II but has some good moments) Episode IV: A New Hope 7/10 (only thing I did not like was the nonsense about deathstar weakness) Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 8.9/10 (almost perfect really no gripes there) Episode VI: Return of The Jedi 8.5/10 (army of carebears defeating the empire,otherwise great movie) Just mine opinion though. As far as the lightsaber fights go my favourite is still to this day Luke vs. Vader in episode VI there is something about that fight that is so visceral the choreography is actually good (comparing it to Episode IV wich is just sad) and the emotions between Luke and Vader are so strong you can almost grab them how real those emotions are. Every strike and parry carries a meaning and emotion and the music is soo powerful there....not even prequel fights managed to invoke such feelings inside me. I think the problem with prequel fights is that they are obvious choreography and that the strikes don´t carry much weight to them whereas you can feel the weight of each strike in ROTJ fight between Vader and Luke especially when Luke gets pissed and completely annihilates Vader.

The "hoedown" is the BEST moment in any of your videos, IMHO. That was spectacular!

Ok, here's what the prequels are, honestly: A series of films with really good ideas that could have been executed much, MUCH better than they were. Do I think they're good movies? No. Do I watch them from time to time because there's some awesome stuff in there and the bad stuff is fun to laugh at? Yes. Do I appreciate that it added a lot to the Star Wars cannon and essentially doubled the size of the Star Wars expanded universe? Yes. Given all that, it's hard to be too mad at these films. After all, to quote Meatloaf, two outta three ain't bad.

tbh I think Anakin and Padme's relationship being painful and awful in II and III is intentional to some degree. He's been a Jedi for ten years, taught to abandon all his attachments, and he's reintroduced to a girl he likes when he's a moody, emotional teenager. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing and Hayden Christensen sells that.

The novel actually fixes a lot of flaws. Besides the fact there is no terrible acting in a book, some moments have been revisited and revised, like, Qui-Gon & the company visit multiple shops in Mos Espa in search of a generator, and Qui-Gon actually tells Shmi that the money from selling the podracer wasn't nearly enough to buy her off. And surprisingly, Jar-Jar isn't that annoying on paper as he is on screen.

The Reason why you disagree with what Yoda says The Usual Suspect is because you are correct. But here is the thing. The Jedi and the Sith are two extremes of opposite ideals. Jedi worry about fear, the Sith use fear. The answer is in the middle. The Jedi are correct of some things, but so are the Sith, the answers are in the middle in the Grey area, and Grey Jedi are the most correct. But neither the Jedi or the Sith choose to look towards the other side even a little to see the benefit of using both sides. So when you disagree with what Yoda says you're correct, but the Jedi are extreme in that direction just as Sith are in the opposite. So yes the Jedi ARE wrong about some things, because their perspective is so in that direction, just like the Sith ^_^

Fun fact: My dad loves The Phantom Menace because of the scenery and the graphics. However, I like it because of the score and the Darth Maul duel scene.

I actually really like the prequel trilogy. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as the original trilogy, nor is it as good as Force Awakens or Rogue One, but I still find a lot to enjoy in it. I love Ewan McGregor as a young Obi wan Kenobi, Chancellor Palpatine really gets a chance to shine in Revenge of the Sith, the fight between Janga Fett and Obi wan on Kamino is great, as well as the asteroid fight between them in space, the music is all amazing, Darth Maul is awesome, and the fight between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul is epic, as well as the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith

Today I was shot down by the girl I like, so coming home from work to find this in my subscriptions feels absolutely great :)

okay a few things here: 1) The Jedi push tranquility so no shit they would be against relying on some of the strongest emotions (anger and fear). And as we seen, both of those emotions, being the strongest, are the most common among dark side users who get their powers from emotions. 2) Why the hell would they shoot at Darth Maul? The guy had a lightsaber. Anybody in that universe who sees a lightsaber is gonna think "he's probably force trained" and not shoot unless they all want to be dead from the deflected blaster bolts. 3)The movie may have done poorly in ratings but it didn't "flop". A "flop" is a movie that has terrible reviews AND did terribly in the box office. The Phantom Menace broke many a record and made a fuck ton of money. 4) Yoda LITERALLY SAYS it was the COUNCIL who wanted Obi-Wan to train Anakin and that he disagreed with the decision. Yoda isn't the dictator of the Jedi order, if a majority of council members decide on something, Yoda can argue all he want but he cannot stop the council's decision. He DOESN'T want Anakin to be trained but it's out of his hands now. He never changed his mind. They give a very vaild scenario where Yoda disagrees with the council but the council wants Anakin trained "because prophecy". So no, it was not a "because the plot says so" situation. 5) While, yes it's funny that R2 had the most emotion in the scene, the Jedi wouldn't show much emotion anyway. The Old Jedi order promoted tranquility above all else. They don't let sadness take over because they know that their lost friends become one with the Force and mourning openly through large displays of grief is probably frowned upon. I agree with most of the stuff you pointed out. This movie isn't as bad as everyone says it is. However I just felt like the above was nothing but nit-picking/trying to make scenes seem illogical when in fact they are not. P.S. I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT. WHY didn't the senate go to the Jedi!? Holy shit that's hilarious!

Come to think of it, I feel episode III threw away the potential for some emotional leverage. Think of if Obi-Wan had asked Anakin to consider how disappointed Qui-Gon would have been to see him turn to the dark side?

Oh wow, this review is pure gold. Really well done, Suspect! I'd even say this one rivals Mr. Plinkett's review in many ways! I guess it's kind of interesting though, because Episode I was the very first introduction to Star Wars I ever had when I was 5 in 1999. It definitely holds a special place in my heart in that regard, as it does for you too, so that's why I have pretty much the exact same thoughts on the film as you when all is said and done. Really great review, nonetheless! It's the most "balanced" and agreeable one I've seen so far.

I might not consider The Phantom Menace to be a good movie overall, but I do have respect for it. It's the only prequel movie that's remotely close to the original films, thanks to the use of practical sets, the adventure movie plot, and the engaging action sequences. Unfortunately, the movie was weighed down by its characters - none of them really had any personality, let alone character development or extended interactions with each other. With no-one at all to relate to or care about, the movie becomes dull. Which is a shame, because I genuinely believe Episode 1 had the potential to not only be a great movie, but a satisfying new installment to the Star Wars saga.

Here’s an eight option to get of Tatooine. Right after leaving Watto’s shop Qui Gon passes Jedi Knight Quinlin Vos. He could have easily asked him for a lift.
